Xbox Boss Explains Her Gamertag Activity, Says 'Faking Would Be A Terrible Idea'

Over the weekend, new Xbox boss Asha Sharma received a ton of attention after sharing her Xbox gamertag on social media, and there was some skepticism about how much gamerscore she'd managed to rack up so quickly.

We highlighted this in a post on Pure Xbox yesterday — she'd been getting full completions (or nearly full completions) in games like Ball x Pit, A Short Hike, Firewatch, Townscaper, What Remains of Edith Finch and others, and that was seemingly all in the space of a month... a tough ask for someone as busy as Asha Sharma has undoubtedly been.

The Head of Xbox decided to formally address this in a response to IGN's Ryan McCaffrey last night, explaining that "the reality is more boring" and that her Xbox gamertag is a shared home account that's being used "across devices". She agrees that "faking would be a terrible idea and wouldn’t work".

The social media link cuts off her reply, so here it is in full:

I agree. Faking would be a terrible idea and wouldn’t work. I also didn't expect my gamertag to blowup and the reality is more boring. I created it recently to learn and understand this world. I’ve played with my family, and it’s a shared home account across devices (which you can see in the range of games /achievements). Fixed that this weekend and everyone is only playing on their own GTs.

But I get where this is coming from. I don’t pretend to be the best gamer and even though I’m playing, that’s still not my goal. My focus is to make Xbox the best place to play, return to our roots, ship great things, and become stronger for the future. And yes, I’m writing my own posts

As you can see, Sharma fully admits that she's not a hardcore gamer and it's not her goal to be one — but simply to enhance the Xbox brand and make it stronger for the future. She's got plenty of people around her who are hardcore gamers, and we're sure she'll been seeking advice from them on a regular basis.

Now that Sharma's family are all using individual Xbox gamertags again, we assume her activity on Xbox will slow down a bit, especially considering how yesterday was only her first day on the job! The new era has officially begun, folks...
