Re: Phil Spencer Tells Xbox Fan To Expect Major xCloud Feature 'This Year'

Astig

@themightyant I absolutely agree with you there. Microsoft needs to improve streaming in general through their apps. I have many times before today submitted bugs and improvement ideas to them via app feedback.

While the list was more of an attempt to be comprehensive, I understand this may be beyond some people. But if someone can do only one of these, there will be an improvement. I guess that is the goal. A slight change maybe all that is needed to improve someone's performance. Or make a game playable. Also it may be better for someone to get game streaming to your Xbox one working, rather than buy a series x.

Also understanding why there device may not be the best, could lower expectations to a reasonable level. They might think, this is OK for the gear I have. It's not worth an upgrade.

But I do just love it when someone says, "I did what you said and it works great now". If a guide is writen and if one person does anything on this list and it works, increasing their enjoyment, then it is worth it.

@FraserG would it be possible for an article the teach people how to improve their cloud gaming?

Something in the same vein as your guide to earning rewards points.

I read comments all the time about people not having joy in cloud gaming or remote play due to lag/input lag etc.

Most problems are easily fixed. You just need to know where to look.

I have a basic list of improvements.

1. Use 5ghz wifi. Turn off 2.4ghz or at least run separate signals and ignore the 2.4ghz signal on your device. Devices can divert back to 2.4ghz because of the stronger signal killing your ping.

2. Wired if possible. Use wired connections. Definitely on your Xbox if you want to use remote play. But even playing on the cloud. If you can wire it. Do it.

3. Use wifi 6. Use wireless networks that are capable of wifi 6. Wifi 6 has much less latency than wifi 5. So get a new router/enable wifi 6 if you have it. Also on your device settings enable signal type/strength. Then a little 6 or 5 will show up next to your wifi signal. If you can always choose 6.

4. Upnp/or port forward. Enable upnp on your router or port forward your Xbox live port. Doesn't hurt to do both.

5. Use default xbox live port. Use 3074 on the Xbox you wish to remote play from. If you have two xboxes one will need a different port. But the one you want to remote to most, put on 3074. Some business wifi/public Hotspots block all ports over 50000 which most of the fallback Xbox live ports are.

6. Enable QoS. Use QoS on your router and if you can, prioritise gaming. Also enable QoS under network settings on your Xbox.

7. Mimo. Get a smart router with mimo or equivalent. Maybe something with an app that you can prioritize clients. Then prioritize your Xbox and any devices connecting to it.

8. Get closer to the router. If using wifi try and get closer to the router. Or if not an option use another wired device as a wireless Hotspot. My work computer works great for this.

9. Check to wifi chip in your device. Older devices have slower wifi chips. An s24 is going to have less latency than a s22. Not to mention way faster than an a03.

10. Upgrade your controller. Using an old Bluetooth controller may well be slowing you down. Bluetooth 4.0 is light-years faster than Bluetooth 2.0. So your device or the controller may be running on an older Bluetooth standard.

11. Wired again. Get something like a razor kishi/backbone. Plugs directly into the USB c port on your phone. Destroying input lag.

12. Fibre. Get a Fibre internet connection. If not available, get the best wired internet connection you can get. Forget adsl, vdsl, satellite or even 3g/4g mobile data broadband packages. They are all going to suck.

13. Use gaming mode. A lot of phones or tablets have a dedicated gaming mode. These quite often limit background applications sucking up bandwidth or processor power. Some even enable a performance mode making the device run faster.

Well that pretty much the basics. If you do all that, you will have no problems.

I liked your guide for the rewards and thought you might also be interested in something like this.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Xbox Kinect?

Still to this day, we have fun with a bowling night. Or a fruit ninja night. Great for playing with younger kids. On my own I play Kung fu. So awesome. I love the kinect, I have all the games. Except air guitar kinect. Just waiting for a sale on that one.

Re: These 10+ Xbox Games Are Shutting Their Servers This December

Astig

This just makes my decision to move away from paying to play online. When my Core sub runs out, I will not be renewing I think. Maybe they should batch system link into games before the take servers down. Now I can't have as many games to choose from when me and my mates have a classics game night

Re: Some Xbox Fans Aren't Happy About 'Intrusive' Call Of Duty: MW3 Ads

Astig

@theduckofdeath
Hahaha did you seriously just try and justify Xbox making ad revenue at our expense with no compensation? Also your comment makes no sense, only to prove my point. Ads on TV gives me free TV. Netflix (no ads), Disney (no ads). Internet free information. No ads on my computer. No ads in the games I pay for. So if Xbox wants to give me ads, the I need compensation. I like said. Fair!

Re: Some Xbox Fans Aren't Happy About 'Intrusive' Call Of Duty: MW3 Ads

Astig

Nah fair enough. This shouldn't be happening. I bought the console. I am not renting it. I don't have an ad based subscription. I am in my tabs an ad for McDonald's. I mean wtf. If it was a collaboration and I was getting a free burger or something yeah. But a straight up ad. No no and no. If you want to show me ads Xbox, give me online play for free. It's only fair.

Re: Less Than 1% Of Xbox Players Own The Coveted 'Day One' Achievement

Astig

Yes I do have it. Unlocked 20/11/13. So got it a day early. I guess everyone should have moved to NZ for that one ha.

@themightyant Thank you so much for that. Unfortunately I could only pin it to my feed and not my profile. Still a win though.

Edit: Also my Day One background looks awesome on my Day One Xbox.

@BacklogBrad
This is indeed true. Perhaps I have a little too much wishful thinking. I see a world where AI infused quantum computers, create my perfect game with limitless potential. But you bring up a good point of the economics of this world. The future will be decided by the mindless consumer robots of the world. Not by me. So yes in my AI, quantum cloud, it could all just be free to play, politics and mediocre garbage. Then I'll be buying a portable PC to play good old games locally. Ha.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Explains Decision To Buy ActiBlizz Cloud Rights From Xbox

@BacklogBrad
A phone/TV/portable PC, will never have the power of a server bank. Cloud gaming is in its infancy. It has just been born. Imagine games designed with cloud in mind. Creating mods in real time and sharing them with your friends. Procedurally generated world's in real time with real world graphics. Portable. A little over 20 years ago a phone had two lines of text. You could send a message, but it had to be less than 200 characters. Cloud gaming is that phone. In 20 years it can do so much more than we can even imagine. That is what Microsoft sees. That is what Ubisoft sees. That is what I see.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Explains Decision To Buy ActiBlizz Cloud Rights From Xbox

Cloud gaming has unlimited potential. I mean unlimited. Imagine playing the latest game on any device. Have a TV a keyboard and mouse, you have the latest PC. Have a controller and a phone, you have the latest console. Have a headset, you have a portable PSVR. I mean take away hardware requirements and just think of what can be achieved. Kinect/motion play could return using your phones camera. Party games that use your touch screen that you currently need a console to play. Bam unlimited potential of cloud gaming in your pocket. I am a true believer that this is the future.

Re: Soapbox: Remote Play Is One Of Xbox's Most Underrated Features

Astig

Necro bump. This absolutely needs a re discussion. I remote play seemlessly at work (on my lunch break of course) just using my mobile data. Not to mention all the games that are not on the cloud I can play as if they were. Gamepass console only games. As well as my collection of Xbox games. Also we need to put pressure on Microsoft to give us 360 games via remote play.

Re: Report: Microsoft Offers Sony The 'Right' To Include Call Of Duty On PlayStation Plus

Astig

A Nintendo fan here. Sony is already anti-consumer. This is pathetic now. Xbox should be able to just buy any games company they like. Why are we treating this as special. Disney acquired 20th Century Fox to own 60% of all TV and movie ip. The courts allowed it. He'll Microsoft can buy Nintendo if the want to spend the cash. Who cares. So long as they keep making Zelda and don't mess with the formula. I mean what is wrong with this deal? I have a Nintendo I play most of my games on Nintendo. But I have recently subscribed to Game Pass. So I will play cod on that. If I wanted do. Haven't played cod since the 90's. But the point is play your favorite games on PS and play cod on game pass if it was exclusive. This childish attitude that you are entitled to play a game on your system is losing ground now. Back in the day if I wanted to play Crash I had to get a ps1. I had an n64 so I only played crash at a friend's place. Can the people trying to put forward an argument for sony please stop. If you are on this site then either you have an Xbox to play on if it becomes exclusive (so you have no argument) or you just came to argue. Netflix did not cry like a little girl when Disney acquired Fox to make a streaming service, so why is Sony doing it. Grow up.

Re: Phil Spencer: Sony Wants To 'Make Xbox Smaller' To Protect PlayStation's Dominance

Ok so I have a patch of land. I grow strawberries on it. I sell strawberries to Barry and Joe.
Joe buys lots of strawberries so he negotiated for some extra apples from me that he sells in a pack.
Barry buys a few strawberries to sell on there own. But Barry wants to start delivering a new pack of fruit straight to people's doors. He thinks if he packs it with a lot of strawberries people will sign up.
Barry wants to buy the land and all the strawberries for this purpose.
He offers me a good price and I accept.

Then Joe comes along and calls the cops saying I can't sell my land to Barry because he still wants not only the strawberries but also the apples.

How is this fair I say. Joe you can offer me more than Barry and the strawberry farm is yours. But Joe just wants his deal.

It is my farm and I now am already thinking about what I will do with the money. But I won't so it for a year or maybe at all because Joe is a *****.
