Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think Of Redfall So Far?

LordFunkalot

It had great potential and some really cool ideas and style. It feels rushed and unfinished with no major game breaking bugs but several minor ones and the core themes don’t feel fully developed. They should have delayed it, it could have been amazing. As it stands there is fun to be had and I’m enjoying it.

For a game pass game game 6/10

For a £70 retail release 4/10. I agree with the above comments that this is possibly the worst £70 game ever made. Not a good look for one of the first few games sporting the £70 price tag.

Personally I like the game for what it is and I am having fun with it hunting the achievements.

If they patch it and finish it ironing out the many bugs it could be a good game. As it stands it’s ok.

If you know what you’re getting into and your expectations suitably set - there is fun here, you just have to look past the various issues.

In the long term Xbox need tighter quality control or they will fade into obscurity, get left behind and ultimately become like Sega.

Phil Spencer needs some of the Original 2001 Xbox fighting spirit. Back then they came out swinging, edgy and were pushing it to the max. Xbox was experimental with quality through and through, not afraid to take on the competition. The newcomer standing up to giants.

Now they are like a fat corporate old man, laying on the sofa, the fights all gone. What’s happened?

Xbox need to turn it around and start putting out quality games again. They need hit after hit. Come on Phil wake up, now is the time to start fighting.

Totally went off topic but we need strong competition for great games.

Redfall is not a great game it’s sadly average and buggy. Fun in places, not what Xbox needed or deserved.

Re: Review: Redfall - Arkane's Undead Experiment Brings Mixed Results To Xbox Game Pass

LordFunkalot

@DKGXX85 It really could have been amazing or GOTY with more time in the oven, but as it stands it’s a solid 6, there’s nothing wrong with games like that.

I think as long as you know what you’re walking into there’s still lots of fun to be had.

I’m not defending the bugs but I really think the masses are overly critical towards Redfall. It’s an ok fun game. It’s not terrible or worst game of the year etc.

Other games have been buggy or had game breaking bugs that the masses have lapped up. Like Pokémon scarlet/violet, Jedi Survivor doesn’t even boot up for many PC players. . .

Re: Review: Redfall - Arkane's Undead Experiment Brings Mixed Results To Xbox Game Pass

LordFunkalot

@PsBoxSwitchOwner I agree where’s the quality control?!?!

I’m enjoying it for what it is (see my previous) but it’s clearly not the game we wanted or deserved. Not the game Xbox needed.

Re the bugs they are not game breaking but seriously they show what a sad state of affairs things are in. For example in the fire house I saw a square stool map itself in and become round in front of me, pixilated blood on the floor map in to blood streaks, pixilated writing on signs and mop buckets - but it’s just pixelated and doesn’t bump in.

It’s the pre release build we are playing

It’s ok and fun to play but it’s not finished, they should have delayed it.

Regardless I’ve just finished RE4 remake, this is a massive drop in quality but it’s fine to play through, like a blockbuster rental. It’ll keep me busy until Street Fighter 6 or Jedi Survivor (when they suitably patch it…lol, oh the irony).

Re: Review: Redfall - Arkane's Undead Experiment Brings Mixed Results To Xbox Game Pass

LordFunkalot

@DKGXX85 I’m enjoying it too mate, personally I think it’s a bit buggy (mainly textures and graphics) - not broken and there have been much worse offenders of late - it’s a bit average and with a bit of polish it could be amazing. As it stands it’s fun and an ok game. Fine game pass game. After it’s been patched up, if the bugs get ironed out and it’s at the right price I would maybe buy it. Feels just a bit unfinished. Like I say I am enjoying it, love the world and setting. It’s always nice to have a new IP and something different too

Re: Review: Redfall - Arkane's Undead Experiment Brings Mixed Results To Xbox Game Pass

LordFunkalot

I agree this game is a 6 out of 10 and this is being generous. Totally average game at best, has flashes of inspiration, good story, buggy and feels very rough. Low production feel with the slides.

I’ll play through it as it’s on Game Pass but I’d be gutted if I paid for it. Saying that I’m enjoying it for what it is, exploring the environments and I really like the vampire thing, characters and enemies, however graphics are terrible in places and it looks like a generation or 2 behind. They really screwed the pooch with this one!

I feel this game is only the small tip of the problem iceberg currently floating towards good ship xbox;

  • Xbox needed a win badly and this loss goes towards undermining their brand, what’s the next game, when and will it suck too?
  • Sony make mistakes however they bounce back quickly with wins. Xbox needs a big win and then another and another
  • There is now brand damage with Xbox, confidence in them are slipping.
  • Questions are now common palace about xbox games quality, performance and them being rushed out

Xbox need to get their game together and do it hard and fast, otherwise they’ll end up like Sega, disappearing from the console market all together.

I love xbox and all the console, I xbox to be as strong as possible and a real player.

When I think back about Microsoft and their fighting edge, confidence and swagger back in 2001 coming out the gate fighting, pumping out regular cutting edge high quality games and frequent hits every few months. They used to have the Rock promoting it, they had demo pods in pubs and nightclubs and edgy in your face advertising everywhere.

Over the years they’ve given us Halo, Gears of war, Forza, Fable, pushed and moulded call of duty and many other games into what they are today. They radicalised and set the template for online console gaming.

What has happened?

Re: Xbox Fans Call On Bethesda To Delay Redfall Until 60FPS Is Ready

LordFunkalot

@Bleachedsmiles Yea - entitlement for the expectation of 60fps at launch or false advertising on the part of the company for making players expect 60fps. I suppose you could see it from both perspectives. It’s a shame tho that it’s been advertised as 60fps and running at that on the released footage.

I’m just worried if the performance options aren’t fully in place that it raises the question - is it being rushed out, is it going to be mediocre on release as a result.

Doesn’t help its launch is sandwiched between Jedi survivor and Zelda TOTK, two potential GOTY contenders. Redfall is also in danger of slipping into obscurity because of this.

Many previews said Redfall was a possible GOTY, others have said it was mediocre at best.

Only time will tell I suppose, even though I think they should delay it until it’s ready, I can’t wait for it to release and will be downloading it the day it drops, 2nd May or otherwise.

Re: Redfall Will Only Run At 30FPS When It Launches On Xbox Series X And S

LordFunkalot

Back in my day they released games when they were good and ready (angry fist wave) lol. Seriously tho this sucks, I was really excited for this at the start of the year, digging the stranger things vibe etc but first the ’it’s co-op but you can totally play it single player’ to ‘only the host gets the progression when you play online’ then ‘ it requires a constant online connection’ to know this - 30fps only at launch. The edge on my blade of excitement has somewhat been severely blunted.
I was holding off on getting RE4 remake because I really wanted to wait and play redfall but I’ve pulled the trigger on RE4 today. I’ll play Redfall at some point but I’m just not that excited for it anymore 😕

Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Halo Game?

LordFunkalot

@TJ81 Definitely, can’t agree with you more.

I enjoy all systems equally and think they can all survive together. They all bring something to the table. I love games pass and the Xbox and retro back catalogs (best on Xbox IMO). Still can’t help feel Xbox is lagging a bit, but there are lots of interesting games on the way.

I think it’s great they are still supporting Halo Infinite and still dip in from time to time. I’ll always have a soft spot for the franchise.

Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Halo Game?

LordFunkalot

@TJ81 yes mate, I definitely agree, the gameplay is tight and still fun. I’ve put over 3 days into infinite and am sitting at 75 percent achievement completion. I personally enjoyed it but it just pales in comparison to what it was like compared to the time of the original trilogy.

I think it’s just lost its way a little and it’s not the system seller or pulling in the attention it used to as a result. I really hope the series continues and I’ll always keep playing, but it’s not going to pull people over to Xbox like it used to.

They need a new killer app to replace halo and gears. I’m really hoping Redfall and Startfield could do it.

Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Halo Game?

LordFunkalot

Halo, what have they done to you. Such a shame. Went from being an amazing game/franchise, a real system seller to just an ok fun game. Don’t know how they can turn it around now. Not hating on Halo but IMO it’s nowhere close to being as good as it once was. A cultural phenomenon on release and synonymous with the Xbox brand to what it is now. They now need a new crown jewel franchise, I think it’s sadly now time to move on from Halo.

Re: Soapbox: I Hope Forza Horizon 6 Goes In A Different Direction For The Series

LordFunkalot

I quite like the race against jet ski show event in FH5. With the next entry I think they should slow it down to 1 entry per console generation and have a massive open world built like the current one with like 3/5 different biomes (covering city like Tokyo, countryside like uk, tropical like South America etc). And then the expanded stuff could slowly come like off road 4x4 bikes, snowmobiles, jet skis and small stunt planes. Where you race against the cars as part of the horizon festival.

Re: Redfall Physical Release Will Contain A Disc After All, Bethesda Updates FAQ Page

LordFunkalot

@Green-Bandit - very true, physical is not superior or better. In the ideal world both would coexist. Like physical media, digital media is also important and has its place. Digital is brilliant for access of games, like when all the physical copies are sold out or go up in price, for reissue retro games, personally I always prefer the ease of a digital download onto the more modern system.

I think the problem with it that rubs gamers up the wrong way is they are removing the choice of physical or digital and making it digital by default.

Re: Redfall Physical Release Won't Contain A Disc, Download Code Included Instead

LordFunkalot

That’s fantastic news, we need to get rid of physical games all together, everyone knows they’re outdated and a relic of the past. Who wants a nice box and disk to own when you can just have a digital line of code. It’s never your game. It’s great because you can never lend your game to your friends, trade or sell it like we did when we were kids. You just lease it for one off payment of £70 or an ongoing £10 per month. When the servers go down the game is gone forever and you can find the next one to play, never ever going back to replay the old game. What an exciting future ahead for our hobby. Ive no doubt it will make it easier for kids and new players to get into gaming and will certainly help our past time flourish for many more years to come…

Re: Redfall Requires 'Persistent' Online Connection Even In Single-Player

LordFunkalot

@BBB I get what you’re saying, you could always play something else and it’s not the end of the world. But in my opinion and lots of others it seems well kinda unnecessary. If you’re really into a game and want to play it you should be able to whenever you want. With GT7 the servers were down for several days, not just a few hours, I know that’s extremely unlikely with Redfall but you never know. I think the thing that gets most people is like why even make it a thing in the first place. Why is it necessary to be online for the single player. Many many games don’t do this and I think for a big party AAA, £70 at retail exclusive it sucks.
