343 Industries has unveiled its latest Halo: The Master Chief Collection update over the past 24 hours, and it contains a very intriguing tease about a potential "new place and way to play" arriving in the near future.
That's literally all we know about it, as it's teased as part of the next series of flighting tests for the game, set to arrive either later this month or early next month. Here's what the team is hoping to include:
- FOV slider support for all Xbox One consoles
- FOV slider will no longer be locked when Xbox Series S|X devices are set to 120hz
- Additional ways to customize controls
- Additional Keybindings
- Mouse & Keyboard Support for consoles
- View Model Adjustments
- And maybe a new place and way to play
It's anyone's guess at the moment what 343 Industries might be referring to by this, but some have suggested it could be anything from a long-awaited custom game browser to an Epic Games Store version.
Regardless, if you want to be in with a chance at testing some of these new features over the next month-or-so, be sure to sign up the Halo Insider program and/or make sure all your relevant information is up to date.
What do you think this is referring to? Give us your thoughts down in the comments below.

Well. It's definitely not the Switch. Unless it is. But it assuredly isn't.
Epic store. They hinted at starting to bring titles to that store
Switch Pro version confirmed š
Doubt it's Switch, Microsoft went for the Nintendo-like experiences first and there's still 1 major Nintendo-like experience left on XB1, Rare Replay. So I think Rare Replay would come before any other Xbox exclusives.
Gamepass on Switch with this leading the way
Maybe it's VR. This "new way to play" made me think about that.
@eduscxbox same here, I've played a few VR conversions of half-life/doom so it's certainly possible
Is it available to play on android through gamepass with touch controls? If not then that's my guess
@eduscxbox you know VR sounds like it fits the bill.
I reckon it'll be a Halo Launcher put in place for when Halo Infinite launches. As that'll likely have a launcher with it anyway, might as well combine all the Halo games in one launcher.
I'd buy it on Switch in a heartbeat
I'd joke about Halo on PlayStation, but "new way to play" makes it sound more left field anyway. Is mcc currently on xcloud? If not, maybe it's just adding it to xcloud. Native mobile port? Technically it would work. Epic store wouldn't be a "new way to play" but it's lame if it's just adding another (worse) pc marketplace.
@Richnj or would be hysterical if Microsoft gave me more reasons to boot my switch than Nintendo is doing....
X cloud coming to smart TVs...
I'd say Xcloud?
Hopefully not Switch or PlayStation. An 'Xbox VR' with this as the flagship launch title would be cool...
VR version would be fun, and Switch version would be a top seller
@Gamer83 i really, really doubt xbox vr will be a thing. Phil was never keen on wired vr, occulus is being suffocated by Zuck, and Sony's all but declared their exit until someone else finds a way to make it profitable.
Xbox support for pc vr headsets? I could see that being possibly. But an official headset for xbox I'll file that one under "will happen right after Nintendo learns how to internet"
I guess X cloud or Epic store.
I'd love a VR headset for Series X, thought.
But that won't be a thing for this gen, I guess. Not for Microsoft.
It's not cloud/Android as it's already 'cloud compatible'. Epic seeming the most likely to me.
Tablets I guess
@NEStalgia MS Flight Sim has VR for PC, I think. Which means VR for PC for MCC makes good sense.
@mousieone it would fit the series well as certainly. Shame psvr bombed. It was a cool tech that seems like it'll remain super elite expensive niche fare.
@NEStalgia we may get there but the bulk of āconsole gamersā just want to play Madden, FIFA, Fortnite, or COD. You donāt built a gaming PC to play those...
Android, xcloud, touchscreen support, bus stops
@mousieone I still find it depressing that the majority of all these "gamers" buying all these consoles aren't really buying more than a handful of maximally generic games. Makes me half wish I'd stuck with pc back in the day, except the enormous costs were just getting to be too much to keep up with. And back then you had to sit at the desk to play.
