Re: Editor's Opinion: Give Me A Quantum Break

JaxonH

Holy crap, now THAT's an article!

"Looking over the fence constantly to see whether another person has more than you is weak sauce. The only time you should do that in life is to make sure that they have enough."

That was a mic-dropping line if I've ever seen one.

Re: Quantum Break Is Getting Its Very Own Xbox One Console Bundle

JaxonH

@Gamer83
With all due respect to Uncharted fans, Quantum Break looks WAY better than that series. Maybe I'll change my mind after U4 but, Uncharted is too grounded in realism. This game embraces the fantastical.

I know what you mean about different games. More times than not they're a bust, but Pikmin and Gravity Rush nailed it. Part of what made Pikmin so great, ironically, was how natural the game controlled with a Wiimote compared to analog. I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much otherwise (and that's why I'm concerned P4 may be on NX/3DS without motion).

Re: Quantum Break Is Getting Its Very Own Xbox One Console Bundle

JaxonH

@Gamer83
If NX can get 3rd party support, that would be great. But I've given up on that idea. I just accept having to own a minumum of 2 systems now and a Nintendo handheld (gotta have the Ninty handheld, that's one of my main gaming devices). But now, having owned all 3 consoles, I'll probably never be able to go back to just 2. Can't stand missing games I wanna play. Not even one.

Pikmin 3 was great though, I really did like that game.

Re: Quantum Break Is Getting Its Very Own Xbox One Console Bundle

@Gamer83

Never played Heavy Rain, but, Beyond was interesting. The story gripped me and the gameplay, despite having such a large focus on QTE's, was extremely fluent and well done.

I pride myself on playing virtually every genre of game (save realistic sports games or racing SIM's), provided it's good. And I gotta say, Beyond was good. To me at least.

I'm actually surprised to hear you've enjoyed games I've recommended, given I spend so much time on Nintendo platforms which you don't really play.

3 games I will peddle til I die though- Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. Gosh dang I could live off those 3 franchises alone. Speaking of which, I'll soon be blessed with 3 new Fire Emblem Fates games next Friday. If you don't hear from me for a few months, you'll know why

Re: H1Z1 Splits Into Two Games, Both Coming to Xbox One

JaxonH

@LuckyPenguin
Planning 2 separate games from the start is one thing. But planning and developing one game, then right before release splitting into 2 (and probably charging each as a full release) is another.

If they charge half price for each, I'll have nothing to say. But if not...

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighty Eight

JaxonH

@tylertreese

Incomparable. One of the best games I've ever played. At first I questioned why you couldn't get a Skell license until after Chapter 6, and the flight module after Chapter 9, but in hindsight it was the right call. Otherwise you'd never explore on foot, and once you can fly, exploration is cake. It gives you something to work towards, and once you get it you feel like you earned it.

Not to mention it only took me 35 hours to get a Skell, and I sunk another 430 hours in after that. I really did love that game though (hence the hours). You could beat the story in 50-60 hours if you wanted, but I enjoyed it so much I did all the affinity quests and tons of basic/normal missions.

It's a gem- best game the Wii U has tbh...

Re: Weirdness: Did This Kinect Sensor Just Find a Ghost?

JaxonH

@Gamer83
I think motion is only a gimmick when it's a gimmick, but not always. Pretty much everything with the Kinect, ya. And the vast majority of Wii shovelware.

But when it's done right? It beats standard controls. Metroid Prime Trilogy for example- I can jump and aim in mid air (could never do that before), can run one way and aim another, and I can aim much more quickly and accurately. It's just better in every way imaginable. That's no gimmick, that's motion being used right. Same for Pikmin 3. I couldn't stand that game with regular analogs- it just doesn't work- but with motion it's a natural fit. Same for Splatoon using gyro to help aim- so much faster than without it.

I think people have made their minds up based on all the crappy games, which is unfortunate because there are some that prove its not only not a gimmick, but superior. It's not always the answer for every game, or even most, but for some, it works.

Re: Happy New Year: Here's The List of Xbox One and Windows 10 Exclusives Due in 2016

JaxonH

Well, Scalebound is my #1 anticipated exclusive- no ifs, ands or buts.

I'm really interested in seeing what ReCore and Sea of Thieves are, but I can't really say how interested I am until I know more about them.

Gears of War 4 and Halo Wars 2 are both pretty high up my list, as is Quantum Break. And despite owning Ori & the Blind Forest I'm super stoked for the Definitive Edition.

Crackdown 3 and Fable Legends are iffy- probably more interested in Crackdown than Fable though. Idk I've looked into the Fable series and it just seems so simplified for the sake of "broad appeal", particularly with regard to Fable 3, and this new one looks to be even worse- not to mention it's free-to-play Project Spark approach.

And I just never did "get" Killer Instinct. Playing the games as a kid I just button mashed with friends who did the same lol, so it was all good fun. But I tried playing the reboot properly and I got nowhere. Just can't seem to pull off the combos, and the game is 110% reliant upon combos. Idk, maybe if they ever finish the game and sell a complete physical copy I'll bite, but $70 just for the first 2 seasons digitally is far too high a paywall to invest in a game I'm no good at.

And I haven't heard of the other 2 games...

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Holiday Break Edition

JaxonH

Xenoblade Chronicles X

I would like to make a case for XCX being the greatest game ever released. I can't really explain why in words though- it's something you truly just have to experience.

Don't let the high-volume play time scare any of you away. Just approach it like you would any other game. You won't be putting 100+ hours into it because you feel the need- you'll do it because you'll WANT to, because the game is just so good.

Seriously, anyone with a Wii U needs to buy this game. It's so far beyond anything I've ever played before. Just incredible.

Re: Review: Oyen Digital Shadow Mini SSD for Xbox One

JaxonH

A normal 1TB for $85?

That sounds like a killer deal to be had! AND it's tiny too? Oh ya. Need me some of that.

Though tbh, I know Ima need 2-4TB, even splitting games between PS4/X1. I buy exclusives ONLY on X1 (and BC 360 games of course) and I've already filled my internal, and half my external 500gb.

My PS4 has been upgraded to 2TB, and even its down to the final 300 gigs.

The only consoles I'm not stretched for space on, ironically, are Wii U (350gb left of 532gb) and 3DS (40gb left of 64gb)

Re: Here Are Your Xbox One and Xbox 360 Digital Black Friday Deals

JaxonH

Thanks for listing the BC games separately. Jumped on Beyond Good & Evil HD, and would get Mass Effect but I want retail games physically. So I just ordered the trilogy, knowing ME2 and ME3 will soon be added to the list. I'll buy all the DLC once the other 2 games are compatible (despite having ME3 on Wii U with most DLC included already).

I'm really digging this BC. Ordered Mirrors Edge and just installed Fallout 3 (WITH all 5 DLC packs mind you). And the game plays with either disc in- its amazing.

Gosh dang Phil Spencer I salute you!

Re: Zombi Gets Reanimated For Retail Release

JaxonH

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
Lol...

In the words of Dennis Hopper, "Ya know, you're like a turd that won't flush"

All jokes aside, the game was decent on Wii U. Good even. But this utter ran dry along time ago. But it seems Ubisoft didn't get the memo.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighty One

JaxonH

X1
Rise of the Tomb Raider

PS4
Fallout 4

That is all. I love me some Tomb Raider- the Definitive Edition was one of the few games that gripped me hard enough to play through to the end. So I already knew RotTR would be taking center stage.

I am managing a bit of Xenoblade Chronicles and LBX at work today though.

Thank goodness for handhelds...

Re: Review: Rise of The Tomb Raider (Xbox One)

JaxonH

@Gamer83

So I went ahead and bought the season pass, but it won't install. If I go to the in game additional content menu it says "buy for $29.99" so I click on it and it says "you already own this content- install now?" I click YES and it takes me to a blank grey screen.

If I go to the store and click on "manage" for the season pass it does the same thing- takes me to a blank grey screen.

I read multiple reports on Reddit of the same thing happening to other users- just curious if you are experiencing the same issue?

Re: First 104 Xbox 360 Titles to Support Backwards Compatibility on Xbox One Announced

JaxonH

@SuperKMx
Do you know if any version will work then? Like ok, let's say I want to buy the physical disc for Fallout 3 now. Is the GotY Edition compatible too or just the vanilla version?

And what about double and triple packs? I know many of these games were included on discs containing more than one game. Will those also work to unlock the digital download?

***EDIT
Another scenario would be like, Mass Effect. Clearly the trilogy is the way to go, but would the game being on the trilogy disc be enough to unlock the download?

A lot of questions I know...

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One)

JaxonH

Can somebody please tell me exactly how I get to this "survival mode tucked away in the campaign lobby". I didn't even know the campaign had a lobby.

I have a main menu, and I have basically like 2 real choices. Campaign, or multiplayer.

I can't even find where the zombie mode is

Re: Review: Rise of The Tomb Raider (Xbox One)

JaxonH

" you find that the game wanted you to actually make the jump right away when you were further from the landing point, which a tad illogical."

I fell at that EXACT. SAME. SPOT. Lol.

The game is utterly amazing. That is all.

@Gamer83
Any good single player content in the season pass? I know they like to include a lot of side modes and multiplayer stuff. But I'm just interested in the single player. I know it said it was going to add one tomb but I'm thinking one tomb doesn't justify $30

***EDIT
Awesome comic btw!

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighty

JaxonH

Well, I could give you my list of INTENDED games to play, but I'll just share what I ACTUALLY ended up playing this weekend. Or both.

X1
Halo 5

PS4
CoD Black Ops 2
Tales of Zesteria

Wii U
Mario Maker
Yoshis Wooly World- intended, never played

3DS
Zelda Triforce Heroes

Vita
Persona 4 Golden- intended, never played

@DRL
Impeccable taste, as always Mr Letcavage. In fact that can be said for just about all the staff here. A lot of well rounded taste.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Seventy Nine

JaxonH

@Gamer83 @Souldin
Well, I actually purposely omitted Sunset Overdrive.

It's a great game, and if you have an X1 I'd certainly recommend it, but it's not on the same level as those others IMO. More importantly, I know @sinalefa taste in games pretty well and wouldn't list a game I think he wouldn't absolutely enjoy (hence the omission of Forza 6).

His taste aligns with mine for the most part, and I don't think either of us enjoy racing SIM's. However, Forza Horizon 2 was a fantastic arcade experience that I've been trying to convince him he'd really enjoy.

Sunset Overdrive? Sure, maybe on a sale down the line, but I wouldn't prioritize it over those other master class games.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Seventy Nine

JaxonH

@sinalefa
Ok, on to the next goal- getting you an Xbox One!

It may share 95% of it's library with PS4, but the exclusives are good- Rare Replay, Ori and the Blind Forest, Gears Ultimate, Halo Masterchief Collection, Halo 5, Forza Horizon 2 and soon, all those BC exclusives like Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.

I'm sure you'll be plenty busy catching up on PS4 games for a good while though

Re: Review: Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One)

JaxonH

I'm still relatively new to Halo since this is my first Xbox system. I played half the campaign of Halo CE in the MCC though, so I do at least have a thin foundation.

Question- can I play against bots offline in the MP modes? This is something I really enjoy, and would be ecstatic if I learned this was an included feature.
