My kids have had absolutely no problem understanding the different console names for Xbox the last 2 generations running. Like zero. They knew the differences even before I did. Kids are smart as F*** when it comes to this stuff, way ahead of where we were at their age back in the day.
I’ll admit they arent the greatest names, but actually being confused by them?? Not even a little. Then again, with the average IQ and common sense that I see on a daily basis, it’s not surprising that some people would.
How quickly people forget the facts around the FTC case. Protecting the consumer my a**. Lina Khan has had a deep hatred for big corporations and especially big tech from the beginning. It’s why Biden appointed her. He instructed the FTC to fight against more mergers, even if they had little to no chance at winning.
The FTC’s case was an absolute joke. It was mostly tied to Sony and had little to nothing to do with protecting the consumer. Anyone thinking otherwise either hasn’t been paying attention or are living in la la land.
I have no issue with any of it. Game subscription services are relatively new. Adjustments will be made based on the market and the overall success of such services. To not expect such services to be fluid and change over time, as needed…well, it’s about as unrealistic a stance as one could possibly have. It’s utterly ridiculous to think a service has to remain a certain way forever because it was that way initially. That’s not how the real world works and what we have seen with tv/movie sub services and the changes that have taken place on that side of the market proves that unequivocally.
This will likely make Game Pass more successful and more competitive over the long haul. That makes it a very good thing in my book. I have been saying for awhile that they need to adjust the day 1 situation. And since I rarely ever play games day 1, even if they come to Game Pass day 1, I for one am totally fine with it.
This is gonna be huge. Might not be for a few years still, but eventually the internet speeds will be at a point where games will play just fine over tech like this. This isn’t a now move, it’s a move that will pay off significantly down the line.
And this is actually great for me. I travel a ton for work and usually stay in Airb&b’s that have decent enough TV’s. Can just plug this sucker in and game away. Now just give me my Xbox handheld and all my bases will be covered.
They might not make a ton of money on each individual game released, but they are still making plenty of money. The additional amount they are making off of Bethesda and Activision alone is significant.
I’m totally ok with this as I knew it would come eventually. Always does. I own everything related to Horizon 4 so I’m all good. A tip of the hat to MS for giving people tokens for the base game if they purchased DLC. If you’re gonna delist, which is inevitable with these kinds of games, this is the way to do it.
What sticks out for me is quick resume and Game Pass. Game Pass has just gotten better and better and better with each passing year and quick resume is hands down one of the single best features for a game console ever, at least for me. I am usually bouncing around between a bunch of different games depending on my mood and quick resume changed everything for me. I couldn’t imagine going back to gaming on my Xbox without either of those.
As for games, Vampire Survivors would be at the top of the list. My most played game last year and I still play it quite often. Forza Horizon 5 is another standout. And I loved Starfield. And a ton of amazing 3rd party games as well including Elden Ring and Alan Wake 2.
That’s what you get when you release games on Game Pass day 1 and decide not to market it at all. The people that were excited for it likely played it on Game Pass and those that weren’t likely didn’t even know about it.
Oh well… I loved it and look forward to playing it through a 2nd time at some point. And this will definitely get some press at this years game awards. That should help to sell some copies and it will have come down in price by then as well.
I absolutely love remasters and remakes. Allows me to play some of my favorite games of all time again, in updated form. That said, there are limits to what should be done on this front and going beyond those limits starts to reek of cash grabs and wasted resources. Naughty Dog and Last of Us immediately comes to mind. I love the Dead Rising series, but this remaster is just not needed imo.
“People are not complaining about car brands not being realistic in GTA 5... you know, one of the best selling games of all time.”
Of course not because it’s not a racing game. If you don’t think this would have a big effect on a game like Forza Horizon, you’re kidding yourself. There are a TON of gamers who would be turned off from Forza if it didn’t have licensed cars, myself being one of them.
Horizon 4 was better in some ways, Horizon 5 is better in others. Played the hell out of both of them and I have my sights set on Horizon 6 at this point.
I do love mods and it’s gonna be a long long road for Starfield in this regard. One of my favorite things about Bethesda games. I’ll still be playing Starfield off and on for years to come.
I get more and more exited for this game this more I learn about it. And Im thankful it’s gonna be shorter like Outer Worlds. I didn’t even attempt to play Assassins Creed Valhalla over its bloated length. I’ll take these kinds of games over bloated open world games any day of the week.
Goes beyond that. They also did films like District 9. Have their 3 replica weapons for that movie hanging on my wall in my darkroom. Hands down some of the most talented people in the business, especially for props.
Damn, you have missed some downright amazing game content. There is no denying that a lot of DLC is downright mediocre and should have been included in the original game, but there have been a lot of amazing expansions as well that significantly increased the overall quality of the game itself.
I would love to see more Fallout games, but I am also looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls so I would be ok with Bethesda working on either one of those first. It just so happens to be Elder Scrolls, which again I am fine with. Fallout 76 is actually fantastic now so that will keep me busy for awhile in the Fallout Universe.
Loving that this game is seeing large expansions. I loved the game even before they fixed a lot of the problems. I’ll definitely be diving back in each and every time they drop some decent DLC for this game.
In all fairness, everyone knows they are working on the next Elder Scrolls before the next Fallout, so doing a teaser for a Fallout game that is likely 6-8+ years away doesn’t make a lot of sense. Given they are likely making plans with Fallout beyond that given its massive surge in popularity, but that just came about recently and was not the case when they acquired Bethesda. And they advertised Starfield and its exclusivity quite a bit after the Bethesda acquisition.
And they dropped Diablo IV, which was arguably the biggest game they could have dropped from ABK at that time, relatively quickly on Game Pass. So it’s not like they didn’t capitalize at all.
I agree they could have done more, but it’s not like they did nothing at all.
Yeah, just not buying that these will come with a price hike. They give us the new Call of Duty with no price hike, yet they are gonna hike the price for older catalog games that don’t even make a lot of money anymore?? That makes absolutely zero sense to me. If there was gonna be a price hike in the near future, it would have come on the heels of the new COD, not on the heels of old COD games along with Spyro, Crash and Tony Hawk.
What’s great about this, at least for me, is I want to play many of the games in ABK’s catalog including the Crash trilogy and Spyro trilogy, but never bad enough to actually buy them. I have been tempted during a few sales, but never pulled the trigger. This will allow me to jump in and play them as I see fit without having to spend any additional money.
And my backlog is massive so MS taking its time adding ABK’s catalog hasn’t bothered me one bit. Diablo IV was the big one I was looking forward to and that already dropped.
Game Pass, it really does just get better and better over time.
I don’t think the fact that the trailer didn’t have gameplay is really that relevant to its release date. Clearly they wanted to do a trailer that brought back feelings from the Mad World trailer for the original game. So I can see them excluding game play even if there was some that they could have shown.
There is plenty of time for them to show gameplay in future trailers. I think they had a very specific idea on the E-day trailer and showing gameplay would have taken away from the nostalgic feel of the original Mad World trailer. Thus I don’t feel like a lack of gameplay in this trailer is necessarily a good indicator of how far along they are development wise.
I like the character design. Feels more realistic than most of the female designs we get out of gaming. As for the game itself, it looked amazing. I’m a huge fan of Mirrors Edge and you can see the influence that series has had on it. My interest in this game went from mildly excited to I literally can’t wait in just the couple minutes that trailer played.
There are times for character creation and times when I prefer a set character. Bethesda games, in particular Elder Scrolls, it’s a must. Games like Fable, I am perfectly fine with just picking a sex for the character.
It was the game I was most impressed with. Tho it didn’t show a ton of gameplay, what was shown looked phenomenal. I was excited for Fable, but after that show, it catapulted to my top 3 most anticipated. Literally can’t wait.

That said, it’s better they held off on some and did the show as they did. It would have been too much for one show if they added anything more. That show was a resounded success and it’s good to know they have many more games to present in future shows that won’t be a retread of this one.
Great news. It’s how these games should be. I didn’t mind Gears 5 and it’s more open world, but it’s just wasn’t as impactful as games of old. Get back to what made this series great and it looks like it’s exactly what they are doing.

No, it doesn’t. It needs to see a ROI for its 70 billion dollar investment, but it doesn’t need to actually recover the 70 billion. It’s not a debt. It blows my mind that even writers for sites like this don’t understand that.
Still in utter awe at the overall quality of that showcase. Absolutely blew me away and again, I was expecting a great show so it’s not like I went in with low expectations. Just a brilliant showcase all the way around.
And Phil all but confirming the exact kind of handheld I would want to see Xbox release. It’s funny how fast the momentum can shift in this industry. Xbox needed a big show and they delivered in spades.
