Re: Review: Oyen Digital Shadow Mini SSD for Xbox One

stylon

@Captain_Chao5 Yeah I remember those arguments too, people used to maintain that you could just uninstall games if you ran out of space. But that wasn't going to happen for years they'd say. Why do you need to have them all installed anyway, you're only going to play 1 or 2 at a time blah blah blah.

I was running out of space within months of buying my Xbox One. For a 'Next Gen' system it really was short-sighted penny pinching to not have 1TB as standard. There should be a 4TB option by now... not a measly 1TB.

Still drooling over the SSD's personally. Fallout 4 would definitely benefit and Just Cause 3 too... loading times are terrible on that one...

Re: Review: Oyen Digital Shadow Mini SSD for Xbox One

stylon

@sorethumbed Thanks for pointing that out - just been drooling over them! They do a 500GB version for £155 which I'm very, very drawn to. Not bothered about capacity so much as I'll only be using it for specific big open world type games that would benefit from the speed. There's reviews from peeps using them with Xbox Ones too that corroborate the benefits... apparently you just need plug it into a PC first to disable the security and reformat it and you're good to go!

Re: Review: Oyen Digital Shadow Mini SSD for Xbox One

stylon

That's really disappointing - I would have bought this IF it had been fast. Digital Foundry did an article on running the console version of Fallout 4 on an SSD a while back and it made a dramatic difference to loading times (almost halved)... but that was a full blown PC SSD in a caddy. This must be something more like a regular flash drive.

Re: Quantum Break Launches New Cinematic Trailer

stylon

Really looking forward to this, I love Sci-Fi. time travel, X-Files and so on and these seems to have a bit of all of those! Glad they're not giving too much away... want to be able to experience as much as possible first hand when I'm actually playing it in a few months time.

Re: Telltale Reveals New Batman Game Series In The Works

stylon

@BAMozzy The very fact that these games aren't full blown AAA games is part of their charm. I know when I sit down to play an episode that I'll be able to complete it within a couple of hours and that it will be a relaxing, fun experience, almost like reading a short story or graphic novel.

Their games never ask too much from the player and there is definitely a place for that quality in my library, for those times when I'm too mentally exhausted to be bothered playing much else but don't want to watch crap TV. If I want more then I'd play one of the many other games I've got.

I fully understand your appreciation of 'The Witcher' - in fact it's probably my all time favourite game of any generation. I also love COD, the Arkham games, GTA, Tomb Raider, AC etc. etc... but none of those fill the niche that the Telltale Games do. I don't even mind the episodic nature too much, so long as there isn't too big of a gap between releases where I'll forget the storyline!

As for cost I feel £3-4 per episode is a fair price too for the level of entertainment you get... on a par with a renting a movie off Sky or similar... The game probably entertains longer than your typical 90 minute movie too. Of course if you do the math then the 130 odd hours I've spent playing The Witcher is better value for money but I'm a gamer not an accountant - I don't really care too much so long as I feel that the money was well spent

Re: Telltale Reveals New Batman Game Series In The Works

stylon

They've not put a foot wrong since the original Walking Dead game IMO so I'm looking forward to this. They may not be 'games' in the more mainstream sense to some but they're still highly enjoyable experiences in their own right and I welcome them (and similar games) with open arms. Life would be pretty dull if all we got was COD clones, racing games and RPG's

Re: Review: BenQ RL2755HM Professional Console Gaming Monitor

stylon

I do like the idea of the hook to hang my headphones on... wish my Plasma had that feature. They could have gone further and incorporated some charging docks for controllers and some funky LED mood lighting - might have made it stand out. Unfortunately it looks far too boring and business like...

Re: Review: Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition (Xbox One)

stylon

@Red620Ti Only just spotted your reply (why is there no 'follow thread' option for news articles!) but a belated thanks for that. I'll pick it up when it's half price or less as I still like the sound of it and I can be quite forgiving of presentation so long as I enjoy a game.

Re: Dying Light: The Following DLC Is So Big, It'll Cost You Extra

stylon

I was about to get all high and mighty about this but then realised that it isn't really costing anyone anything extra - existing season pass holders are covered (which is fair) and they've given everyone else fair warning too. If anyone had their eye on this then they now know they can get it at the original price if they act soon. Really this will only affect new buyers from Dec 8th and they will be buying it at the (then) advertised price so it's all good.

Re: New Project Cars DLC Adds Three Tracks and Four New Vehicles

stylon

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi I could never quite get into this game... the handling of the cars was really offputting (super twitchy). It did improve with a patch but you still had to tweak the sensitivity of each car you drove. I think if I persevered I might enjoy it more... but it's easier to just load up Forza 6 or FH2

Re: Review: Star Wars: Battlefront (Xbox One)

stylon

Been playing the 10 hour trial on EA Access and after initially dissing it during the beta I'very found it a lot of fun. Not sure how long that would last but I've still got a good 5 hours left of my trial so will see how I feel at the end of that.

I suck at COD online but can hold my own in battlefront so that's something going for it anyway

Re: Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility on Xbox One Still a Possibility But 'Very Challenging'

stylon

@BAMozzy I already own several of these digitally so I want to see them appear as they were. If done correctly there is no reason why they can't be upscaled and have a few aliasing options thrown in for good measure like they did on the PS3 with BC games. IIRC some of the original Xbox games were pretty advanced for their time and actually supported VGA resolutions so would look pretty decent anyway... pretty sure Crimson Skies did for example...

That's not to say I wouldn't love to see Crimson Skies 2 for instance but that would take a serious investment and commitment from a publisher whereas once MS develops some sort of emulator many games can be made to work with relatively little work.

Re: Microsoft's Thank You Gift For NXOE Preview Program Users Is...

stylon

@flameboy84 We all knew what we were getting into but when Microsoft themselves announce they've got "something special" lined up to reward preview program members then it does kind of create a false expectation... would have been better if it had just arrived in our inboxes as a surprise without any fanfare.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone (Xbox One)

stylon

@Anthinator Thanks - my situation isn't helped much by the fact that the game saved my progress just before the fight when I hadn't replenished my stocks for a while so I'm low on bombs, haven't oiled my blades or anything. Can't even meditate because as soon as my save loads the fight starts. Will have to persevere

Re: Forza Motorsport 6 Gets Hideable Microtransactions

stylon

In the case of Forza these MT's do no harm whatsoever and are completely unnecessary for all but the most impatient of gamers so I've got no issue at all with them. They're a bit like the time saver things they have for Assassins Creed for people that want to get to the good stuff quickly which I also have no problem with.

It's stuff like Battle Islands and Frozen that really get my goat - games that have been designed to be virtually unplayable unless you repeatedly dig deep into your pocket.

Re: Review: Need for Speed (Xbox One)

stylon

Tried this for free as part of my EA Access benefits and quickly came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me. Might look it up again when it appears in the vault but I won't be getting it otherwise. Very disappointing.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighty

stylon

@sorethumbed Cheers, I'm playing it on Veteran... and it's making me not want to play it any more... think I'll drop it down a notch to hardened.

@Captain_Chao5 Overall I'm finding it all a little bland compared to last years outing so I can't hand on heart recommend it myself, maybe if I get further into the campaign it'll improve but I keep finding myself going back to AC... YMMV

Re: Review: Rise of The Tomb Raider (Xbox One)

stylon

Great review and hopefully much more aligned to what I believe my own view of the game will be rather than the skewed one I've just read on another popular UK gaming site. Appreciate the way you handled the exposition of the card system (and MT's) and that it hasn't been allowed to taint your opinion of the rest of the game.

Can't wait to get my hands on this!
