Yeah, I don’t have an issue with it. We’re talking about a few extra demanding games tops over the entire generation that wouldn’t release with identical features at launch if MS were to allow it. The Series S users would be just fine in the end.
I have no problem with the Series S. I think it was a good move overall, especially when paired with Game Pass. That said, the parity at launch needs to go away. Get rid of it and allow games to come out on the X even if the S version needs more time or release both versions and update the S version with additional features later. I mean honestly, how many games from here till the end of the generation are we even talking about here in regards to games getting delayed due to more work being required on the S version? A small handful tops?
Again, have no problem with the S and with what MS was trying to do with it. It’s the parity at release that is the real issue here. Nothing wrong with releasing a few extra demanding games during the entire generation that don’t have parity right off the bat.
Gold in general has been around for close to 22 years and literally changed the face of console gaming. GWG was added on as a perk for no additional charge later on. Having a downturn in the quality of games the last couple years is not failing, not even close. Gold and GWG were still both highly successful, even factoring in the final 2 years. Had you said in your original post that the final 2 years were a failure for GWG, I wouldn’t have said anything. That’s not what you said and you made it seem like the whole program was a failure, thus MS filing it away under failed endeavors. That is objectively false.
And people’s opinions of the games given away with GWG is purely 100% subjective. I agree the games were weak the last couple years, but it’s still 100% subjective opinion. There is nothing objective about it. It doesn’t matter if 99.9% of the people out there agree the games were weak. It’s still 100% subjective opinion.
To suggest Xbox Live Gold failed is pretty comical. It was hugely successful for MS and shaped the future of this industry. Console gaming, in regards to online, is where it is today because of Gold.
Even if you were just referring to Games with Gold, to suggest it was a failure from beginning to end is equally comical. Games with Gold had many great years. It was just the last couple that it really dipped down to where it is now.
Yep, Game Pass all the way. I will eventually buy a physical copy of the game if it’s as good as I am suspecting, but it will be way down the road when there is a complete edition on sale for cheap.
Nope. Easy pass for me. I make very good money, but I am also very smart with my money and make it go as far as I possibly can. I have no problem waiting for the official launch date.
GWG needed to die. This is a much better deal for people that just want Gold and not Game Pass. At least this has some quality games. Sure, those with Game Pass will lose out of the monthly free titles, but the vast majority of people won’t miss them. Most were weak to mediocre at best and who had time to play those games when they had the entire Game Pass library to choose from?
I totally understand this move from MS and support it 100%. I can’t remember the last time I even played a GWG game. I always claim them, but rarely ever play them. They won’t be missed.
Nope. I’ll wait for the official launch date. I have waited this long, another few days isn’t gonna hurt. One of the reasons I have a massive game collection is because I have always been smart with my game purchases and made my money go as far as it can. It’s pretty easy to do when you have a little patience.
Great news indeed. Not unexpected but a long time coming. This will definitely make Xbox more competitive and level the playing field a bit in the console space. Now get to adding ABK’s games to Game Pass. I expect the deal to be finalized before the weekend.
As to all the people worried about a consolidation war that rages out of control., I just don’t see it. Any additional big acquisitions by MS at this point will just be scrutinized that much more and this one alone took a lot of time and work to get through the finish line.
And those thinking because MS just made a couple big acquisitions opens the door for Sony to make some, not necessarily. They could probably get away with Square, but they are still the dominant market leader and any big acquisitions of publishers is going to be extremely hard for Sony to get passed. Many of the arguments the FTC was trying to make against the ABK acquisition would actually become true for a big Sony acquisition. This ruling does not just open the door to any acquisition by any game company. Sony in particular is not in a good position to be adding huge publishers being the dominant market leader. I expect Sony to make some smaller acquisitions or maybe Square and things will cool off for awhile.
It’s still a fun series and I have enjoyed the remakes. It’s just a shame the story itself became so utterly convoluted. Actually, convoluted is a massive understatement.oh well…
Loved the game personally, but I love these kinds of games period. I can’t wait to see what DF is up to next. That’s what I wanna know. One of my favorite studios.
Being your own boss has its perks. I have absolutely rescheduled jobs based on a game releasing. I don’t do it too often, but it’s definitely happened a few times over my career. I’ll be done working for the year by the time Stafield comes out so no need to take off of work. That’s a title I absolutely would have tho had it released in the spring or summer.
Gamer score has been completely flipped on its head. Overall score today can be pretty much meaningless. you have to look at the games one plays. I have a few friends on my friends list that get 8-10k per month by playing cheap games that one can finish in a couple hours that nets them 2-4k gamer score.
Then I have friends that will get 2-3k a month playing games that actually require some time and skill to get a good gamer score and weren’t designed as a quick 4k for 5 bucks.
I’m not really that into achievements or overall gamer score, but I would never cheapen my overall score with those kinds of games. Just passed 165,000 myself but that’s from day one of achievements being created on the 360 so basically 3 generations of games to date.
People can see it as they see fit. Me personally, I view it as early access. You have to pay for it above and beyond your standard Game Pass sub and you get access a few days early. And I am all for that kind of thing offsetting the overall costs of Game Pass. I will never do it but I have no problem with those who do. Early access and day 1 are 2 very different things to me and both are very easy to understand, again at least from my perspective. If people see it differently, they see it differently.
Either way, I have no problem with it. It helps them make a little extra money for big releases and I have no problem waiting till the official launch date.
Only if they order a premium edition, which the VAST majority of people do not. So given that fact, it’s not available to everyone. I am talking about everyone regardless of what edition they buy.
It’s available 5 days prior as a bonus for people ordering premium editions. That will always be early access in my book. The day standard editions are released to the mass public is day 1 for me. Just all depends on how you look at it. For me, there is a difference between a few days early access, which is not available to everyone, and actual day 1, which is available to everyone, and you’re entitled to disagree.
Yeah, I don’t consider people paying extra for early access day 1. Day 1 is when it’s released to the mass public and we still get day 1 releases on Game Pass. People paying $30+ for a few days early access doesn’t change a thing on that front for me and I for one have no problem with it.
When I joined, there was like 250 titles on Game Pass. Now there is like 450ish. On top of that, EA Play was added, much of Bethesda Zenimax’s catalog has been added, if ABK goes through much of that companies catalog will be added. And I have seen a measly 2 dollar increase in that time.
Some are saying it’s not as good of a deal as the number of titles being added each month has gone down, but the total number of titles available has almost doubled. So I gotta disagree on that one. And when MS finally does start firing on all cylinders with first party, it’s gonna improve Game Pass just that much more.
Personally, I have never once thought of cancelling and this slight price increase is utterly irrelevant to me.
Many of the titles added have stayed. The number of titles has gone from like 250 to over 400 plus. So to say it’s not as good of a value is kinda misleading.
Starfield will still be relevant years down the road. Most AAA games are released and forgotten in a few weeks. Literally counting the days to get my hands on this game.
30fps was a purposeful design choice to make the world itself more interactive. For a game like this, I’ll take 30fps with a much more interactive world than 60fps with a static world all day long.
I’ll probably be in the minority on this one, but I’ll take an actual remake of AC IV any day of the week. By far the best of the series imo and I would definitely enjoy playing through it again if it’s a quality remake. I would be all over this game.
This trial was about the FTC getting an injunction to stop the deal. When MS wins, they will be able to close. The FTC can still sue to stop the deal in federal court, but they likely will fold if they lose
I’m gonna go out on a limb and edit his comment for him.
“Thats not true. Xbox consumers DO get a direct return from acquisitions. The studio/publisher games are all added (at very very little additional cost) to Game Pass, how am I not getting something from this?”
There, fixed it. And speaking for myself now:
I get all of EA Play’s games, Bethesda/ZeniMax’s catalog, and now possibly ABK’s catalog. Not to mention all new games from the latter 2 and we have seen a single 2 dollar a month price hike since all those were added. Yeah, I’m good.
Keeping this IP and Conker inactive is hands down one of the single worst decisions MS has made since acquiring Rare. And it blows my mind they continue to do just that. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. If I were made CEO of Xbox today, this would be the very first thing I changed.
MS should win this hands down. They absolutely chewed up the FTC in this trial. All the FTC had is hypotheticals.
And I am well aware of both Kotick and Spencer’s statements about how the deal is dead if this injunction succeeds. I don’t buy that for a second, especially after how easily they slapped down the FTC in this case. If by chance the judge deems the FTC deserves the extra time for the trial before allowing MS to close, I see MS and Activision sticking with the case. They will renegotiate an extension and fight the FTC in federal court. I don’t see either being willing to walk away at this point. Suggesting as such was just pure theatrics in my book. We’ll see…
Sorry, the info on FF VII remake was a long time ago, long long before this trial. It was supposed to be 9 months to a year exclusivity for PS. Then it turned into longer and now it’s likely never being released on Xbox. That’s due to Sony making it so. So sorry, wasn’t referencing the court case.
That said, since you brought up the court case, NOT A CHANCE in hell Phil says those things under oath and lies about it. Due to discovery for this case, MS was granted access to a crap ton of Sony documents that Sony fought tooth and nail to keep secret but were forced to turn over by the ruling of the FTC. Included in those papers were all deals made with 3rd party developers and publishers over the last like 5+ years and it was after those papers were turned over that Phil stated that Sony pays to keep games off of Xbox. If it were untrue, you can bet your ass Jim Ryan would have refuted it. He didn’t. And we can’t verify what’s in those papers since they are still secret corporate info that only MS and its lawyers could see. Anyone with any common sense knows it’s true. Again, Jim Ryan’s utter silence on the matter is all the proof anyone needs as well as the timing of Phil staying as such, just after getting all of the info on Sonys 3rd party dealings.
If you want to think otherwise, all the power to ya. Me personally, given the circumstances around it, I would bet my life it’s true. And just as I can’t provide the proof to back up such claims, you can’t provide proof that refutes them.
Sorry brother. I don’t do others work for them, not without being paid. It’s called the internet, use it. It’s common knowledge FF VII remake was gonna be a timed exclusive, right up until Sony stepped in.
This is meaningless. Even if MS were acting on that quote right now, there is absolutely nothing illegal in saying such a thing or actually trying to make it a reality. It only becomes an issue if/when MS gets to the point with such a strategy that any additional moves would start to threaten competition in the market or start to encroach on anti-trust laws and they have not done so yet and will have not done so even after ABK goes through.
People might look a bit down on Booty for saying it, but it should have no relevance in this case given MS’s overall position in the market.
This game was a solid 7 for me. It wasn’t great, but I enjoyed it well enough. Writing was weak, but the world itself was really well done. Shooting mechanics could have definitely been better, but again I found it enjoyable enough. I don’t regret my time spent with it and if the DLC is ever on sale for a really good deal, I’ll jump back in.
I will say it’s a shame they didn’t give this game another 6-9 months in development. With a bit more polish on the combat, it could have been a lot better. Not sure anything could have saved the story tho.
A more static world one can’t interact with at 60fps or a much more realistic world at 30fps?? Yeah, for a game like this I’ll take 30fps all day long.
As for my hype level, it’s impossible to be any higher. I remember when salty Sony fanboys started calling it Fallout in space, as if that was some sort of diss or negative in regards to the game. Hearing that made me want it even more, lol. Love Bethesda RPG’s and I have no doubt this will live up to expectations. I honestly can’t wait.
It’s not that easy. It’s not just about what you’re willing to pay, it’s also about overall sales on the console you’re going to be exclusive too. Given Sony is way ahead of MS in hardware, a game has the potential to sell far more on PS. MS would have to outbid Sony by SIGNIFICANT margins for many games. If all you care about is losing money, sure do it. If you actually want to be profitable, it’s not that simple.
Who cares about regulators at that point?? I don’t know, any tech companies that have a brain cell between their heads in a time when regulators are cracking down on big tech mergers. It would be utterly beyond idiotic for MS to piss off regulators at this point. I mean utterly beyond moronic. The FTC by law has to review any merger over 111.4 million so MS could easily see themselves back up in front of them soon enough. Same with the CMA, but I can’t remember what their threshold is value wise. Around 100 million.
And I am not acting like I am the sole person who understands what is going on here, but clearly there are some in here taking MS’s words at face value right now. That’s kinda funny.
Yeah, this has been a long drawn out battle with both sides doing things they probably wish they hadn’t. It is what it is. Thankfully we are approaching the finish line. We can either start enjoying ABK games on Game Pass or MS can move onto another big acquisition as you can be assured if this falls through, they will have something else in mind. I think everyone, both those for and against the deal, are just ready for it to be over one way or another.
This acquisition is a big deal. MS wants into the mobile market and it wants these games on Game Pass. It has already sucked up a lot of time and effort and they could lose 3 billion just for it not going through. This is a very big deal for MS so as I said up above, I would actually lose respect in them if they didn’t pull out all the big guns to win it, even if some of them actually make Xbox look a bit weaker in the short term.
You know what fixes all that and this minimal price hike for Game Pass? Getting Diablo IV and all of ABK’s other games dropped on Game Pass. That will go a very long ways in fixing everything. A couple months from now, that’s all people will remember. Of course, if they lose…well, let’s just hope they have a back up plan in that instance.
Just need to understand why they’re doing it. I get your argument that many casual gamers won’t get it, but you clearly do. It’s all coming to a head. This thing will be over one way or another very soon. And I can promise you that you won’t be hearing this kind of stuff once this is over.

If you want to think otherwise, all the power to ya. Me personally, given the circumstances around it, I would bet my life it’s true. And just as I can’t provide the proof to back up such claims, you can’t provide proof that refutes them.
Re: PlayStation Boss: I Don't Like Xbox's Starfield Exclusivity, But It's Not 'Anti-Competitive'
@Suda52
Sorry brother. I don’t do others work for them, not without being paid. It’s called the internet, use it. It’s common knowledge FF VII remake was gonna be a timed exclusive, right up until Sony stepped in.

@Suda52
Final Fantasy VII remake says hi.
Re: PlayStation Boss: I Don't Like Xbox's Starfield Exclusivity, But It's Not 'Anti-Competitive'
Duh, if he did he would be the biggest hypocrite ever. Of course he doesn’t have a problem with exclusivity.
Re: AMD Announces 'Exclusive' Starfield Partnership That Will Benefit Players On Xbox & PC
I plan to play this on console. Just too long of a game for me to enjoy it on my PC. 2 months and counting…
Re: Microsoft Responds To Old Xbox Comment About 'Spending Sony Out Of Business'
Re: Xbox Game Pass Title Atomic Heart Gets Its First 'Explosive' DLC This August
Re: Video: 33 Things You Should Know About Starfield Ahead Of Launch
@JaffeGaffe
Re: Report: Xbox's Perfect Dark Won't Release Until 2025+ Due To Years Of Development Struggles
I should be finishing up with Starfield right around then…
Re: Planet Of Lana Dev: It's Been 'Surreal' To See The Success On Xbox & PC
Great game. Reminded me of Limbo a bit. Finished it in basically a single sitting. look forward to the next game from them.
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@Belkan
It’s not lame if it helps them win this case
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@NeutronBomb
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@Bleachedsmiles
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@Utena-mobile
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@Utena-mobile
Re: Microsoft Is Literally Now Saying That Xbox Has 'Lost The Console Wars'
@Utena-mobille
Just need to understand why they’re doing it. I get your argument that many casual gamers won’t get it, but you clearly do. It’s all coming to a head. This thing will be over one way or another very soon. And I can promise you that you won’t be hearing this kind of stuff once this is over.
