To me it's mind-boggling when you see people defend 30 FPS games these days. Not talking about this game specifically, just in general. I'm thrilled to see this game freed from the awful 30fps limit, which has always hampered my enthusiasm to replay it. The fact that it is finally coming to PC is icing on the cake.
@babybilly Absolutely agree. Anyone calling it "barebones" is being disingenuous at best. It's one of the meatiest "remasters" ever made I would say... completely new graphics, engine and models, revamped AI, new items and weapons, redone achievements, and tons of other QoL improvements. Barebones would be like the Resident Evil 4 remaster (not the Remake) or the Red Dead 1 remaster where they literally just ported it to modern systems, increased the resolution and called it a day.
It's one of the best games ever released on the 360. The remaster made some unnecessary changes for "modern audiences" but overall it's fantastic. The QoL improvements alone make it worthwhile. It seems many people don't understand the difference between a remaster and a remake.
I'm no Pokémon fan, but it seems that the obvious solution for Nintendo would be to... release a good Pokémon game. If such a game existed, and was available on more than one platform, people wouldn't be as interested in knockoffs. That being said, unless this game directly uses Pokémon characters without permission, I don't see what Nintendo's argument is. Inspiration is not infringement.
Here's hoping that modern AI upscaling and frame generation can make the next generation the one that finally leaves abysmal 30 FPS performance in the rear-view mirror where it belongs. They should have set 60 FPS as the ground floor this generation, but maybe next gen will actually pull it off.
343's management of Halo has been so bad... I wish Microsoft would toss the keys to a different in-house developer. At the very least, 343 needs a top-to-bottom evaluation to figure out what is going on and how to fix it. The state of Halo Infinite multiplayer at launch was laughably bad, and yet some genius decided to release it early... with more focus on cosmetics than actual content.
I'll be playing it on PC, but it's stupid for it not to release on all systems. I'm sure Sony slid Konami a check to keep it off Xbox. PC is getting the best of both worlds these days with access to both Xbox and Sony's "exclusives"
I'm glad they didn't cave to people wanting the timer removed from the story mode. That's one of the defining features of the game. Also, the game does have Infinity Mode with no timer if that's more your style.
Weird to knock it for the time limit. That's one of the main features of the game, and it's what gives the story a sense of urgency. Removing that for a "remaster" would fundamentally change the game. Plus, the game has an infinity mode that has no timer.
If they brought official, native Gamepass support to handhelds like the Steam Deck, Legion Go, etc they could make a killing and not even need to produce their own hardware. An Xbox handheld would be welcome though, so long at it has acceptable performance.
If the PS5 Pro actually had a new CPU it could slightly justify its existence. The fact that it doesn't means that most sub-60 FPS games are going to remain that way, because in most cases it's a CPU bottleneck that constrains higher framerates on these consoles. You'll just get a slightly prettier 30 FPS slideshow lol. No thanks. I'll stick with my PC.
I guess it's something, for those who truly can't afford more than the Series S. Still, what a severely compromised experience this is. I mean, this is even lower resolution than VGA CRT televisions that were introducted in the late 1980's.
@StylesT No need to be so defensive. If you're OK with it, more power to you.
The good news is that this generation should be the end of lousy framerates. The next generation of consoles will have much better upscaling as well as frame generation tech.
@Jenkinss It's not about the fact that it outperforms it, it's the fact that it can't produce a decent framerate. Even the Series X has to destroy the visuals to hold 60.
Oh wow... 35 FPS. Amazing! Yet another game I'll be playing on PC. I had hope at the beginning of this generation of consoles that 30 FPS would be a thing of the past. The hardware is capable, but developers insist on pumping the visuals, and don't properly optimize the games.
@GuyinPA75 Ah, more insults... how surprising, lol. You need to learn that you can disagree with people without insulting them. I'm not insulting you for being OK with 30 FPS for example. Resorting to insults is typically what you do when you have nothing to add to a debate. Look how many of your previous comments have been deleted for that very reason.
@GuyinPA75 Calling people hipsters for having a different opinion, and saying they're "crying" is in fact insulting them. Sure, we played 30fps as kids because we essentially had no choice. People also rode in horse and buggies before cars were available, but I doubt many would want to go back. For me, 60 FPS is the ground floor. If a game can't sustain 60 or better, I'm not playing it. That's a big part of the reason I've become a PC player these days, where you have a choice between visuals and framerate, and can upgrade as you wish.
@GuyinPA75 This is research you can do on your own but, the basic idea is two-factor:
1. Videogames are active, film is passive. You don't interact with a film, you simply observe it. One of the core problems with low framerates in games is poor interaction. A game that is only polling input 24 times a second would feel awful to play for example.
2. Film is captured via a shutter, at a certain shutter speed, whereas game frames are rendered instantaneously. In short this means that a film frame has perfect, natural motion blur that helps it remain fluid, while game frames do not. A game has to make up for this by having more frames, or it looks jarring and unnatural as it moves from frame to frame. Gaming motion blur attempts to solve this problem but it's only a bandaid.
I suggest you do some reading on the topic on your own as it is quite interesting. But again, viewing a film and a videogame side-by-side with both running at 24 FPS should make this issue quite obvious. You should also not resort to insulting people who disagree with you.
I'm sorry, but it's 2024. I'm not playing anything at 30 FPS, and I haven't for several years. This was the primary reason I have primarily become a PC player these days.
@anoyonmus Exclusives are a lame way to sell consoles. It should be about having the best user experience and hardware. These days, they're starting to learn this which is why we're seeing a ton of PS exclusives on PC now.
The gigantic climate change segment in the middle, sponsored by Tencent of all people, was very, very cringe. Don't get me wrong, I'm no climate change denier, but there's a time and a place.
@anoyonmus I'll never understand why anyone cares about exclusivity. Does it harm us that it's also going to be on Playstation? We need less exclusive games on all platforms, not more.
For me it's Dead Rising 1, and it's not even close. That game was so far ahead of its time. I loved the humor and creativity of it and personally I feel like that slowly fell off with each new entry. Of course, it's also hard to beat TJ Rotolo as Frank West.
@TJ81 I'm actually glad it's a remaster. This game deserves to be modernized and preserved. Hopefully, if it's successful it could lead to a new game being made.
Unsurprising given the state the game was released in. I mean... a litany of fixes were deployed within the first few weeks, which to me says that the game should have been delayed at least a few weeks. You only get one chance to make a first impression after all. I'm sad that it failed, and for everyone that lost their jobs, but releasing busted games shouldn't be acceptable.
@TJ81 Speak for yourself. Myself and many others thoroughly enjoyed this game. I also consider Carpenter's The Thing to be my favorite horror movie of all time. I'm very happy to see it being modernized because it's not very accessible currently.
Sorry but if Japanese gamers supported Xbox it wouldn't be this way. The fact is that Japanese gamers prefer Japanese consoles. Microsoft will probably never make any headway there.
At the end of the day Microsoft is a business, and businesses exist to make money. Hifi Rush was moderately successful but not a big money maker while Redfall was an absolute disaster. With the gaming market the way it is today it's hardly surprising that they are trimming the fat so to speak. It's unfortunate, but it's reality. I agree with others that there are other problematic studios under Microsoft that need restructuring or closure as well, such as 343 who have repeatedly dropped the ball with Halo.
A portable option would be fine, but only if there is also a traditional console option. I have a Steam Deck for example... wonderful device, but it in no way can replace my gaming PC. It's just a nice accessory.
This Dusk Golem guy has been around for years and most of the time it just seems like he is guessing. Constantly refutes his own claims and gets stuff wrong. Not to mention if he is in fact legit then that means he's in a position of trust at Capcom and routinely betrays that trust for internet cred. Either way, not a guy I put much stock in.
@GamingFan4Lyf I definitely noticed poor performance even back then. For example Starcraft on PC versus Starcraft on N64 we used to joke about how horrid the framerate was. I agree that developers are free to make what they want obviously, but the only reprisal they'll get from me if they're 30 FPS is that I won't purchase their games. Also, again I'll say that what was acceptable back then isn't acceptable today. It would be like going back to a 1990s PC today... sure it was fine back then, but it isn't fine today.
@GamingFan4Lyf No one complained that horses and buggies were slower than cars until cars came along lol. What was acceptable decades ago isn't acceptable now.
