Re: 15 Years Ago Today, Halo 3's Phenomenal 'Believe' Marketing Campaign Began

Grail_Quest

Remember dreaming of what the future held? The prospect of seeing Halo in live action on the big screen? The promise of what could have been makes reality all the more tragic. What we wound up with instead was a TV show that will always remain a soulless, irrelevant stain on the legacy of what Halo once meant to the world of gaming. A coughed up ball of phlegm, spit in the face of the Xbox faithful, arriving long after our youth and the spark of enthusiasm had begun to cool. Instead of re-igniting the passion of the fan base, it placed it's "left" boot on the embers in a calculated effort to smother them out. The message was clear, we who compelled Master Chief along his inaugural journey on the unproven Xbox, who spent long nights over pizza and soda playing against unknown adversaries in Halo 2, who ushered in the era of online play, voice chat and achievements, who rallied to the green banner in order to "finish the fight!", who remained to experience what would come next... this iconic property, we helped to flourish... was no longer for us. We are no longer welcome behind the visor. Tragic and short sighted. Remember dreaming of what the future held......?

Re: 'The Witcher 4' On Unreal Engine 5 Is The First Part Of A Multi-Game Saga

That's sad. CD Project becomes trapped within a single IP in order to remain financially viable. Then, when people tire of Witcher, what happens? I'm not saying it's the wrong business move, I just wish the situation with Cyberpunk had turned out differently so they could enjoy the freedom to be creative and explore new ideas. In turn we, as gamers would get to enjoy new universes and experiences. Oh, well..

Re: Rumour: Indiana Jones Might Not Be An Xbox Exclusive

Exclusive games and IP are critical for the health of a console manufacturer and the games industry as a whole. If Nintendo didn't own so many beloved IP that have remained exclusive to their consoles, they wouldn't have been in a position to continue fighting (and sometimes dominating) larger companies like Sony and Microsoft who have alternative revenue streams that help to feed their console ambitions.

There would be no Switch system today and no promise of future innovations or gaming experiences from a company that would have been unable to compete as a hardware manufacturer, if their games were on all competing consoles.

Making a decision as to which console to buy is not just about specs and features. What happens when all three major console manufacturers release a system with identical specs, features AND games? .....why would anyone buy more than one? They wouldn't, which means the market shrinks, and the dynamic that currently exists where gamers buy more than one console to get at that companies exclusives, disappears. This means less dollars spread amongst the various manufacturers, which ultimately means you likely wind up with two of them going out of business, with only the most financially viable company remaining. In that scenario, Microsoft wins and the world of console gaming comes down simply to Xbox.

Believe it or not, exclusive games (even Microsofts ability to secure them for their own platform) is the bulwark that works against a gaming landscape that sees Xbox as the sole console option.

Exclusive titles are critical and help shape the value proposition for the consumer when deciding which console to buy.

Re: Xbox Throws Major Shade At Claims Of 'Game Pass Burnout'

Being a huge Suikoden fan, I was looking forward to Eiyuden Chronicle Rising. I got home from work on the day that it launched, having anticipated the game all week, and jumped on to the Xbox Store fully prepared to buy the game for $15. Surprise! The game showed that it was available on Gamepass. Instead, of paying $15, I was able to download and play it for "free". It was an awesome feeling to be able to unexpectedly hang on to that $15, and with that one game, Game Pass paid for itself for the whole month! I've put 30 hours in so far so I feel like I've got my moneys worth. I feel like that was a perfect example of the value of GP and just made me happier to be a subscriber.

Truthfully, there are more good options for games to play on there than I'll ever have time to experience with more dropping all the time. I would like to see those AAA games too, but I'm ok if they are a little spread out, as it gives me time to plumb the depths of the GP catalogue a little more.

Re: EA Reportedly Keen To Sell Or Merge

@UltimateOtaku91 I don't agree that it would be a good outcome for any of those companies to buy EA. Sure, games would remain multi-plat, but none of those companies understand, or frankly even care about videogames. I guess the era when game publishers were passionate about games, is well and truly over. Just a bunch of corporate dollar generators now.

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake Delayed Indefinitely, Again

Grail_Quest

This is actually the best possible news. Ubisoft Mumbai was a new studio, assembled exclusively for this project, with no prior experience in game development, hence the lackluster results we got in the first preview of the remake. Quite an insult to the Prince actually, as the original game and it's legacy, deserved much better than that. Ubisoft Montreal is one of the companies top tier game houses, and the Prince will be in much better hands. Hoping for something good from this now as Prince of Persia is one of my favorite franchises.

Re: Xbox Isn't Done With New Acquisitions, Job Listing Suggests

We need more of a Japanese presence within the Xbox ecosystem. Something akin to what they accomplished with Mistwalker during the 360 era. I hope they can secure some exclusivity of some kind with Namco, Sega or Square. Although, of the three, Sega seems the most viable. (Namco and Nintendo have been cozy for awhile, and Square is infatuated with Sony.) Resurrect the Shining and Phantasy Star series and bring new, modern versions to Xbox!
