The first REmake still stands as my favorite remake of all time.

Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate. One of the best fighting games of all time that still holds up today. Back in 2004, it was tops, imo. DoA 2 on the Dreamcast was already a fantastic game but the graphic overhaul made it even better. For the time, too, it was packed with plenty of unlockables that, these days, you have to pay $5+ to get.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition was not a remake, it was a remaster. BIG difference between the two. Halo CE was also not a remake, but a remaster. A remake is RE4 or Dead Space 2023. A remaster was the original Resident Evil. I'm not sure a lot of gamers are understanding the difference between the two.

Resident Evil, the 2002 remake for GC and later ported to other consoles.

Gears Ultimate Edition will always be my favorite Remake/Remaster ever.. I have over 285 days of playtime in that game..

Resident 4 remake for me on series x.
However I prefer developers to spend all resources and time on making new games rather than remakes and remasters.
I play a lot of Switch and they have so many remakes and remasters over the years but they do release the big new games as well.
Though their 2024 to summer release schedule is very remake city and probably to much being honest.

I consider Gears Ultimate Edition a remake personally. Every single asset in the game was remade except the voice over work. And as much as I loved RE4 remake and Dead Space remake, I prefer Gears over both of those games so Gears Ultimate squeaks by with the win for me.

It is, I guess, debatable whether Gears of War was a Remaster or a Remake. Google will tell you that is a Remaster. However, on the Xbox, they added in the Brumak fight, which though on the PC version of the original, it was not on the 360 version. That may elevate the game from a Remake to a Remaster on its own. Other than the graphical overhaul, I'm not sure much was changed. I happened to play through the game last week, and in comparison to the Gears 4 and 5 , it looks pretty rough, truth be told, and I speak as someone for whom Gears of War is my absolute favourite franchise (and I include Tactics in the equation). It is a series of games that I often replay (indeed, last week I went through Judgement, GoW1, 2, and 3 with a friend. And we are currently in the early part of 4).

So, with all that said, if we do consider Gears of War Ultimate Edition to be a Remaster, then I guess that would be my favourite.

If not, then it would have to be Dead Space. A game and franchise that I love. I was more than happy to dive back into it, and I thought that EA did a superb job with it. I can only hope that they give similar care and attention to DS2 as well (and then maybe give us a new and alternative DS3, as whilst I enjoyed the original game, it was not to the same standard as the previous two)...

Not a fan of remakes but REmake (the first one) it's an exception to the rule. Didn't like any of the others.

I've enjoyed many remakes over the years, but RE4 is definitely my favorite.

Mass Effect Trilogy, Mafia 1 Definitive Edition and LEGO Skywalker Saga are the remakes I enjoyed a lot.

They are remakes, period. If want to make a fantastic sequel? Well, then welcome to GOTY discussions.

Sonic Origins is technically a collection of remakes because the 16-bit games were remade. I consider that a game is remastered when they use the original code, sometimes expanding or upgrading it, and polish the graphics by improving the graphical assets and effects, like The Last of Us Remastered. Everything else are ports even when they are expanded like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Technically, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary are remakes. I think that this is the way it is, but it's not really that important. The important distinction is "reimagining" because it's just different and sometimes ruins the original game like Goldeneye 007 (2010).

The 360 Goldeneye 007 Remake that got canned like a month before release.

I'd say Spyro Reignited if that now counts as well as THPS 1+2.

Microsoft needs to make THPS 3+4 happen now that they own Activision.

Can't think of a single one that I personally thought was worth the effort.

Yakuza kiwami 1 and Yakuza kiwami 2 are the only remakes that I enjoyed that's also out on xbox. Another remake I enjoyed isn't on xbox.

Mass effect trilogy gears 1 remake Alan Wake are my favorites out of the ones I played

@GuyinPA75 Not sure if the inverse is a popular opinion either, but I think remakes should absolutely be a part of GOTY conversations. Case in point, the Oscars honor movie remakes; A Star is Born has been remade twice and all three versions of that movie have been nominated, if not won awards.

To say that remakes shouldn't be part of GOTY conversations undermines how difficult it is to capture lightning in a bottle again. Those efforts should be recognized if the achievement is truly outstanding. There are a ton of remakes that miss the mark. Why not honor the ones that live up to or exceed the original?

RE 1 remake on GameCube.

Resident Evil 2 would have to get my vote. Put Remakes on the mark IMO. We should have a most useless Remake debate because LOU Remake would ABSOLUTELY be #1 on that list lol
