Thing is, my brother who is a DS veteran, has been helping me get goig here. I asked him and he said unlike past games, the growth is marginal at best for early stat gains to Endurance. Said it was better to raise Vigor to 20-25, raise STR/DXT a little bit, and then go back for Endurance.
Basically explained that the returns for Vigor pay higher dividends than the returns for Endurance out the gate. But of course, he said it is something I'll need- just put it on the back burner until I get my health bar up.
@DRL Thanks for those tips btw. I just beat the second boss, got a Claymore sword upgraded to +1 and a Dark Battle Axe upgraded to +2 (that axe does crazy damage too, awesome weapon but no scaling- so I'm investing in Claymore for a little later when it's upgrades will surely bring it to surpass the axe). Thing is I have to remove my helmet right now to use the claymore and keep weight under 70%.
Also used a glitch to access that area that costs 20,000 souls for the key. I hit an illusory wall and dropped down to a chest for some ring, cant remember what it does though.
Been pumping vigor, also 1pt in Faith so I could use a healing miracle (for 1pt why not, right?), and a few points in STR and DXT so I could wield the claymore and longbow. Figure having a few options is always good. I want to invest in Endurance but the returns seem so negligible... +2 per level? But man I really want some more stamina.
Having just beaten Quantum Break, here's the new spread...
PS4 Dark Souls 3 Ratchet & Clank
3DS Bravely Second Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES VC) Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES VC) Super Metroid (SNES VC)
My bro loves the series. Fave franchise of all time he says. Been begging me to get into the series for years. So I bought this game and I played through the first boss. Now, the first MINI boss, this turquoise, crystal rolling creature, killed me 4 times before I finally beat him. It was literally down the very first path to the right after starting the game.
But when I got to the real first boss- The one where you pull the sword out from him- I beat him on my first try (granted, I used all my Estus Flasks and googled how to use my firebombs against him).
The thing is I am a serious Monster Hunter veteran. I know all about counting the i-frames and how to link frames during hops when evade-lancing... I also know shield-lance, dual blade, insect glaive, hunting horn, long sword, hammer and heavy bow gun. I relish the technical madness of it all.
So my brother has always told me I would love this game if I ever tried it. And to be perfectly honest I do. But where I had a friend who helped me out when I first got into MH and played co-op, I feel like a total newbie when it comes to this game. Are there any tips or secrets or is there any advice veterans of the series can give me to help me?
There is a segment of western gamers who love JRPG's, and if they want to maximize market share, it's important to offer as broad a range of genres as possible.
BC for Tales of Vesparia and Lost Odyssey would be a cheap and effective start.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi Personally, I liked Halo 5's campaign- at least, what I've played of it. Perhaps it's because I didn't grow up on the games and haven't played all the previous entries that I don't have a higher standard to compare it to? Idk.
So the complaints have not quite resonated with me personally; however, I don't think the complaints are so much about taking issue with a focus on multiplayer, but rather an inadequate campaign to accompany it (from their pov anyways).
Ya this is a good game. To sum it up- capable gameplay (good- not great but good) mixed with one of the finest stories ever to grace the medium, and a small dose of live action with the same actors to really drive home the immersion. Very high production values.
I've heard some complaints about the live-action but honestly I thought it was exceptionally well done. Close to television quality actually. You could tell it wasn't quite that good but it was good enough.
After speaking to my brother who is a huge remedy fan it seems this was the basic blueprint of Alan Wake also- meh but capable gameplah with an extraordinary story and production values.
X1: Quantum Break 3DS: Fire Emblem Fates- Conquest
A killer tag-team duo there. Totally opposite games, on totally opposite platforms, in totally different styles (one multi-million dollar AAA budget and the other a turn based handheld title) and yet both are equally just as amazing.
@Gamer83
I get the Quantic Dream games- those are a lot of Quick Time events (although I liked Beyond also).
This seems much more middle ground imo. Very good split of gameplay and story. My brother also hails Alan Wake as one of his fave games of all time- you and him would get along great. I may play it after I finish QB, but I need to wrap up Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and run through FE Fates Revelation first and foremost.
I love how you play as the antagonist after each act to make a heavy decision, and how that decision affects the live action sequence. Not to mention the quantum ripples that affect the story. And, the story is just great. Really, really great. Probably the most enjoyable story I've ever seen in a video game. Time travel and it's implications has always interested me- and they have taken a very intriguing premise with excellent actors, good cinematography and dialog, solid gameplay heavily influenced by Infamous Second Son (which was fantastic) and mixed it all up into one of the most winning formulas I've seen in a AAA game.
I took a small intermission from my Fire Emblem Fates binge to test out the waters with Quantum Break. And.... the game is fantastic! Seriously, I'm puzzled as to why it didn't score higher. Not that an average of 78/100 is bad by ANY means, but, I feel the game is better than that. In fact, I think it's one of the best games on Xbox One- right next to Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ori & the Blind Forest.
Really impressed. It's like Infamous Second Son (which I loved btw) but more grounded in reality (if a story based on a fracture in time can be considered such). The gameplay is actually very well done and spot on. I love this game, I really do.
Oh my gosh are you guys seeing this? FINALLY a Zelda-like game that may actually be worth it's salt. Gameplay mechanics don't seem QUITE as sharp and precise, and the land areas look like Minecraft lol, but overall I'd say that game looks mighty fine indeed.
I live for experiencing all different kinds of games. This is different enough from my usual binge of Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, platformers and JRPG's that I'm confident I'll enjoy it quite a bit.
Yup. I'm hyped. This will be the year of the JRPG.
Xenoblade Chronicles X (technically Christmas 2015) Bravely Second Fire Emblem Fates (3 separate games!) Star Ocean V Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (aka Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem) Final Fantasy XV Dragon Quest VII Dragon Quest VIII Monster Hunter Generations Zelda U (not a JRPG, but this game... oh this game)
Hardly any great JRPG's on Xbox unfortunately. They need to compensate by adding BC to the 360 giants like Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.
@VanillaLake Oh ya I'm definitely happy. Only games I've bought twice was the Mega Man, Mario games and a handful of SNES titles. Besides that they have completely separate catalogs so it's not really been a major issue. I also have a New 3DS so that's not been an issue either.
I used to use a flash cart for my SNES and GBA games on handheld, but after playing Donkey Kong Country with excellent framerate and pixel perfect mode, I can't go back to the flash cart. Although I do still use it for the GBA Fire Emblem games.
As for GBA VC on 3DS, now that the New 3DS it out and can handle SNES, I expect GBA to come to VC at some point.
@VanillaLake PS4 has a lackluster VC catalog. No PSone, no PSP, and maybe a dozen PS2 games. Wii U on the other hand, I'm very happy with. NES, SNES, N64, GBA, DS, Wii... I think I have VC well into triple digits. 3DS had pretty lame VC, but then those Sega 3D Classics and new SNES really lit it up.
Vita though, Vita has an excellent catalog of PSone and PSP. Shame that's about all it has, but I'll take it.
@KelticDevil Well, only a handful of them are actually gems. And this is a genre largely ignored (actually, almost entirely ignored) by the retail release industry.
So the more they release the better for us, because probably only one out of every 30-50 are going to be an absolute gem. And I think this is definitely one of those games that is purchase worthy.
It's actually a lot more original than you give it credit for with the teleporting mechanics and puzzle solving- I can't really think of any other games of this flavor that are as good as this one is, be it retail or indie.
But even if the point was conceded concerning originality, it's not like most retail games are original yet they're still fun to play. And indies are no different. Not all of them, but the good ones certainly are (the gem indies).
I'm satisfied with BC just for being implemented, but these recent game additions, truthfully, haven't excited me.
I want some classics, aka NOT Call of Duty:
Portal 2 Blue Dragon Tales of Vesperia Lost Odyssey Star Ocean: The Last Hope Zone of Enders HD Collection Mass Effect Trilogy Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy (I've never played them and want to)
@Gamer83 I really have to thank you for convincing me to buy the season pass. I ended up absolutely loving this game- it's definitely among the best games on the Xbox One platform. And the DLC was actually really good stuff (aside from the MP content which I don't care about).
One of the few season passes/DLC I've purchased and actually gotten some play time from. Aside from this and Fire Emblem Fates, I've let so much go to waste. Fallout 4 season pass- haven't even started the game! Witcher 3 season pass- barely played a few hours of the game! Arkham Knight season pass- still haven't played the game!
That Pokken Tournament is pretty fun actually. If I wasn't sucked into this epic 3-game saga of my all time favorite series, I'd give it more attention.
I'm just kidding there, no way I'm actually playing all those games. Although I have been known to play 2 games on every system over a weekend when I get a whole slew of new releases. Besides, Street Fighter is kind of being shelved for the moment until they get some decent single player patched in.
Mostly I'm just playing Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (will follow with Conquest and Revelation) with a bit of Zelda Twilight Princess HD and Ori & the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition.
I am actually WANTING to play all those games- they're in the bullpen right now (I keep about 10-15 games lined up on the floor beneath my TV- that's "the bullpen")
X1: Ori Definitive Ed, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5 PS4: Street Fighter V, Far Cry Primal, Gravity Rush Remastered Wii U: Zelda Twilight Princess HD, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World
3DS: Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, Super Mario World, MH4U Vita: Bastion, Persona 4 Golden, Trails of Cold Steel
Gosh I love SRPG's when done right and this looks to have amazing potential!
Unfortunately I really, really dislike anything to do with the occult or demonic themes, so I think I'll have to give this a pass... Shame they couldn't have gone with a more middle-road approach
@SuperKMx @Gamer83 I really enjoyed The Last of Us. Excellent game. Pinnacle of the genre.
But, it wasn't even among the best of the generation imo, much less all time. I think I enjoyed Portal 2, Metroid Prime 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum all more than TLoU. Just to name 5 7th gen games off the top of my head. Heck I could probably name a lot more than that even...
@Utena-mobile I just wanted to share my thoughts on what you said a little.
I don't think anyone will get tired of you, as long as people don't see the complaints as way overboard. There's a clear difference between rationally explaining your concerns from time to time, and going schizo on every article, complaining about every last little thing (and that's what grates on people there, not so much erring grievances from time to time)
I don't recall the latter applying to you, though I admit I haven't seen too many posts lately
Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and oh my goodness, I don't think a more addictive pair of games exists.
I will give credit where it's due- RARELY can a game part me from my Fire Emblem, so kudos to Twilight Princess for being so strangely habit-forming. What starts off as "I'm just gonna pop it in and see how it looks, then get back to Fire Emblem" ends up as an 8 hour straight binge session lol...
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
"Well, the problem of you guys not covering AAA games is no one else writes good reviews on them!"
This is kinda true. I mean, there are obviously some sites with legit reviews, and every site has its good days and bad days, but I would definitely prefer to get an alternate perspective than just that of the PushSquare staff.
Sometimes, not always but sometimes, the personal bias of the reviewers at PS gets in the way- like the Street Fighter V review that got a 9/10 simply because the core gameplay was solid, despite all the staple single player modes missing or incomplete. I do like the site- don't get me wrong, but an alternative for reviews would be nice. I wanna be told the truth- don't say a game is a masterpiece if it's missing staple modes and features, know what I mean?
And to be clear, I don't think anyone ever INTENTIONALLY covers up for a game's shortcomings, but, everyone has different viewpoints and I would sure value a second opinion and perspective.
As usually, this article makes far too much sense.
Now, as far as the idea of upgrading in place of generational cycles, I do actually think that's a bad move. The reason console gamers (well, most anyways- the ones who don't play on PC also) game on consoles rather than PC is because they don't have to worry about things like upgrading. Now, one might say, "but the games will still play so they won't need to upgrade" and yes, that's true. But it doesn't matter. It's the idea of the console being upgradable that will scare many people off. They won't want to know the details- they'll just want a console with no strings attached.
And I think ultimately Microsoft is going to realize this. Which is why I don't think any of this will ever come to fruition.
KelticDevil "Yea people who say backwards compatability isn't a big deal are the gamers who don't have it. Cough.....PlayStation. Lol."
Lol That is actually very true. I've always enjoyed BC with Nintendo platforms- Ive come to expect it- having a rich backlog to cherry pick from is no small matter. Many either didn't have the prior platform and haven't played the games yet, or they did but still have many games they missed out on, or even just want access to their faves.
@shonenjump86 Ya, get on that. Lucky you read my post lol...
You'll also get Felicia/Jacob in Ch. 15, depending on whether Corrin is male/female (if you have Jacob now you'll get Felicia- if you have Felicia now you'll get Jacob)
@Utena-mobile I also paired Rinkah and Kaze! Just so you know, you won't get a paralogue right away for this pair. Have to wait until Chapter 15. Reason being, Kaze leaves the group in that chapter UNLESS he has A-rank with Corrin. So be sure to get on that ASAP.

How many points would you recommend I put into it For the first 15 levels or so? I did put 2 pts into it right away, but nothing since.

Right.

Re: Review: Dark Souls III (Xbox One)
@GraveLordXD
I think I need to get used to the controls, get it into muscle memory.
I think my bro said 70% was the weight ratio cutoff for the slow-roll. That he stressed to me as really important.
I couldn't figure out how to kick tho. I read the tutorial message but, didn't seem to work.

US military stationed in Japan and Korea probably. Makes perfect sense.
Not a single utter Japanese soul dare touch an Xbox lol.

If not for Japan, then for us.
There is a segment of western gamers who love JRPG's, and if they want to maximize market share, it's important to offer as broad a range of genres as possible.

And even if there's not, you already know Remedy will bring something good regardless.
I'm thinking there may be DLC coming though. That ending eh...?
Re: Latest Gears of War 4 Trailer Brings the Sadness
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
Personally, I liked Halo 5's campaign- at least, what I've played of it.
Re: Quantum Break Glitches Into Top Spot on UK Retail Chart
Ya this is a good game. To sum it up- capable gameplay (good- not great but good) mixed with one of the finest stories ever to grace the medium, and a small dose of live action with the same actors to really drive home the immersion. Very high production values.
I've heard some complaints about the live-action but honestly I thought it was exceptionally well done. Close to television quality actually. You could tell it wasn't quite that good but it was good enough.
After speaking to my brother who is a huge remedy fan it seems this was the basic blueprint of Alan Wake also- meh but capable gameplah with an extraordinary story and production values.

What a fantastic game that was. Really really excellent.

I continue on my epic quest through the Fire Emblem Fates trilogy of releases- which is currently Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest
Also tried a bit of Trackmania Turbo and Mini Mario Amiibo Challenge (both of which are actually really fun games).

Gosh I love SRPG's when done right and this looks to have amazing potential!
Unfortunately I really, really dislike anything to do with the occult or demonic themes, so I think I'll have to give this a pass... Shame they couldn't have gone with a more middle-road approach
Re: Fable Legends Cancelled, Lionhead Studios to Close
@SuperKMx @Gamer83
I really enjoyed The Last of Us.
But no doubt it is certainly excellent

@Utena-mobile
I just wanted to share my thoughts on what you said a little.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Ninety Three
Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and oh my goodness, I don't think a more addictive pair of games exists.

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
Re: Editor's Opinion: The Logically Fallacious 32X Comparison
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition Coming March 11th
Ah... a rare gem gets even better.
Bring it on
Re: Xbox One Finally Gets Ability To Purchase Backward Compatible Games From the Console
KelticDevil
"Yea people who say backwards compatability isn't a big deal are the gamers who don't have it. Cough.....PlayStation. Lol."
Lol
That is actually very true. I've always enjoyed BC with Nintendo platforms- Ive come to expect it- having a rich backlog to cherry pick from is no small matter. Many either didn't have the prior platform and haven't played the games yet, or they did but still have many games they missed out on, or even just want access to their faves.
This is AWESOME
Re: Review: Pixel Piracy (Xbox One)
I heard this game was straight garbage...
Re: Motorcycle Combat Rolls Onto Xbox One With Road Rage
Ah man, I used to love Road Rash on the Genesis...
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Ninety Two
@shonenjump86
Ya, get on that. Lucky you read my post lol...
You'll also get Felicia/Jacob in Ch. 15, depending on whether Corrin is male/female (if you have Jacob now you'll get Felicia- if you have Felicia now you'll get Jacob)
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Ninety Two
The one...
The only...
Fire Emblem Fates!
@Utena-mobile
I also paired Rinkah and Kaze! Just so you know, you won't get a paralogue right away for this pair. Have to wait until Chapter 15. Reason being, Kaze leaves the group in that chapter UNLESS he has A-rank with Corrin. So be sure to get on that ASAP.
