We're now officially less than one month away from the ROG Xbox Ally release date of October 16th, despite Microsoft & Asus still refusing to price the system and open up pre-orders. Well, news coming in from a similar device's release this month in the Lenovo Legion Go 2 perhaps explains why Xbox is still being coy with its full launch plans.
This week, Windows Central is reporting that their Legion Go 2 pre-order date was pushed back more than a month - with their original ship date of September 16th shifting all the way to October 26th, with no proper explanation from Lenovo. Here's how the site describes what's happened:
"What did shock me was how the shipping dates rapidly changed. When I preordered initially, Lenovo had listed the shipping date as today, September 16, 2025. However, that shipping date magically changed to October 24, 2025, over a month from the initial purchase. Lenovo initially set a hold on my payment in my account for the purchase, but has since released the hold, oddly."
The outlet isn't the only place seeing significant delays to their Lenovo Legion Go 2 orders either. Folks in this Reddit thread have had their ship dates pushed all the way back to November - again, with little to no reasoning from manufacturer Lenovo. These things can happen, of course, but the sheer length of the delay right as the device is supposed to launch is concerning.
That concern is bleeding into our thoughts on ROG Xbox Ally here too, especially the high-end X version which is a similar device to the Legion Go 2. Will the upcoming launch be delayed? Will the initial run be extremely limited to avoid issues like this? Honestly, it seems as though anything could happen in the current economic climate - but the fact that we still can't pre-order either ROG Xbox Ally device less than a month before its projected launch isn't filling us with confidence, to be honest.
We suppose we'll just have to keep being patient for now, and ultimately, wait and see what happens per the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally launch. We're sure that not everyone's Legion Go 2 pre-orders are affected, and you never know, maybe these problems have already been accounted for by Microsoft. We're going to need that price and pre-order info soon though, to keep any faith that this device will launch smoothly on October 16th.
