@DennisReynolds I don't think they can really include Diablo IV as an Xbox Game Studios title but it's the right thing for Phil to commend the studio for their work on the game.
That being said, there is a fairly common narrative, in certain circles, that Xbox is somehow to blame for Modern Warfare 3 being crap this year so I guess it should work both ways. I expect the people floating that narrative to move the goal posts and be the absolute hypocrites that they are though.
I can't believe Spider-man 2 made the list. Whilst I did enjoy it, it was the buggiest game I played this year and I got the Platinum trophy in about a week, with just a moderate amount of play each day. One and done indeed. Certainly not a GOTY contender, in my opinion, and certainly wasn't worth the £80 I paid for the deluxe edition.
@rustyduck No, that has never been Phil's mission. Microsoft were all but ready to throw in the towel and get out of the console sector after Don Mattrick nearly killed the Xbox with his idiocy. It was Phil that convinced them otherwise, it's taken him a decade so far to right the ship and he's almost there. So to say it's been his mission to get out of the console business from the start is an absolutely absurd statement.
This is a disgusting anti-consumer move by Xbox. I personally don't use any third party accessories but having the option removed for ones that haven't been specifically approved by Xbox/Microsoft is not a good thing.
@Dan1283 In your opinion. Just because you think the game is awful doesn't mean other people cannot have the opposite view. Whether a game is good or not is largely subjective.
I've always thought the memory was the biggest issue with the Series S. When the specs were originally unveiled for the Series consoles, the small amount of memory they gave the S compared to the X boggled my mind. I just didn't get it. It could've done with another couple of gigabytes, at the very least. That being said, my Series S is in the back room as a backup console, just in case something goes wrong with my X. It's still a great wee console for the price though.
Lock picking confused the crap out of me early on. However, once I figured it out, it was brilliant.
Ranking up your security skill is definitely key, as when you get the blue highlights to show which layer a key is compatible with makes it a bit easier.
Use auto key for more difficult locks to give you an edge but, when you're at a higher security level, don't frivolously spend picks to dispose of unneeded keys, unless the puzzle is really pickling your brain.
@Kienda From what I understand, the game is primarily CPU-bound not GPU-bound, therefore lowering graphical fidelity will result in only minimal increases in performance and even then, only in areas where the GPU is being taxed. I'm no expert though and I'm only going by what I've watched and read online. I'd still appreciate it if they offered a 40fps or VRR mode though as those would surely make a bit of difference to those of us with compatible screens.
Another patch before launch won't be an issue for me. Thankfully my broadband speed is lightning fast. I can obviously understand why it would be frustrating for those with crappy internet though.
@InterceptorAlpha It's clearly some kind of synthetic polymer but it's certainly not cloth. The feet are there as a safeguard just to prevent it slipping down and cutting off the air intake but the inside of the wrap is a textured silicone from what I saw and it should therefore cling on fairly well if it's fastened correctly and snugly. Time will tell though.
@Aimergamer I think you mean "some" or "a few" developers. Many more clearly have had no significant issues at all, which is evidenced by the fact they are actually releasing games that run fine on the Series S with feature parity. You can't just use the narrative from a few devs to try to prove a point and assume that all other devs agree just because they haven't said anything at all.
That being said, I think the biggest mistake they made with the S is too little RAM.
@Kaloudz It got a luke warm reception from me. It should never have been made as a PG movie and I didn't like the suit design either. I do like Joel Kinnaman though and thought he played the role well.
Looks a bit janky and the acting is ropey, both of which I could deal with but, the gameplay just looks incredibly boring. I hope I'm wrong as I'm a massive Robocop fan and a decent modern game is long overdue.
I'll pass. The analogue stick layout is a total fail, as far as I'm concerned. This is the very reason I chose Xbox as my primary platform and I only really use my PS5 to play exclusives; I find the stick layout feels unnatural and, most importantly, uncomfortable during extended play sessions.
@K1LLEGAL Yes, it is available in the UK. I clicked on the link and it took me to the UK store and I purchased the Starfield one for £44.99.
Edit: Just checked and it would appear they're now sold out as it says they're out of stock. I wonder if the scalpers scooped up many of them 🤔. Hopefully they'll become available again.
@ZuneTattooGuy BaldBelper78's take is not only narrow minded, he's selective in the metrics he refers to, either through ignorance of the full business model Xbox now operate or through bad faith, I'm not sure which.
I can't see 10 days making much difference, personally. I'd imagine those that were gonna buy it day one would do so regardless. Personally, I'll be waiting to buy it further down the line as I'm sure I'll still be deep in the Starfield universe.
@Kaloudz The first time I've found myself disagreeing with you, buddy. The Walking Dead is still a massive IP that's ripe for an awesome video game adaptation. That being said, despite the potential of the franchise, I'm absolutely certain this game is not the aforementioned awesome adaptation that I want or expect.
@rustyduck They absolutely should implement a performance mode as an option for those that would like to try it, IF it is even possible on current console hardware. However, there are plenty of games that have 60fps and 120fps options on Xbox. Much the sane as PlayStation, when developers implement higher frame rates, something else has to be cut back. Whilst this probably isn't too challenging to do with most games, I suspect it's a far more difficult thing to do with Starfield due to it's sheer size and scope. It'll be interesting to see what PC specs are required just to get this game to hit a stable/locked 60fps, as I think that'll be very telling.
I literally only use it to get reward points when there are quests for games that I can play on cloud and don't have to download them. That's it. I'm sure I'm not alone. I really have no interest in cloud, other than for that.
I rarely ever use the disc drive on my current Series X but, I like having it as an option. The old saying "Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" holds true, for me at least.
@Cashews You're either deliberately trolling or, you genuinely believe that emulation is solely piracy. If it's the latter, then you need to educate yourself before hurling such a baseless accusation at @FraserG
@Cashews Who is promoting the theft of Nintendo games? I can't see any suggestion that the writer is promoting that.
In any event, I doubt Microsoft will remove the ability to use emulators in dev mode. To do so will make the Xbox a target of the hacking scene again, just like the PS4 and PS5 are.
@Kaloudz I'm in agreement with you. I don't understand the furore over the "ads". I would only consider them problematic if they were advertising crap, like we get littered all over websites on our browsers. It's just content promotion as far as I'm concerned and if I'm not interested, I just ignore it.
I think the new dash is far quicker than the previous iteration, which was painfully slow at times. I'm happy with it.
@KoldFire Given that it's a feature that existed around 12 to 15 years ago on Xbox 360, I'm sorry but, your position doesn't make any sense. It seems you're simply annoyed as they didn't give Sony any credit in their article. To call it negligence is ridiculous. Both Sony and Microsoft "borrow" ideas from one another and it's nothing new. Heaven forbid someone doesn't mention in their article, about the new Xbox dashboard, that this limited and pretty inconsequential feature already exists on your precious PS5. 🤦🏻♂️
Anyone know how you actually enable the option to show the game art of the currently selected title as the background art? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Edit: Never mind. I had to force the new dashboard to default settings and it automatically started working.
@KoldFire Pretty sure the game art used to show full screen when you highlighted the game that was in your disc drive way back on the Xbox 360 NXE dashboard. Therefore, it's not a new thing that they've literally just stolen from PlayStation. Hell, if an idea is a good one anyway, why not implement it, just as Sony did when they launched PSN which many would argue was copying Xbox Live. 🤷🏻♂️
In any event, playing Halo Combat Evolved was my first memory. However, I hated the Duke controller and only fell in love with my OG Xbox when the S controller came out. That's when I moved over to Xbox as my primary system.

@K1LLEGAL I suspect it's more to do with Xbox keeping their stuff for Sunday, rather than Geoff favouring PS over Xbox.
Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Summer Game Fest 2024 Showcase?
Did Xbox just hold everything back for Sunday? Looks like it.

Hellblade 2 wasn't revealed 5 years ago. It was revealed in December 2019 so that's 4 years and 1 month ago. My most anticipated title of 2024!

@Mephisto2869 Yes, I know that. My point remains that Sony in particular appears to be cutting a lot of jobs across their studios.

Sony is on a rampage with job cuts at the moment. Hope those that lost their jobs find a new one with another studio without too much trouble.
