Re: Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About Ravenlok On Xbox Game Pass

CaptnDave

It sounds like it's meant for a younger audience primarily, which is absolutely fine, but the reviews seem to speak about how it might serve that younger audience well as a detriment since it doesn't serve the reviewer as well personally. This seems to happen a lot with video games, but we wouldn't measure a Saturday morning cartoon as we would an Agatha Cristie mystery, or horror movie, or drama, or any other movie aimed at adults. So why don't video games get rated this way? I for one would like to know both how I might enjoy it and how my kids might enjoy it.

Re: Digital Foundry Looks At Halo Infinite's Ongoing Issues

Custom Mode in Multiplayer seems like it should be something to hold over those hoping for co-op sooner but it's unfortunately very broken. Don't get me wrong, the bots play pretty well and are nicely adjustable. The actual game modes though are quite buggy:. Played capture the flag where once we captured a flag it never returned. Played control (I think that was the mode's name — the one where you need to control zones) and there were no zones. These bugs kinda ruin the experience

Re: Xbox Exec Describes Game Pass Hit Tunic As A 'Masterpiece'

CaptnDave

I'm sorry but I really didn't enjoy this game. I really wanted to as I'm a huge Zelda fan but combat plus the dark souls like punishment when you die just was far too frustrating to make the game enjoyable. I didn't mind the unknown / mystery aspects of the game and might have even enjoyed those if the game was advertised as such (i.e set the proper expectations). And perhaps most importantly, if they had an option that lessened the Dark Souls aspects (particularly given its cute aesthetics) than I might give it another go, but until then even at "free" there are other games that are far more worth my precious time. I somehow hope the developer will see this comment and consider adding in a less punishing mode update.

Re: Review: Tunic - This Zelda-Esque Adventure Was Worth The Wait

@JayJ I unfortunately have to agree that I really didn't enjoy this game. I really wanted to as I'm a huge Zelda fan but the "clumsy" combat as the reviewer puts it plus the dark souls like punishment when you die just was far too frustrating to make the game enjoyable.

Re: Poll: Have You Bought Elden Ring?

CaptnDave

A "limited-time demo" or a "free try weekend" would really help me out a lot here in deciding whether this was for me. As it's a huge game and if it really is as good as say it is, then this should be a low risk advertising option

I'm actually really curious how it plays as a co-op game. I'm kind of uncertain of how easy /friendly it is to bring some one in. I read that if the "visiting" player dies that they get kicked out of the world and then have to go through some extra summoning steps again. Given the frequency at which players may die, this seems like a huge pain over the classic, hold x to respawn / revive. Also does anyone know if the "visiting" player gets to keep any gained experience or items? As I'm really only interested in playing through this with a friend, this is probably going to be a deciding factor for me and my friends. If anyone can provide any info / opinions on co-op that would be appreciated. TIA! (Thanks in advance).

Re: Sea Of Thieves' First Narrative-Driven Adventure Begins Today

CaptnDave

I really like the idea of narrative adventures in Sea of Thieves but the limited time window stinks in my opinion. It's kind of like a limited time window book. I have fairly limited "spare time" and I might be in the middle of reading a book / playing a game already and I don't want to just drop that midway. People can watch old movies, read old books, even play older games typically, so only being able to play a part of a game for a few weeks just seems so limiting. So I hope the limited time windows don't hurt the possibility of more narrative options in the future (with hopefully more time & flexibility to enjoy it)

Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why The Kinect Was An Important Step For Xbox

Actually I still have fun with our kids and a kinect connected to our 360. I think what killed the idea was it's over devotion to "controller free" gaming. If they added controllers like they have with VR headsets now (or even a regular xBox controller) I think they wouldn't have limited developers so much and we would have had (and possibly still have) a wider variety of gameplay styled games.

Re: Soapbox: Forza Horizon 5 Is Going To Need To Lean Into The Series' Absurdity To Impress Me

I agree wholeheartedly with this article. The graphics look great but I want a real over-the-top ARCADE racer. With over the top jumps, nearly indestructible cars, forgiving controls, even when using a wheel, Burnout Paradise and Midtown Madness (for those who can remember it) have been by favorite and just sheer fun, non-kart racing games. (The Crew 2 may have had some of this spirit but I never had the chance to try it) The only way this game is going to get any of my time or money is if it offers this kind of fun. Let's hope the developers read this article and these comments and at least make an option that makes the racing more over-the-top fun.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Game Pass Racers Is Your Favourite?

CaptnDave

I'm glad so many people seem to like Horizon 4 but for me its been a horrible disappointment. I've tried 2 racing wheels (listed as being supported by the developers) and its been terrible with both of them despite multiple on-line forum searches and posts directly to the developer (who's response was horrible) I really want to like that game but the car spins out way too easy for an "arcade racer" .

Burnout Paradise doesn't even officially support wheels but even my 4 year old can drive with a wheel and have fun there.

Horizon4 has been nothing but frustrating for me as a long time gamer. I can't even come close to winning a single race on the easiest setting. As soon as another car bumps me in the slightest way, I loose control and even then I can't come close to the lap times of the AI once everyone has passed me. I'm getting gamer rage just thinking about it (which I almost never get with any other game).

If anyone has any helpful suggestions that would be appreciated. I have a Thurstmaster TMX and a PXN V3II (the later is cheaper and works better, go figure). I was really hoping my 7 year old might be able to enjoy the Lego add-on with a wheel. (Gotta do what you can to make things special during COVID times). Thanks in advance.
