Um, you're talking to the guy who spent 150+ hours just to beat all three Metroid Prime games (I like to explore everything and find everything) so Im probably not too far in. I saved right before reaching the spirit tree (at least, it looks like I'm about to reach it), but I have most of the map explored underneath it.
It's an absolute brilliant game, it really is, and I want to just binge out until I beat it, but I'm also addicted to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate right now, and just got DMC and Code Name STEAM to add to my list as well. It's tough to juggle multiple games that all suck you in, but honestly I WILL finish Ori. It's the best game on the Xbox One, easily, and with the exception of MH4U, the best game I've played all year.
Finally! I bought my Xbox for games I couldn't play on Wii U or PS4- this is EXACTLY the kind of game I bought it for right here. Great exclusives may be sparse, but when they're timeless like this it makes it all worth it
So I kept hearing about Divinity Original Sin, which I know nothing about but have heard is a great game from more than one gamer. Is this the sequel or something?
And a little Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars here and there.
Just got my hunter to high rank finally, both in the caravan for single player and the guild for online. I hate slouching on one or the other, like, being high rank online but still stuck on 2 star quests for single player.. I take extra care to progress evenly, so that as I encounter monsters on my own, I can go hunt them online with the NintendoLife community.
Nope, not interested. Controls are off, you can tell by the way the car skids and fishtails in the video. Same thing that ruins every futuristic racer- they always insist on fishtail controls.
Once, just once, can someone make a game that controls like F-Zero GX, where turning is instantly responsive and there is no back end sliding or fish tailing involved- turns are sharp and precise, and you're fighting against sharp bends in the track and response time rather than fighting to keep the car from sliding out of control...
@TylerTreese Of course. But coupled with the free to play model makes for a very persuasive argument to those who have not yet signed up. Or, at least I imagine that's what they're banking on anyways.
I get what they're doing. They don't care about profiting from this game directly, they care about raking in the LIVE subscriptions. The game requires it, and it's free, meaning all those people who don't have LIVE will be enticed to download the game, only to discover "Hey! I need a LIVE subscription to play this! Well what the heck, might as well seeing as I get to play this awesome game if I do"
Indeed! You don't really appreciate how perfect the game is until you compete in time trials, and discover some sly secret roll jump, double hop off an enemy over a spike and into a barrel, then blast out prematurely with precision timing to trim a few seconds off. All of which would have never been possible without perfect enemy placement and timing.
I've got some of the most amazing time trials videos uploaded, and it wasn't until I spent extensive time with each level that I began to pick up on the nuances of design. I always loved the game, but gaining a deeper understanding of just how expertly crafted the levels are elevates the game to something more.
@EternalDragonX Oh dear. You asked me what I think of DKC Tropical Freeze. Eh em, well, it's only the single greatest video game ever made in the last 30 some years! I love it. It provides challenge- none of that wishy washy platforming, but at the same time it's fair and not overly hard. It's just right really. You won't have to worry about the gamepad in that one cause it doesn't use it, like, at all (unless you're doing off TV play of course). Not sure if you ever played DKC Returns, but it's everything great about that game plus normal control schemes, better graphics and expertly designed stages and enemy placement for the time trial community. Speaking of which, you can upload videos for your friends to watch. I used to hold a few top 10 positions worldwide but I haven't played in a year, I'm sure I've been bumped back.
So yeah, I think you have excellent taste to go for DKC. It's always the number one game I recommend to others, right next to Bayonetta 2 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. If you have a Wiimote though, I'd definitely recommend Pikmin 3. You can play it with whatever but it's really meant to be played with a Wiimote. And it's one of the most unique and incredible games I've played in a long time. Highly recommend.
As for the hard drive situation, it's not painful at all really. Get an external and a Y-cable and you're good to go. They say "oh get one with external power source and you don't need Y cable" but screw all that. Outlets are limited know what I mean? Can buy a Y cable on Amazon for $3 and you're all set. Just make sure to get one with the same connector that your hard drive has. Plug it in using the Y cable instead of the packaged cable, go to Settings, then Data Management, Format Hard Drive and there ya go. All set. I use a 500gb for mine, but I buy mostly physical too. 1tb seems more than adequate.
@EternalDragonX Lol, you said screw it huh? Took your kid's Wii U and set up shop in the living room hahaha...
Well right now I'm backing up all my data to a 1tb hard drive I just got, so my new3DS is busy wirelessly copying files, so I can't play Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the time being. So I'm cruisin the net, killing some time.
Oh, I got Kirby Rainbow Curse and The Order 1886. Im really diggin Kirby though. I love the challenge of drawing the rainbow rails to guide him through the stages. I'll try to enjoy as much of it is I can before my 3DS is done copying.
I had no idea Life Is Strange was out so soon. I hadn't heard anything about it since it's announcement. I wonder if they're going to do a full physical release afterward. If not then I don't mind buying the episodes, but I'd hate to get them only to see a full physical release at the end.
I had my hopes up until I watched the upload footage on the store. Just didn't impress me. Sequel could do great things through if they improve upon this.
@HEADESTROYER4 Might have to count me out on that- I've only played the game a couple times (free version at that) and would basically be a rag doll for whoever is unfortunate enough to face me lol
@TylerTreese Right. I will say that I'm not sure if I entirely like the game- it seemed a little too combo based in the free version. Like, if you're not doing a combo you can't really even hit the other person. I don't remember the originals being that excessive with the combo system. Maybe they were, after all it's been at least 15 years, maybe more, since I played Killer Instinct Gold on the N64...
@TylerTreese Ya, I was actually wondering about that. Once season 2 is complete, are they gonna do a Season 3 or call it a game? I'd like the complete package if I buy it- one of my pet peeves is owning incomplete games. Like RE Revelations 2- no way could I start buying the episodes individually. Rather wait til they're all finished and buy it on disc. But it seems they might be releasing KI content for a long time to come
@midnafanboy My brother was like that with SMTIV. Every time he'd visit he'd have his 3DS wide open with that game playing. For months and months on end, that's all he would play. Must've got it's claws in you like it did my brother. If you're anything like him, you'll be playing that game for many months to come!
@Gamer83 Hmm, I can see where you're coming from. Me, I loved the GameCube. Having games like F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime 1/2, Pikmin 1/2, Zelda Windwaker (I actually love that game), Smash Melee, among many others, was a huge step up from the N64 imo. Of course, the GC was a very divisive system- you either loved it or hated it.
I actually never played Mario Sunshine so Idk if it's good or not- though you're not the first to voice dissatisfaction with that game.
Anyways, I was gonna tell you I got a Kinect finally. Still learning all the voice commands/gestures, but uh, is there any useful ones you've taken a liking to through firsthand experience?
@DRL Very nice! At least some good is come of this new Wii VC (and since Wii mode is capable of GC, perhaps will even open the door to GameCube VC?). You get to play a game you otherwise might've never played. I bought PunchOut Wii today also. I own it on disc too but I never played more than an hour. I did like it though, some of the best use of motion controls to date, up there with Skyward Sword and Metroid Prime 3.
That's why I like buying games and consoles day one though. So I don't miss anything. Speaking of which, are you getting MH4U when it releases next month? You're a big Monster Hunter fan too, right?
@DRL Right. Ya know, I don't know why I never picked those games up all these years, considering how much I liked the originals. Guess once you hold off once, you forget about it and you end up just never playing it.
@Gamer83 Oh absolutely! One can dream, right? I never did play WaveRace on the GameCube. It's dirt cheap nowadays too, maybe I'll have to pick that up, as well as 1080 on the GameCube (yet another N64 classic I never played the sequel to).
I think it was the waves that set it apart. I remember doing barrel rolls and backflips off every wave, and the water looked SO realistic too (at least, at the time it did).
Looks great, except the "100% procedural". I despise procedurally generated games. It's a cheap and mediocre substitute for skillfull level design and enemy placement. Perhaps it has it's place for RPG random battles but that's as far as it goes, at least imo anyways.
Now this looks interesting. I'm buying this on Xbox One over other platforms since it's getting an early release.
My brother bought me a Kinect for my X1 for my birthday yesterday. Still getting used to the voice commands and hand gestures. Voice works great, but the hand gestures can be a bit fiddly.
Beat Dragon Age Inquisition after 80 hours of play time.
After seeing the trailer for the new Fire Emblem, I'm beyond stoked and busted out Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS to finish the epilogues, DLC and Spotpass content, and might even start a new game on hard with permadeath. Beyond that, I started playing Fire Emblem (GBA) on Wii U VC, and also obtained Awakening's Japan-only predecessor on DS with a full English fan translation. AND I got the Japan only Fire Emblem Binding Blade (GBA) with English patch, AND all 3 of the Japan only SNES entries, all with full English translations. Man I love me some Fire Emblem!
But now, it's off to the races for me. Why, you might ask? Well. Because Monster Mother Freaking Hunter 4 Ultimate demo is out. That's why. The hunt is on.
If I was into competitive FPS games I'd get these, as well as modded pads and all that jazz.
The concept is proven mathematics. As someone explained already, the longer the radius of a circle (or in the case of analog joystick movement, a sphere), the larger the circumference, and therefore the longer the travel, and therefore the higher the precision. They may look goofy, but I have no doubt these are just what the dr ordered for hardcore shooter fans
@Gamer83 Wanted to let you know that I got the game (yes, me, the one who used to say games like Forza were not of interest). And my verdict is this: the very same day I got it, I bought the Storm Island DLC. That pretty much says it all right there. It's been 15 years since I found a realistic racing game that I actually liked, and this one I like. ALOT. I think it's the outdoors cross country racing and more arcade-y feel to it that I love. Forza 5 still doesn't interest me too much, but by the time I'm done playing this I might be begging for F5, you never know.
Well, this is a very special weekend for me. You see, I don't usually play realistic racing games. The reason for that is I haven't played one that I actually liked since I was a young child (and back then all racing games were a bit different than they are now). But as I mentioned last week, I decided to buy Forza Horizons 2, which has now arrived. And well, it's amazing.
I love it when I finally find a game I like in a genre I'm usually put off by.
Other than that, playing a little Captain Toad and Smash Bros on Wii U, playing a little Tales of Hearts R on Vita, some Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry on PS4, and Persona Q on 3DS.
I died a ton on the first boss. Takes a while to get in the swing, but once you do it clicks. Started using magic class, but after a few hours decided to restart using melee class instead. Really addictive game. Got my brother hooked on it too. Really fun game...
Hmmm... Not so much interested in the cars, but the DLC tracks/new areas might be of interest.
In comparison, the DLC for $20 (new cars, new map area, new events, new weather, new all kinds of crap) seems a much better bargain than spending that same $20 on the VIP pass, which doesn't seem to offer nearly as much.
Not sure how much I'll like this game but I'm a sucker for quality DLC, though I am reluctant to spend the extra coin sometimes considering how much I already spend on games. For example, that Far Cry 4 DLC looks good but for $30? Idk, that's a LOT. I only spent $38 on the game, brand new day 1. Know what I mean! $20 seems much more reasonable. Though there was a time even $20 seemed steep for DLC.

Wii U: Mario vs DK: Tipping Stars
PS4: DMC

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

I'm playing
MONSTER HUNTER 4 ULITMATE
Locking myself in my room now, quitting my job, ignoring personal hygiene and binging on what is the last video game I'll ever need.
If you don't hear from me in a few years, you'll know why.
Re: What's Out This Week: February 3rd (North America)
Looks about like this week's Wii U weekly store update... Must be just a bad week for consoles all around. Oh well, there's always next Thursday.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Forty Four
Wii U: Metroid Prime Trilogy.......Fire Emblem (GBA Virtual Console)
PS4: nothing
Xbox One: nothing
3DS: Code Name STEAM (demo).......Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (demo)
Vita: nothing
Really digging into Metroid and Fire Emblem, but still spending a little time on the demos for my two most anticipated handheld games.

Red Steel may have been mediocre, but Red Steel 2 was fantastic, and just nailed the motion controls.

Still waiting for a physical release of everything developed, basically the Ultimate Edition on the store for $50, but on disc.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Forty Three
Still tinkering with my Kinect, trying to learn the ins and outs of the device. As for games, well...
Wii U: Fire Emblem (GBA)
3DS: Fire Emblem Awakening
And that's about all I'm sinking time in to at them moment.

Other than that, playing a little Captain Toad and Smash Bros on Wii U, playing a little Tales of Hearts R on Vita, some Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry on PS4, and Persona Q on 3DS.
Re: Halo Master Chief Collection Early Adopters to Get Exclusive "Thank You" Bonuses, ODST Campaign Confirmed
Wow, love it when developers give consolation content. But I am curious, is this going to be a free campaign or campaign MODE?
Re: CI Games Has Started Development on Lords of the Fallen 2
I died a ton on the first boss. Takes a while to get in the swing, but once you do it clicks. Started using magic class, but after a few hours decided to restart using melee class instead. Really addictive game. Got my brother hooked on it too. Really fun game...
So heck ya I'll take a sequel!

Re: Forza Horizon 2 Storm Island DLC Will Be Available VERY Soon
@Gamer83

@Captain_Chao5 What do you have to do to be considered VIP?
