Re: Xbox One Elite Controller Retail Supplies "Limited"

stylon

@BAMozzy You can program them to be 'unassigned' so I've created one preset where they're just that. You seem to basically be able to configure absolutely everything any way you want so no matter what you want to do you should be able to do it. Got the charging stand/base coming tomorrow

20 months... I would hope it would last me for the life of my Xbox! I've still got my 'Day One' controller and although it creaks it still works perfectly. You must be brutal with yours!

Re: Xbox One Elite Controller Retail Supplies "Limited"

stylon

@BAMozzy Nice little review and I pretty much agree with all you've said - it feels like a quality, well made device and certainly gives the impression it should last a lifetime.

I do have issues with the paddles - I found I quite often pressed them unintentionally whilst I was playing AC Syndicate last night. They fall right under your fingers and don't require much pressure to operate so it's inevitable I suppose. I might remove them until needed or see if I can create a profile where they are disabled for general gaming use. Not really tried what's possible with the software yet other than to give my controller a name!

Re: Activision Acquires Candy Crush Creator

stylon

I can't get my head around this one. $6 billion for Candy Crush!!! Ignoring the ridiculous amount of money that is for a crappy mobile game... surely that game's popularity has peaked and will soon decline into oblivion like all the other flash in the pan mobile gaming fads? Regardless, they'll have to rake in a hell of a lot of micro-transactions from Kings' portfolio of games before they see a profit on that acquisition!

Re: Review: Guitar Hero Live (Xbox One)

stylon

I got into the older Guitar Hero games quite easily and was able to strum away quite proficiently to my favourite tunes... This new fangled guitar with the 6 buttons has really spoiled my fun... can't get my fingers to co-ordinate with what's on the screen. The white and black colours don't help either... wish they had used up and down arrows.

Whatever... the game is no fun unless you feel you are actually playing the guitar and I no longer seem to be able to get that with this new version. If I'd wanted to have to work at 'playing' a tune I would have got Rocksmith instead and learned to play a guitar for real! Regretting my purchase now.

Re: Initial Backwards Compatibility List of 100 Xbox 360 Titles Will Be Announced on November 11th

stylon

@Captain_Chao5 Just checked CEX and mine is worth about £50 (I think - there's multiple versions listed). I've got the 500GB one... thought it would be worth more to be honest... but it's more the clutter I want rid of... I've got too much kit under the TV, 360, Xbox One, PS4, Sky box, Blue Ray player, Apple TV, Wii, WiiU, Surround sound amp plus two HDMI switchers and a TOSLink switcher to get all that stuff to work with my TV. I Just want the TV, Xbox One, PS4, WiiU and Sky box so I don't need any switch boxes and all the mess of cables that goes with it. #firstworldproblem lol

Re: Review: Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (Xbox One)

stylon

A good read and review... glad you didn't spoil the 'surprise', can't wait to find out what that is!

I think more than anything the fact the game is set in Victorian London is the biggest draw and excitement factor for me, especially as I'm fascinated by that period of our history too. I guess readers from other locales will view it as 'just another AC game', which I may well have done if it was set in Japan or similar.

I'm just refreshing the UPS tracking page like a mad man now, waiting for my copy to be delivered. Can't wait!

Re: Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass Announced and "Detailed"

stylon

Such a crying shame... this could have been such an awesome game if they'd invested time in creating a proper story driven single player campaign. The graphics and sound effects are terrific but they took the lazy option and just gave us bots to play against which simply sucks.

If that Season Pass happens to add a SP Story then I'm in - otherwise I think @sorethumbed absolutely has the right idea... just wait for it to be free in the Vault next year

Re: Review: Transformers: Devastation (Xbox One)

stylon

@crippyd It's a terrific game, probably the best transformers game I've ever played to be honest... really is like a playable episode of the cartoon from when I was a kid. However I bought it on Friday and completed it on Saturday so that part of the review is spot on... there are loads of challenge modes and you have to complete the entire game as each different transformer too so there's a lot of replay value. I tried to do some videos of it but for some reason they were recording with no sound so I gave up...

Re: Free-to-Play Battle Islands Launches on Xbox One

stylon

Too late lol - downloaded it and gave it a go... enjoyed it for about 20 minutes and then I ran out of money (and gold) and couldn't train up any more soldiers so basically game over. Every single thing is on a timer and you have to pay gold to make it instantaneous. They should have stripped that mechanic out and charged a £5 for the complete game it and it probably would have done well. As for me, I won't be going back to it - game over indeed.

Re: Free-to-Play Battle Islands Launches on Xbox One

stylon

I don't mind the odd micro transaction here and there and would probably spend a couple of quid occasionally on them for mobile/console games I like. However, more often than not the prices of them are so outrageous that hell would have to freeze over before I bought them. This sounds like another example... who in their right mind would pay £65 on virtual gold for a game like this??? No doubt it won't go far and you could find yourself shelling out for another and another... I'd rather pay £3/£30 for the game and be done with it.

Re: Rainbow Six: Siege Will Not Feature a Campaign Mode

stylon

Totally agree with the sentiments echoed above. I absolutely loved the previous 2 Rainbow 6 Vegas games and was looking forward to getting stuck into the campaign again with this new one.

Having heard this news I wouldn't even play it if it was offered to me for free. Terrorist Hunt was a pretty dull affair in the previous games. I'm not brilliant at online shooters so these type of games are all about the SP campaign for me so this offering is an 'Epic Fail' in my eyes...

Re: Talking Point: Now That Rare Replay is on the Shelves, Which Other Compilations Would You Like to See?

stylon

I'd like to se all the original PS1 Tomb Raider games come across complete with achievements... the proper PS1 style games mind - not the Anniversary edition style.

The 3 Populous games too (2 Amiga and the PC/PS1 'The Beginning'). Really miss those games..

Oh and the Monty Mole games and Thing on a Spring - classics, but they must have the authentic Rob Hubbard soundtracks

Re: Review: The Deer God (Xbox One)

stylon

Dear god this game is absolutely appalling... after 15 minutes of running across some sort of Minecraft-like 2D landscape I was absolutely bored to tears. Watching paint dry is more entertaining.

I'm glad I didn't earn any achievements during those 15 minutes - allowed me to delete it without a second thought. At least next months offering will be better - couldn't possibly be any worse!

Re: Review: Bridge Constructor (Xbox One)

stylon

It would definitely benefit from some more polish, some different locations - even some different coloured materials would help break things up. However I still find it incredibly addictive, especially figuring out how to get the big fuel tanker across all my wacky constructions!

I hope they bring the medieval sequel to the Xbox too. By the way, screenshot 2 looks exactly like my solution, great minds think alike

Re: Rumour: Microsoft Planning Disc-less Xbox One Mini Console

stylon

I'd buy one as a second console. 95% of my games are digital and all my new TV, Film and Music purchases have been too for several years.

A couple more years down the line and I'd be happy to buy one as my only console. Physical media has had its' day in our household and as time passes we have less and less legacy stuff that needs a physical reader to access it.

Re: Out Today: Bridge Constructor (Xbox One)

stylon

The presentation of this is pretty lack-lustre (you build bridges almost in total silence) but I'm finding it pretty addictive all the same. Definitely has that 'just one more attempt' before I turn it off quality.

Re: Review: Beyond Eyes (Xbox One)

stylon

Agree totally with this review - I finished this a couple of days ago and enjoyed every minute of it... it's one of those games that is hard to stop playing while it lasts - definitely a bit of an emotional rollercoaster...

What I find incredible, is that my wife, who knows nothing about the game whatsoever, asked me if the character was blind after seeing me playing it for a minute or so. Full credit is due to the developer for this and nailing what it must appear like to experience life without sight.

Having said all that - an option (unlockable after you finish only) to be able to run (or play as Rae's friend maybe - would have been very welcome to go after the stuff needed for the achievements...

Re: Review: Tachyon Project (Xbox One)

stylon

Really enjoying this at the moment and I have to admit I actually like the checkpoint system. As much as I enjoy retro gaming - that doesn't extend to restarting a level from the beginning when you die - I just don't have the same level of patience as I used to!

The music is terrific too

Re: Review: Spectra (Xbox One)

stylon

Wish you could just buy the soundtrack - it's amazing (I've loved chip music since the 80's).

Review is spot on though... feels more like a time killing demo to occupy you while you listen to the music rather than a game...

Re: First WRC 5 Gameplay Footage Slides Into View

stylon

This looks very promising - I've not played a decent rally game for a long time (there are none at all on the One either). Hope it turns out to be good as the WRC games have been a bit crap in recent years. I miss the Colin McRae rally games... wish someone would do a HD remake of those... at least we had a driver capable of winning a rally back then too...

Re: Review: F1 2015 (Xbox One)

stylon

Ouch - harsh review. I can't speak for the multiplayer but I've been having a blast in the single player. I'm actually glad they got rid of the career... I've always hated the cringe worthy career modes in racing games ever since they introduced it in TOCA Race Driver... I just want to race as my favourite driver for my favourite team. Obviously I've not been playing it looking for faults but I can't say I've noticed any of the SP glitches you've mentioned so far and I'm half-way through my championship and have done all the time trials and quite a few quick races.

Agree about the screen-tearing though which is a shame on a next gen game but it's only really noticeable on the GameDVR replays afterwards. The omission of the safety car is odd too. However the weather effects are tremendous, racing in the wet looks, sounds and feels really convincing and I think they've totally nailed the handling of the cars when using a controller too.

The only significant disappointment for me is the lack of the classic tracks and drivers that we had in the 2013 edition. I'd give it a 7/10 personally for the SP side of things.

Re: Played Forza Before? You'll be Rewarded in Forza Motorsport 6

stylon

@Red620Ti Yeah the whole buying cars thing is a massive drag - I spent a good hour last night adding cars to my FH2 garage... all the animations, loading and saving malarkey really got on my tits after a while... only the slow but steady progress of the snapped achievement % completion bar kept me going.

Re: Prototype Biohazard Bundle shape shifts way to Xbox One Today

stylon

Very strange for these to just show up out of the blue with no fanfare or anything.

Are these games any good? Worth picking up if you've never played them before? All I know about them is that (I think) they're similar to Infamous...

Agree with above comment too... for £40 I'd expect these to both be re-mastered versions and not just 360 games running in BC mode (or similar).

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Patch 1.07 To Give Geralt New Moves

stylon

Glad they've finally addressed the issues with the inventory that I've moaned about before and the player stashes will be a godsend. I'll finally be able to keep all my special Witcher outfits and weapons safe instead of having to burden myself carrying them around everywhere. Alas this comes a bit too late for me though as I've pretty much finished the game now bar a few of the more esoteric achievements. No doubt it will prove useful for the upcoming DLC in October though
