Just Beat: Strangers of Paradise-Final Fantasy Origin (Series X) Now Playing: Too Human (Series X) & Star Ocean-First Departure (Switch) Up Next: Chrono Cross-Radical Dreamers Edition (Series X)
5 million behind Playstation is fine. Microsoft has accumulated massive power in the acquisition of all it's studios. We have not seen even the first stirrings of the impact that will have. Soon, Xbox will be in a position to release a major AAA exclusive every 2-3 months. At that point, Xbox will overtake Sony very quickly and leave them in the dust. Starfield will be the launchpad in November. After that, it's game on! ...unless Sony does something crazy like buying Square Enix, Capcom and Namco Bandai. Then all bets are off.
I plan on buying Arise and Nexus on Xbox still to support JRPG's on the console as well. I just beat Strangers of Paradise on Series X, which was waaaay better than I expected. The combat becomes so addictive, and the levels so cleverly modeled after other historic Final Fantasy locations, that I didn't want it to end. I plan on maxing out all of the job classes before retiring the game to the collection shelf. I hope it gets a sequel.
@SacredPYRO Lost Odyssey, Psychonauts, Blue Dragon... all excellent reasons to spend some time in the past. LO and BD are in my 'must play' list. Beat Psychonauts waaaaay back during it's original Xbox release. Playing part 2 now.
@Hexamex-Tex True. I've actually purchased MORE games since subscribing to Gamepass. Gamepass gives me the ability to sample way more games than I otherwise would be able to. When I discover a game I like, I'll often buy it to ensure I have the ability to continue playing should it leave the service at some point in the future.
@Dezzy70 I actually agree. Switched over to Team Green for the first time this gen because of the promise of everything Xbox was building and decisions they were making. I am patient. I know big things are brewing and it's going to be great, but I would love to start seeing the realization of that potential. So far we have received Psychonauts 2, which is amazing, but I feel (and hope) that Starfield will be the launchpad, so to speak, of what will be an epic run of first party content, the likes of which Xbox has never seen before!
@Would_you_kindly I have been a lifelong Nintendo player with Sony always as my back up. This gen I chose Xbox (mainly due to Doublefine and Bethesda) and I will say, I am absolutely LOVING my series X! There is so much on offer between the Xbox marketplace and Gamepass that I will never play all the titles I want, and the heavy exclusives haven't even started hitting yet! This is going to be an amazing generation for Xbox!
Love Doublefine. The announcement that they were acquired by Microsoft was the moment I abandoned my Playstation and bought a Series X. Psychonauts 2 is amazing, all of the fun and creativity of part 1 with an added layer of sleek polish, and a little of that old Lucas Arts DNA embedded within.
Looking forward to what comes next from them and really excited about the future of Xbox in general with the massive amount of talent at their disposal throughout all of their studios!
@Vinsanity Yes! Alone in the Dark is my favorite horror franchise! Timesplitters is one of my favorite FPS (along with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark)! Either one would be a day one purchase for me.
Galleon. It was an action adventure from the creator of Tomb Raider, so I was very hyped for it leading up to release and couldn't wait to play it. It ended up getting bashed in reviews but I loved it anyway. After that it was a little Halo and Halo 2 before returning wholeheartedly to Nintendo (loved the Gamecube). It was Nintendo from then on, but I kind of wish it wasn't. I feel like I missed a lot of awesome, state of the art experiences by sticking with Wii and Wii U. No longer. I have made the jump to Xbox this gen and am overwhelmed with all of the years of content available for me to catch up on. Now if Nintendo suddenly and unexpectedly changed their business strategy and made a powerhouse system that outperformed the others from a graphical and processing perspective, and with a robust, persistent online ecosystem, that included easy pick up and play communication and an achievement system, would I surrender all other consoles and go back to the big N? YES! But that will never happen so... Xbox it is.
I've been a Nintendo loyalist since 1985 and Sony has always been my secondary systems. This gen though, Xbox is making big moves. Their decisions seem to be targeted right at the long time, hardcore gaming crowd while it appears Sony is experimenting with appeasing fringe groups. I went Xbox Series X as my primary console this gen. I am not regretting it. The system already has more of my type of content than I'll ever have time to play and the future looks extremely bright. The library contains a perfect blend of old and new so I can bounce around between nostalgic legends like Perfect Dark and modern marvels like Forza and Sea of Thieves. Creative epics like Psychonauts and deep RPG's like all that is to come from Bethesda. It doesn't just have offerings from every genre, it has the best that every genre has to offer. That is a testament to some very good decisions made by their leadership. They are winning over the hearts of gamers who had previously viewed them as the new bullies on the block, and I believe that will translate into new customers and serious $$$.
Psychonauts!! Love Doublefine, and it's acquisition by Microsoft was a deciding factor in me choosing to go Xbox Series X this generation. Morrowind was also great and would be my second choice.
