@jongred Agreed. I thought Kalimba and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood in particular were terrific exclusives and I'm very sad to see the plug pulled on the studio.
Microsoft and Phil hadn't put a foot wrong until recently... But it seems like everything they announce lately is detrimental to Xbox.
It's the fact they closed the entire studio of talented staff that gets me. If they were concerned about the reception of the game they could have simply delayed it until next year and rejigged it or given them another project to work on. Seems they aren't looking to the future (of xbox) and are only concerned with short term profitability.
@SuperKMx Wish I could share your confidence and although I do agree they took the game in a direction I didn't like... a lot of people were still looking forward to it and surely it would have shifted a decent number of copies...
I'm genuinely shocked... they've been working on Fable for years, to just pull the plug without even launching the game seems ludicrous. Press Play too... I loved Max: The Curse of Brotherhood...
So that's a well loved, Xbox exclusive franchise just flushed down the toilet. This, along with everything else announced recently really makes me worry about the future of Xbox - Microsoft are ruthless. Only got to look at Windows Phone/Nokia acquisition for proof of that.
I enjoyed the first game but never quite completed it... would have preferred that to be released as a BC title so I could polish it off to be honest but might pick this up instead. Price is reasonable unlike Deadpool which launched at full price. Never played Riptide so not sure if the bundle would be worth it or not...
Is Phil starting to lose his magic touch? Seems pretty out of touch with what console gaming is all about... at least in my eyes. I just want a box that will play all the latest games for the next 7-8 years and not have to worry about spending on upgrades and other stuff.
I read yesterday that Forza is now going to come to the PC too... reading between the lines makes me think that the xbox console as we know it is on the way out and the Xbox Service for PC's is on the horizon... They can't have failed to notice that Tomb Raider shifted 3 times as many copies on PC than on Xbox... hope it doesn't come to pass but the more things I hear the more I start to believe it.
Makes more sense to do it this way rather than the way they said they were going to do it... Doesn't bother me personally and I wouldn't have thought it would bother too many other people either given the prolific use of Netflix and Prime Video these days.
@GraveLordXD Yes you can - at least with any title that is on the Backward Compatibility list. Any BC games you already own digitally are also free to download on the X1 too...
Basically you only have to buy 360 games that you don't already own
@Knight You've always been able to choose the length of clip you want when you snap GameDVR but this looks like you will be able to set the default length of 'Record That' clips which have always been fixed at 30 seconds.
Agreed, good read and helped me realise that this game is not for me as the trailer made it look pretty appealing. Don't like these sort of survival games (Don't Starve etc) - prefer something with a clear sense of progression/story these days.
I ditched my PS+ subscription about a year ago and nothing has changed since to make me regret my decision. To be honest the only thing stopping me from selling my PS4 is Uncharted 4 and the ever dangling carrot of The Last Guardian. None of my mates have one and most of the exclusives aren't my thing. Ok some of the multi-platform titles may look a little better on the PS4 (if you enjoy pausing your games and whipping out a magnifying glass on a regular basis) but for me the Xbox beats it in pretty much hands down in every respect.
Good review, been wondering what this game was like since I saw it pop up totally without any fanfare in the store. Will almost certainly pick this up tomorrow - reminds me of Broken Sword (which I loved).
I've never read any of the books or watched the films/TV shows so I know nothing about the stories and precious little about how Poirot would behave. So whilst I'll probably struggle in the 'what would Hercule do?' department at least none of the plot twists and turns will be spoiled!
I disagree - I love these games and the last one was the best ever IMHO. The side scrolling AC games are rubbish though so that's no consolation what-so-ever. I'm very disappointed with this news as it means I won't be getting a new AC now for 2 years!
Not everyone wants a revolution in these franchises - I've been more than happy with AC3, Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate despite the vocal minority on the Internet constantly lambasting them (especially Unity which I had barely an issue with).
Maybe they will release AC Rogue Remastered or at least get it on the BC list so I have some AC to fill that void with...
@TwilightOniAngel Thanks - that's pretty much what I thought it would be, even though part of me was hoping it would be something more. Definitely not going to bother with this then... will have to hope they put the original on the BC list at some point then.
Sooo....what's the Xbox One version of Deadpool like then? I played it on 360 and enjoyed it a lot... game was probably mediocre but I loved Nolan Norths portrayal of Deadpool and the stupid humour which elevated the whole thing to greatness for me... not sure if it's worth a second visit though?
I've been a little disappointed with the voice work in this one... the previous Lego Marvel game had (presumably) original voice work recorded for all the characters whereas this one is just samples cut straight from the movies and it doesn't quite gel for me... It may be Robert Downey Jr. voicing Iron Man for real but because the dialogue has been clipped from the movie soundtrack it just doesn't sound right. Same can be said for Jurassic World and Lord of the Rings etc I suppose... Other than that good review
Like the look of this a lot - we do seem to be getting spoiled in the area of space exploration games lately
One thing I don’t quite understand though is why it is launching as a preview with episodic updates followed by a complete release as a ‘full’ game. Why not just release as a normal game with episodic updates like others do? Or are actual gameplay elements not finished yet?
I'm really glad to see this on there and will definitely play it again as soon as it goes live for real. Really hoping LA Noire gets added too as I never 100%'d it first time around...
Personally I'm more than happy they're releasing this as a BC title. I'd much rather any efforts on Rockstars part were directed towards making Read Dead 2 rather than a re-mastered version of the original...
Been looking forward to this for a while now and have been getting a bit frustrated by the constant delays.I really enjoy playing these sort of interactive story games. There are plenty of shooters, combat and horror games to cater for people that like those but games like these a re few and far between. Day 1 purchase for me.
I enjoyed this back when it was on Windows Phone but the freemium model did spoil it a bit. Providing £7.99 is the full and final payment to play the game then I'll most likely pick this up.
Have to confess I did have a Beavis & Butthead moment when I read 'Controlling the titular princess' heh heh heh... there's no way that phrase was used by accident
@MaccaMUFC @Supertax Thanks guys. Got no problem with a game being online only but do have a problem with randoms for team based games. Trying to do heists on GTA online for instance can be a nightmare. Even if there's only one random they can ruin it for everyone if they decide to mess about or quit part way through. I don't much like spending valuable gaming time sat in a lobby either lol
Have to say I like the look of this a lot - I do have a soft spot for sci-fi and space in general and the trailer certainly grabbed my attention. I enjoyed Lifeless Planet and that had pretty low production values... This looks (potentially) a lot better. Animation of the astronaut looked great and if done right this game has the potential to be a really tense, lonely survival experience.
Wow someone else old enough to know what SID music is
Was about to write this off as yet another side-scrolling platform game but this one seems to have a certain charm... I love the art style, 80's theme, music and the rewind time mechanic looks pretty interesting. I know Braid had a similar mechanic but I just couldn't get into that game at the time and I wasn't a big fan of the art style it used (particularly the main character)... looking forward to this though!
Make it with a decent single player campaign and I'm in - I really miss fighting the Nazis in the likes of COD 2 and the Medal of Honour games. I grew up watching endless WW2 films and enjoy that period in time and the weaponry available. I'm getting weary of all the modern and futuristic shooters now. There was a time when everyone said the same of WW2 games but it seems like an eternity since we've had one. Having said that - making it multiplayer only turns me right off, we've got dozens of those already
The Colin McRae liveries / documentary and Mini Cooper pack just sold me on pre-ordering this. I must admit I was thinking about getting Seb Loeb rally but I'm not any more
@Captain_Chao5 Voice commands? Mine controls my Sky box too but agree with you about gaming... There's Kinect Sports and a very small handful of good indi games but that's it. Real shame. Seems what the masses want the masses get...
@MegaKillScreen Did you speak to the old woman in the pub? Hands down the worst voice-over I've ever heard... It was almost like the person doing it was deliberately taking the piss! And you're right the facial animations were really creepy looking
I paid £23 last time I paid for 1 years gold (CD Keys)... that works out at less than £2 a month... kind of puts the free games situation into perspective for me... You're getting the superb Xbox live service, all the discounts as pointed out above and up to 4 free games a month. Even if there's only 1 or 2 a YEAR that take your fancy it's still a bloody good deal!
Good, fair review. I got this at launch as it looked interesting and enjoyed it while it lasted... I think being a short game worked in it's favour as by the end it was all starting to wear a bit thin.
Experienced the same problems with texture pop-in too, even tried installing it on my SSD but that didn't alleviate the problem either.
With a bit more time spent it could have been so much better - the 'alter something in the past to solve a problem in the present idea was almost non-existent and it could have been the basis for many interesting puzzles (think awesome 'The Silent Age' style puzzles). I guess they wanted it to be more of an action game though...
@SuperKMx Any idea what's happening with this please Ken? It was scheduled for earlier this month and got knocked back to yesterday and now it's just showing as 'unavailable'. Was really looking forward to getting stuck into this one over the weekend...
I think it's a decent line up myself - always fancied giving Styx a whirl but never did so I now get to try it for free. Hand of Fate looks interesting too. Already got all 4 Gears games but I'm willing to give Sacred Citadel a go as I've never played any of that series' games.
Spot on with that review... enjoying it a lot, I find these sort of games very relaxing to play through and my wife likes to be co-pilot for the puzzles which is a nice bonus. I did find I needed to turn the music volume down though as it grated very quickly. Some of the voice work is beyond dire but it's only there to loosely tie the puzzles together so not a big deal. I guess we can look forward to another dozen of these over the next couple of years then as they work their way through their PC back-catalogue
I bought this yesterday so won't enter but good luck to anyone who does. It's a decent adventure puzzler, much like the other one they released last year, But good god, the voice acting for some of the NPC's is tragic... makes the Resident Evil dialogue seem worthy of an Oscar by comparison!
Really looking forward to this, was a big fan of Contrast, especially the period setting and art style. Have to say I'm disappointed that this will be debuting on the Game Preview programme rather than launching properly. Do we have any indication of how long it will remain a 'preview' game?

Re: Project CARS to Get Game of the Year Edition on Xbox One in May

Game of the Year my arse... call it 'Definitive Collection' or 'Complete Edition' by all means but GotY is just BS.

All good stuff but I'll never see the benefit of 16 Person Parties lol... don't have that many friends!
Achievements viewable in the guide and being able to set default DVR length to 5 mins have to be my personal favourite additions.
Re: Xbox One Finally Gets Ability To Purchase Backward Compatible Games From the Console
Too right it's about time... should really have had this sorted when BC launched... but pleased it's finally happening.
