I guess I need to pay closer attention to what’s going on in Forza Horizon 5… I’ve been playing since day one and didn’t even realize there was a lab for original content. I just happily drive around the main island doing the events.
My rule is that if a developer is withholding access then it’s highly overrated and they’re trying to manipulate the system. I’m calling score manipulation.
@Sifi Rebranding has a psychological effect that should be taken into consideration and can either help or hurt the business. In my case, the brand Xbox Live holds significance to me due to my engagement with it in late high school and college. The timing is unfortunate because this month I’ve been actively reassessing, which subscription services I want to maintain moving forward. In changing the name, Microsoft has given me a solid reason to add Xbox to my chopping block because the branding will no longer be present and therefore any nostalgic value is inherently lost. My post is a reflection on the subjectively poor timing and significance of branding.
Not doing it. I’ve been trimming my expenses and Xbox Live is something that I’ve had since practically day one. To see it go away while not surprising is certainly disappointing. I’ll probably resubscribe at some point down the line, but for now it’s time to move on.
It’s been a wild 20 years watching Xbox grow with him. All I can say is: good luck, have fun. He’s spent so much time working that it’s time to enjoy life a bit.
@Krzzystuff I’d generally agree, except she’s advocating Democratic (party) ideologies to the US House of Representatives, which means she’s basically speaking before the Republican party. It’ll be an uphill battle as the republicans will try to railroad her into a corner that she’s stifling innovation.
Been there, done that. The FTC and Microsoft had an entire week to present their cases, and to the knowledge of the courts both sides were forthcoming and presented all information in an open honest manner. To appeal the FTC would need to present that there was a material error, not just that they don’t like the verdict. Next please.
I’m not exactly surprised by the mixed reviews. You either love classic wrestling games like WWC vs. NWO or you preferred the EA branch of WWF. There really isn’t an in between since they’re very different games.
I’m all for live service games, but a 3 year game window is not sufficient to justify trusting them in future iterations. They should’ve taken some launch notes from Overwatch 2.
Either my taste in games has changed or we’re in a drought of legitimately good games. The past few months I’ve been rotating between Minecraft, Monster Hunter (World and Rise), Wild Hearts, and Forza Horizon 5. I just added Diablo IV to my rotation, but I haven’t seen any games over the past couple months that are truly “I want that day one” other than maybe Forza Motorsport.
I’m kind of surprised this wasn’t developed with crossplay and console releases pre-planned. This seems like the type of game that would greatly benefit from the additional accessibility. Why end at 16-players though? By my count there are 1-million bugs for every trooper. They should totally expand to 64 player survival… make it the largest survival defense game around with bugs swarming. Total mayhem.
I think we have a chance that MS and Activision will ignore the CMA and merge anyways then leave the UK market. It used to be the best market for both companies to cross the Atlantic to all Europe because of the English language and easy communication, but that gateway into the EU is dead following Brexit. I’ll sit here with my popcorn and enjoy the fireworks as people jump ship to EU accounts.
Why are there dramatic color differences between the three versions? Also, I really don’t understand why the Xbox Series X draw distance is so poor compared to the PC version. I know this is nitpicking and in-game I don’t really care, but it’s perplexing.
Didn’t they already start taking real money transactions to unlock characters? This feels like a serious ripoff. Just keep the beta as is and announce a major reboot coming early next year with a roadmap… like FFXIV.
I dunno about GOTY. The graphics engine is dramatically overhauled, but it’s still just Diablo. The game doesn’t revolutionize anything meaningful about the Isometric Action RPG. It’s fun and I’ll probably sink a good 300 hours or more into the game like I did every other Diablo game, but for me it’s like visiting a home with a new coat of paint. If anything it’s a step back from the predecessors since it’s no longer possible to match make with other players for playing through the story… not a fan of just bumping into other players and hoping we’re doing the same thing.
Encouraging Sony to develop a Call of Duty competitor is surprisingly anti-consumer. I never liked how gamers are spread out across multiple platforms and believe there should be more uniformity on content. Having games like Call of Duty and Diablo be crossplay is important to me. Redfall being an Xbox console exclusive is frustrating. That and Sea of Thieves should be multi-platform with crossplay.
While I want this deal to go through, I am concerned about future control over the franchises that Microsoft will exert.
Initially I was disappointed, but after thinking about it I realized that I may like it more than the Hot Wheels expansion because I like the down to earth races more than fantasy.
This statement is loaded. “3 years after the current agreement” - when does the current agreement end? What are the details of the two agreements? Is the current agreement regarding exclusive content/skins/modes/demos/tests or is it a blanket agreement for keeping the game on the console?
As far as I can tell, the agreement is X+3 regarding keeping extra/exclusive content on the console. Sony needs to take the loss and move on, they have their fair share of exclusives and studios that they’ve acquired over the years.
@uptownsoul It’s the work of editorialization. Though not necessarily far fetched considering that Starfield and Redfall are both Xbox exclusives, which I single out simply because of their high profile nature. In the context provided, it doesn’t seem like they discuss future games - only pre-existing. I don’t feel like reading through 27 pages, but my gut tells me there are loopholes where they could pull an exclusivity on unannounced games or franchises.
While FH1 was my favorite game, my favorite maps are a coin flip between 2 and 3. I enjoyed the views in FH2, but really enjoyed the biomes in 3. I liked the seasonal changes in FH4, but I didn’t feel it was as exciting as any of the other games in the series.
Must haves are a matter of perception. I wouldn’t classify any Activision title as a must have. They sell well, but if Activision didn’t exist it wouldn’t matter because at the end of the day we’d still have hundreds of similar titles. One could argue that their titles are successful because of good marketing campaigns. Call of Duty is a one hit wonder, Blizzard games ride on the developer’s storied history despite many devs moving on to other companies, and since they practically disbanded Toys For Bob - they don’t have any other games in development.
I hope Bandai implements crossplay this time around. The game looks fun, but too often the player count on their games is spread thin across too many platforms.
I’ll side with you on this. As an early adopter, my Xbox One is still alive and ticking while my original Xbox lost access to DLC ages ago and my Xbox 360 died after its 5th year. I totally supported Microsoft’s efforts to bring the Xbox to the living room with the pass through HDMI for cable boxes, built-in TV guide, and native Kinect support. Another feature that was never fully embraced is the second screen connectivity, lots of respect for EA with Battlefield and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare taking advantage of that feature to give commanders and edge in the fight.
