@themightyant Rock & a hard place for them. Lots of people still like those mechanics and will get rrr's if they're gone.

@Grumblevolcano The reason isnt important though - just the end result. Sony are gambling that their loyalist will all enjoy a few new live services, instead of their traditional diet of SP games. Look at their financials, budgetary emphasis is shifting over there, away from SP.
They'll be alright this gen, is my prediction, and remain market leader. If they haven't got back to SP by the time ps6 comes around, they may struggle with that launch.

@TakeItEasy It's ironic that Sony is pivoting away from single player, just as Xbox look set to go all in. Live services & single player games - I know which one I'd rather play.

Nothing in the article surprised me in the least. I just hope this can be a lesson for the Xbox team going forward. If they learn from it, it may turn out to be a positive further down the road.

If saddos want to spend their own money on easy achievement dross games, msft should just let them. Ok so some people have massive gamerscores. And? A quick look at their achievement lists will expose them. If anyone could be bothered to care enough that is.

I voted Phantom pain. Nearly voted MGS 1, but the THAT Fulton system. Never tired of tranqing stuff and watching it zip of into the air.

Just came to moan about GZ & Phantom pain not supporting 4k. Playstation has it, of course.

Another game, like Redfall, that should never been allowed to reach the hands of the public.

Tried it and wasn't impressed sadly. Very disappointed, because I was really willing it to be good.
Felt cheap to me. Like a Focus interactive published game (plague tale exempt). Characters are stiff and poorly animated. Even my wife (not a gamer) said she felt the game looked like throwback to when we had a ps3. Not in looks, but by how the game was presented. Even the voice acting sounded off.
Play this next to RE Village prologue and the comparison is not kind.
I have to applaud them for giving us this taster, but I question the financial sense of doing so. I think it will lose them more sake than it gains.

One of my all time favourite games - narrative wise at least.
Such a shame I won't be buying the sequel though. Digital only is a d*** move too great to ignore. (Especially after control ult edition & the guff surrounding that on release.)

My ps5 and 1 years plus extra arrives Thursday, so I'll be playing before that. But its typical for me. Been a game of wanted a long time on Xbox - the moment I get a ps5 - it's coming to xbox!

@BobCoffee A smaller project like Pentament would be ideal. Something they can release perfect but wont take them six years but will restore confidence in both themselves and their output.

The decision to appeal is crazy imo. It's been made clear that (where it counts) worldwide, and against all logic & rationale, that government bodies dont want this deal to complete.
Microsoft would be far wiser, at this point, to pay Activision the penalty fee and get out of the deal.
There are far easier ways to success than a massive acquisition on such a scale that it sends shockwaves in all the wrong directions.
Want a foot in the door for mobile? Aquire just King.
Console/cloud business? Aquire smaller equities - I.O, Remedy, CDPR?
Pump money into exclusivity deals - like Sony does. If it comes down to bidding, xbox should never lose a single title to their rivals platform.

Of course - again, imo - none of that happens with current Xbox/Microsoft leadership. They're tech hippies, they dont want exclusives blah blah blah.
1st party development. Perhaps the most visible of failings at Redmond. Where do you begin?
Well, start by replacing Matt Booty. I'm sure hes a great guy but as leader of Ms gaming studios, hes fumbled that ball completely. I'd like to see somebody of Shawn Layden's ilk come in and shake that area up.
Bethesda. Too much autonomy. Hands off is great, but that hasn't really worked out. The constant delays etc. Woeful ports of superior PS titles is embarrassing & the Redfall debacle is pitiful. They need bringing under direct Xbox control.
Gamepass. This is not rocket science. The roadmap is easy.
1 big AAA game in the service per month minimum (1st party if at all possible). 1st on ALL the big indy titles. In addition I'd be at every publishers door with a bag of cash for those titles that have had underperforming launches - send them the proverbial lifeboat and get them into the service. Every month it seems like theres one big publisher or another complaining about their launch sales. Take advantage of that.

Phil Spencer. Love the guy. Really cares about gamers - all gamers. And that's why sadly he needs to go. I cant stand Jim Ryan, but Playstation thrives beneath his leadership because the man is bloomin ruthless and willing to do whatever it takes. Sometimes that's paying publishers under the table to keep certain games out of Gamepass (resi village & the like). Other times, its crying publicly to the CMA like a big baby, to the extent that hes ridiculed in the press & online. But whos laughing now?

Back to the drawing board please Microsoft. (Yes I'm always available).

@Sebatrox I've had this conversation lots and I always say - if you're fine playing at 30 fps then good for you. I am a little jealous even. But.... this game is intended to be 60 fps (it was even part of the marketing build up & a listed feature until recently on the store). The game isnt finished. That's not good. No getting around that.
And 30 is just horrible for so many of us in 2023.

Nope. Had enough of hearing about the game now. Left a bad taste in the mouth. I think it's clear evidence Microsoft have lost the plot, they're now releasing unfinished games.

I don't believe the rumours; but if they are true, there's a simple fix: wait six months and release the game for switch.

I decided I didnt need a ps5 this gen. Sonys ever growing greed turns my stomach.
But I've been rethinking that. Sony are still sickening, but Im bored waiting for Microsoft to deliver the Series X promise. Seems like the console to own if you like hype by the bucket load and L after L after L.
I swear if Starfield is 30 fps I'm gonna ditch the console and just stream it instead.

You can see why they are hesitant to delay Redfall. The line up is really light without it.

It would have been a two year delay if I were in charge.

It's Friday morning as I write this, I like to imagine Yve is pacing his Ubisoft penthouse pondering: "Why do Xbox customers not want our fairly priced catalogue of absolute bangers? Get me Phil Spencer

The cost of taxes should be paid as an assumed part of the prize imo.
