Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Summer Game Fest 2024 Showcase?

I found the show to be highly enjoyable, a significant improvement over last year's VGA. It progressed swiftly and valued the viewer's time. There were some impressive games showcased, such as Cuffbust, Once Human, Cairn, Metaphor, the new Lego game, and Warhammer Space Marine 2, all of which looked fantastic. However, the highlight for me was Nightdive Studios' remaster of The Thing. I can't think of a more suitable studio to bring a horror classic to contemporary platforms.

@NEStalgia Indeed, the introduction of X86 architecture to the latest generation of consoles marked a significant shift away from traditional console gaming. This move was intended to simplify game development, but it's unclear what became of that promise. Perhaps it was overshadowed by the industry's focus on releasing remakes and remasters of older games, or maybe it was lost amidst other pressing demands.

@NEStalgia Many developers, aside from Nintendo, Namco, and Sega, appear focused on advancing the latest and most advanced technology, despite knowing that less than 10% of the market can afford it. This approach often caters only to the most hardcore PC enthusiasts who are indifferent to the steep prices, resulting in a subpar experience for the majority. Consequently, they are perplexed when their games do not sell 20 million copies on the launch weekend. They are so engrossed in their "art studios," playing with the cutting-edge technology just because it exists, that they fail to recognize their actual market. Consequently, I am decidedly against purchasing any Xbox or Playstation hardware in the future, with the possible exception of a controller. Why waste the money ?

WTF moment of the week goes to Ninja Theory and Hellblade 2. I've enjoyed every Ninja Theory game so far and am excited to put on some headphones for Senua's next journey—I'm definitely a fan. Moving on, Ninja Theory tweeted, "Our game camera is anamorphic with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, which means there will be letter-boxing on the average display." So, it appears I need to buy the game, supply the internet connection, wait for patches to fix issues, and even get a new monitor for the proper display experience.

Re: With A 'PS5 Pro' Now Rumoured For 2024, Where Does That Leave Xbox?

old-dad

It is only a problem on the internet. Xbox spent the last 10-12 years not having any games beside Halo,Gears and Forza. A more powerful console will not change that perception. Just my opinion but they should continue focusing on GOOD games,
experiences and stop trying to out PC the PC market. It is a losing business plan for consoles.

Re: Poll: How Often Do You Buy Games That Have Been 'Remade' Or 'Remastered'?

old-dad

I have dipped many times over the year but I draw the line with Resident Evil. I have bought every new, re-release or remaster for the Dreamcast, Gamecube, Wii and Xbox 360, Xone. At this point I believe Capcom owes me copies RE1,2,3 and 4

Day one purchase for a Code Veronica re-make or whatever will be the next version of the game.

@HonestHick Physical media is dead on Xbox and they helped kill it plain and simple. That is what they wanted in 2013 and nothing changed.
Say what you will about Sony or Nintendo almost all of their games are shipped complete and ready to be played day 1 without a patch of 50gb because they simply chose to use a 25gb disc.
