Diablo 4 Could Be Shaping Up As Another 2023 GOTY Contender

Didn’t have much experience with Diablo prior, as it just wasn’t my type of game (did play some Diablo III), but played it pretty extensively both weekends. It’s definitely a lot of fun with friends and I will be buying it for sure. There are a couple of classes which suit my play style and made it very enjoyable. I think many people will be drawn to this game, including players new to the series.

This is Blizzard's best game in 19 years. Calling it a goty contender isnt exactly a hot take.

I only played the first beta and I had a great time. Server issues were a thing on the Friday but that got better as the weekend progressed.

I did keep an eye on the full open beta to see how folks got on with the necro & druid (op af & weak as far as I can see.). Still looking forward to trying both in June.

I am bit skeptical about the mmo lite approach they have taken. Mainly as I am not sure how this will play out in the end game with group required world bosses being a thing.

I think it's probably best to be a bit skeptical about the mtx until we see actual details and a few months have gone by after the launch. Given Blizzards history recently and even with the devs reassurances that it will be cosmetics i remain on the fence on this issue.

Even so I don't regret my preorder (which is something I rarely do) and I am very much looking forward to the launch.

I rated just the beta 8/10 but agree this might be up there as a GOTY in what is a very stacked year gaming wise (assuming the other big hitters actually released too.)

Had to wait 50 minutes to log on on Friday night, played it for a bit, it was pretty good, won't be rushing to pre-order, but I enjoyed what I played

Never played diablo..unless I did when I was younger lol....but think I may buy this with my reward points that where going to go towards kill the suicide squad

The talk of long queues put me off trying it. But tbh I’m almost definitely buying it day 1 anyway.

It was great overall and with just a few issues. I only played one class to level 25 which was the max in the beta the but the build potential seems fantastic. Can't wait for the full release and trying all the classes.

It wasn't without issues however. Some dungeons had lots of dodgy collision with invisible areas blocking the player. Some missing assets here and there. Some pretty bad rubber banding at times. Some very strang monster spawns.

Not sure if the next couple of months will be enough time in the oven for the polish we've come to expect of blizzard. The core game seems very solid which is good news.

Gamepass for sure if the ABK merger goes through.

Being a full priced game with a paid battled pass, real cash store, and paid expansions, kinda kills any value for me though. Hell, it doesn't even properly support official Microsoft peripherals like the chat pad.

Barring Gamepass, maybe once it is $20-$30.

Never played a Diablo game before but was sneaking off the whole weekend and hogging the TV in the evenings to play it. Having withdrawal symptoms already now...

The first hour or maybe even 90 minutes were VERY slow. Once you get rolling with some skills the game is great. Story wise, this is much better than Diablo has had in awhile.

It is 25 years old dungeon crawler concept, Part 4 with a hugh amount of repetitive gameplay. No offense but I don‘t understand the hype.

Like a few others, I've never played Diablo before and enjoyed it. Looked at some pre-order deals and passed for now. I played solo though and wonder if I would feel differently if I had tried out the co-op

@R1spam It’s a game that is way more fun with friends. I had a good solo experience in the beta but will play with buddies when game launches.

I loved playing the Necro because I felt powerful. But with Blizzard a 100% when I feel that they nerf the class till it's no longer fun.

I dunno about GOTY. The graphics engine is dramatically overhauled, but it’s still just Diablo. The game doesn’t revolutionize anything meaningful about the Isometric Action RPG. It’s fun and I’ll probably sink a good 300 hours or more into the game like I did every other Diablo game, but for me it’s like visiting a home with a new coat of paint. If anything it’s a step back from the predecessors since it’s no longer possible to match make with other players for playing through the story… not a fan of just bumping into other players and hoping we’re doing the same thing.

I didn't play the story much at all, saving it for June. I did level each class. It's pretty good. There's definitely a lot of meat on the bone.

My only real concern is the side dungeon layouts and objectives. These will be main end game activities and they were fairly basic and repetitive. Exploring the overworld felt great though, even with other players around. I wish we could have had access to mounts.

Druid and barb were slower but not weak by any means if you experimented a bit. Not all classes were equal in D2 either and it was just fine.

It got its hooks in me, in a way D2 did 20+ years ago (D3 was good not great), I kept thinking I was done and coming back to try one more thing over both weekends. I can't wait to get the whole enchilada in June to really sink my teeth into. I'm hungry now

It was a blast, but my expectation is that it will hit Game Pass this year!

@grumpypotato you can skip dialogue, hold B. There will be mounts. You can choose which ring to replace by pressing Y to compare then holding Y to change which slot you're comparing.

My wife and I played this a fair bit over the weekend. We played a fair bit of Diablo 3 over the years. Definitely feels like a solid evolution of the series.

I'm sure this is because it was the beta but the steam wore out around Sunday evening. We'd got our first choice classes (Druid & Sorcerer) to 25 the night before and then started up a second choice classes (Necromancer and Rogue) but didn't get much further than 15. My wife preferred Sorcerer over Rogue (which she played D3 Demon Hunter style). I enjoyed both Druid and Necromancer. The game makes you feel really powerful, Werebear is an incredible experience. I played corpse explosion Necro which was powerful but a little basic.

Good game but we're not sure it's a day one for us. It likely will be, we could do with another game to play other than Sea of Thieves.

Friday night was tough trying to get in. After that, it was ok though. I did play until I reached level 20, just in case I end up buying the game so I can get the wolf pup backpack. But, still not sure. Not crazy about the top down look. It just seems like I am spamming one or two buttons over and over again with no real skill involved.

I have very little experience with Diablo, only played a little bit of Diablo 3. I think this game is okay. Not bad, it's actually really fun to play mindlessly while listening to a podcast, since it's so easy it's basically anti-Dark Souls... but I wouldn't spend full price on Diablo IV. Hopefully the ABK deal will go through by June and I won't have to.

Little early to be throwing game of the year contender around. Id be surprised if diablo 4 or redfall are nominated with how stacked this year is.

If this gets game of the year something very wrong has happened with the other titles coming this year.

There are currently a lot of issues with the game as well, which are unlikely to all be sorted out by launch unless something very right happens at Blizzard. That hasn't happened in any kind of recent memory so I'm going to keep my expectations tempered there.

They advertised it as being XBOX One compatible. It was barely playable in the beta test. Once out of town it wasn't too bad. I hope they can fix it because I bought it over the PC version for the couch co-op capability.

Played the open beta on Sunday. Had no server issues. Thought it was great. Instantly reminded me why I liked the previous Diablo so much.
I didn’t get to play with anybody online though which was a shame.

The only real negatives I took from it was the terrible voice acting in game (cutscenes were fine), and stilted animation during in game cutscenes.

Will be definitely picking it up at some point. Shame it’s not going to be on gamepass day 1
