Re: Mighty No. 9 Takes Aim At Xbox Platforms

JaxonH

@sinalefa

Haha ya right. I pledged $15, the minimum to get a copy. I spend enough on games as is- always looking for the lowest cost availabe.

Believe me, if I had money like that I'd love to go have dinner with a legend like Inafune! Only reason I'm buying this game on all my platforms is A) to show my support and send a clear message to Capcom and the industry that THIS is what gamers wanted, and B) I'm just a really, REALLY huge Mega Man fan. First game I ever played in fact. This is my dream game- this is the one I've been waiting for since I was a young kid. I want this game permanently embedded on all my consoles as a pillar of my digital collection.

Same for Shovel Knight. I wasn't too thrilled on eating the cost of the game twice. Especially at 15 bucks a pop, but I really had to have that game on both systems ya know? Sometimes, the games are just that good!

Re: Mighty No. 9 Takes Aim At Xbox Platforms

JaxonH

@Generik

Yeah it does- game looks dope!

It's going to be a digital release. The game was Kickstarted by Keiji Inafune (creator of Mega Man) after he left Capcom- he had been wanting to make a new Mega Man game for years but Capcom wouldn't approve it. So his response was to leave Capcom and make the game he always wanted. Naturally due to licensing issues, he couldn't actually make a "Mega Man" game. Ergo, Mighty Number 9. As close as we're gonna get.

But all us Mega Man fans see this for what it really is- the Mega Man game we've always wanted. And that was reflected by the insane funding received through Kickstarter> the game smashed through its' initial funding target in less than 24 hours, a goal of $900,000 I might add! It then went on to smash every single stretch goal, eventually reaching close to 5 MILLION dollars before the campaign had ended.

I funded this game at Kickstarter and have a copy coming to Wii U. But I'm buying this for every system I own, including Xbox One.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Sixteen

JaxonH

@Gamer83

Well, for someone like me, that could be the deciding factor in subscribing or not. It would be hard to say no to a $50/yr sub knowing it would save me money on at least a few digital-only games I would have bought anyways during that time span. Not big on paying for multiplayer because I'd rarely use it, if at all, but it would tear down the paywall for single player games like Destiny.

So yeah, I think if MS ever does change their policy, that'll probably be enough for me to jump in. I mean, even if there's 3 digital-only games a year that I would have bought anyways, and even if they're just $10 a piece, that still counters $30 of the $50 cost. The remaining $20 can probably be justified through Xbox Live Gold discounts on other digital-only games. That's good enough for me.

I'll keep my nose to the ground for any whiff of a change in policy...

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Sixteen

JaxonH

@Gamer83

Oh really? So it's not like PS Plus, where the minute your subscription runs out you lose the game? You're saying that I'll actually OWN the games as if I had purchased them? If so, then yes, that's definitely something to consider. Granted, I'm not interested in retail downloads- because I insist on owning physical copies. But as for digital-only releases, that could prove beneficial. Depending on the games offered over the course of 12 months.

EDIT
But this was taken straight from the official Xbox Support website...

"Games with Gold Free Games Offer: For paid Gold members only; Active Gold membership required to play downloaded Xbox One games"

Says you have to be an active member to play them. Read this article here- it explains everything

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Sixteen

JaxonH

@PeTitosaurus

Yeah, the thing is I don't subscribe to Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus. I buy all the games I want to play so I can keep them forever (collector's mentality), and I don't play enough online to warrant a subscription anyways. Pretty much keep my MP gaming limited to Monster Hunter, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Although I will dive into some Splinter Cell Blacklist co-op or the occasional Call of Duty deathmatch from time to time. Basically, if a game is on a console with free online, I might consider it. But I just ignore MP for games on PS4 and Xbox One.

Which is why I'm not playing Titanfall. Well, that and the fact I'm single player campaign kind of gamer. I stay away from PS4/X1 games that are online only (because that means I'll need a subscription) and multiplayer only. Which sucks because both Plants vs Zombies and Titanfall look fun, if only there was a single player offline campaign.

Re: Metro Redux Xbox One Release Date Confirmed

JaxonH

I was duped into thinking Lords of the Fallen was releasing August 26 (that was the date on Best Buy page where I pre ordered), and I JUST got an email saying the release date had been moved to Dec 31st, 2014 (which means placeholder, TBA). Pisses me off- I hate it when they put a date to make you think it's coming out sooner than it is. Thankfully, I got a second email stating Metro Redux had been moved from Dec 31st, 2014 to August 26. The ol' swapperoo lol!

Fingers crossed. Last time this happened The Witcher 3 was set for October 14, and the same day it was delayed they announced Batman Arkham Knight for October 14. Only to find out later that one got delayed too

So here's to hoping that doesn't happen again!

Re: Xbox One Is The More Popular Console in the US...On Facebook

JaxonH

Poor Wii U lol... not one state?

Makes sense though. MS is an American brand. It's iconic. Xbox is a household name here. I have a feeling a lot of people will be buying Xbox One consoles over the coming years. Just takes people a while to get around to doing it over here I think. It's not "top priority" unless you're an avid gamer.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Fifteen

JaxonH

@sinalefa

Well I don't have any games for it yet besides Killer Instinct, but from what I can tell the graphics are pretty much right on par with PS4. Unless you count frames I don't think there's really much advantage either way. PS4 stands on end and Xbox One doesn't, guess that's something of note to consider. Um, I like the PS4 controller better as far as the touch pad and shoulder buttons go, but I like the X1 controller better for the analogues and ergonomic fit. My only issue with the X1 controller is that it's kind of an awkward reach for L1/R1, similar to the Wii U gamepad if that helps explain it. The L2/R2 are perfectly right there for your fingers though. Oh, and I don't like that X1 controllers still take batteries. But, like the Wiimote, you can buy an official chargeable battery and solve the problem. That's what I did. Don't go 3rd party though. Get the official Play n Charge Kit.

Menus are about equal I'd say, although the Xbox allows you to run your cable TV through the console, which is awesome, especially if you have voice commands to change channels, turn on the TV, etc. I bought the version without Kinect and I'm regretting it now, because I still have to use my remote to turn the TV on/off, change the channel, etc. Only now do I realize the value of the Kinect for multimedia, something I didn't think I'd be interested in when I bought it.

Both consoles fill up that 500gb FAST, even buying physical games. Tomb Raider- 40+ GB, Killzone- 40+ GB, Wolfenstein- 40+ GB. I've already eaten up 160GB on my PS4, and I only own 6 physical games. So the fact the Xbox One allows for external storage is a huge plus, although I wouldn't be surprised if Sony announced something soon.

All in all though, it really comes down to the games. And for me, personally, I'd probably say the scales are tipped slightly in the PS4's favor right now, considering Infamous, Transistor and TLoU Remaster which releases next month. But that's only because I'm not interested in Titanfall, because I don't buy games when they lack a single player offline mode. If you don't mind online-only multiplayer games, then hands down Xbox all the way. Titanfall looks great, it's just not for me. Granted, PS4 has Little Big Planet 3 coming (I personally hate LBP- if I'm gonna play a platformer I'll play Nintendo on my Wii U, even the worst Nintendo platformer is still better than LBP), Bloodborne (another game not for me- I'm getting Lords of the Fallen, a much less gruesome, less gothic game of the genre), and Uncharted 4, while Xbox has games like Halo Master Chief, Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Phantom Dust and Crackdown 3 on the way.

So yeah, it really just comes down to "Which system will have the most games YOU like?" PS4 renders slightly better framerates, stands on end and has a solid controller, while X1 has more interesting exclusives on the way, perfect for channeling multimedia like cable TV, and while the L1/R1 are a slightly awkward reach of the finger, the controller is otherwise much more ergonomic. I say just pick the one that has the most games you're interested in. All the rest is just noise.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Fifteen

JaxonH

@sinalefa

Hey what's up! Nice to see you here. I just joined recently myself when I got my Xbox One, and no, it's not like Nintendo Life or even Push Square. Very small membership, but a solid one nonetheless. And most members on this site are multi-console owners like us, so no fanboy malarkey (which is nice). Just guys (and girls) who like games.

Re: Xbox One Jumps to Top of Amazon Japan Bestseller List

JaxonH

It'll be interesting if the Xbox One actually performs on par (or at least in the same ballpark) as the PS4 and Wii U. The 360 had a bad run in Japan, but now that the brand has established itself as a permanent fixture of the gaming industry, perhaps they will be more apt to invest in a MS console this gen. That'd sure throw people for a loop lol... Always expect the unexpected.

Re: What's Out This Week: June 17th (North America)

JaxonH

Eh, looks like I'm gonna be waiting a few more months before I have a game to play on my new console. Nothing's catching my interest, guess I'll have to wait until Sunset Overdrive.

That's cool though. I bought this console for exclusives only, so naturally they're going to be spaced apart quite a bit.

Re: E3 2014: Hyper Light Drifter Looks to Impress

JaxonH

This was a Kickstarter game, but I didn't know Xbox One was one of the platforms on the list. Now I know

Hyper Light Drifter is my third most anticipated Kickstarter game behind Shovel Knight and Mighty Number 9. Game looks sick...

Re: E3 2014 Across The Platforms: A Multi-format View of E3

JaxonH

I'm happy- it was definitely a great E3. Last year was all about hardware for Sony and MS, which is cool and all but it's games that excite me. And Nintendo's E3 Direct last year was ok, but there weren't that many games announced that we didn't already know about (they prematurely spilled the beans that January).

Last year I was excited, but this year I'm bouncing off the walls lol...

Re: Kinect-free Xbox One Flies Off Shelves

JaxonH

Yep, just got mine and set up my account 10 minutes ago! My Wii U/3DS NNID was taken, and so was my PS4/Vita PSN ID. So I had to come up with a new Gamer Tag ID (never owned an Xbox before).

Re: Rayman Legends Leads This Week's Deals With Gold

JaxonH

@EternalDragonX

Usually it's about 50% more when converting from euro/pound to the US dollar. That's obviously just a rough estimate, and does vary day by day as the exchange rate fluctuates, but generally speaking whenever I see a price in terms of pounds or euros, I tack on 50% and usually it's pretty close to what it would be in US dollars. So roughly $15 for Rayman Legends (ALTHOUGH, sometimes deals like this stay 9.99 across the board, meaning US gamers are getting it for around 67% of the price of what European gamers are paying)

Re: Splinter Cell Movie Will Be a Younger Take on the Series

JaxonH

I've never been a fan of movies based off video games, or video games based off movies for that matter.

And of course he's gonna be even younger. Every game he's younger- pretty soon we'll be playing a 16-year old CIA cadet recruited fresh out of high school lol. I understand youth sells, but some characters are just better in their age of wisdom.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Thirteen

JaxonH

Hey guys, I know this is off-topic but Amazon has Xbox One Controllers with the Plug and Play Charge Kit included for $58.28 right now. I just ordered one and thought I'd let everyone know in case they might be interested. This is a pretty good deal, seeing as controllers alone sell for $1.72 more than this as is, and the Plug and Play is another $25. It's free shipping as well (anything over $35).

The price isn't displayed until you check out, but it's $58.28 just so you know. Here's a link if anyone is interested...

Re: A Few Clarifications About Xbox One External Storage

JaxonH

I couldn't care less about media playback. Installing games, DLC and apps is all I care about. Fact is, 500GB goes fast. REAL fast. I've already eaten up over 150GB on my PS4, and I buy everything in physical disc form! I only have 5 physical games, but when the installation files are 40+ gigs a piece, it doesn't take much to fill it up. Ironically, I think I can hold the most games on my 32GB Wii U lol (file sizes are MUCH smaller).

I wouldn't scold MS over this. I would commend them. Now if only Sony would follow suit...

Re: Wolfenstein Hits UK Top Spot

JaxonH

I'm actually really enjoying Wolfenstein. The mechanics are very smooth, MUCH smoother than I anticipated. I daresay they outdid Call of Duty on this one. And the story is surprisingly enjoyable as well. It's just an all around good game. Not an epic game. Certainly won't win any GotY awards. But it's good.

And I gotta brag on this one, but I scored this the day BEFORE release for $22.99 US. It was $60 at Best Buy, but they offered $20 in reward certificates for pre ordering (usually they just do $10 for big releases, but this got $20 for some reason), then I got 20% off as a Gamer's Club Unlocked member, THEN I got an email with a $5 credit because they ran short on the Panzerhund miniature figure that came with pre orders. Effectively taking the price down to $22.99, and arrived one day before it released. Talk about a deal!

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? -- Issue Twelve

JaxonH

Wow, I'm really impressed with the diversity in interest found on this site, from the editors to the members themselves. Well done guys- those are some nice lists indeed.

As always, I'm platform-hopping over some newer releases. Here's my current itinerary for this lovely 3 day weekend:

PS4- Wolfenstein The New Order..........Transistor
Wii U- Child of Light..........Scram Kitty
Vita- Borderlands 2..........God of War HD Collection
3DS- Mario Golf World Tour..........Kirby Triple Deluxe
X1- PRE ORDERED (June 9th)

Might have to jump into some Wii/GC/DS backlog as well this weekend.

Re: Creative Director Addresses Far Cry 4 Controversy

JaxonH

Man, people look for ANY little reason to play the race card nowadays...

What's racist to me is the accusation itself. So, because the character is white-skinned, they shout racism. But if he WASN'T white-skinned, it'd be ok? That's messed up. I mean let's call it what it is here- the accusations are only being leveled because of the color of the character's skin. So who's being racist here?

To me, it's just a box art. The guy is obviously an evil dictator, who by the look of things rules with an iron fist. I think it has more to do with oppressive leadership (as stated above) than skin color. At least, that's my take from it anyways.

Re: Evolve Unleashes on Xbox One October 21st

JaxonH

Wow, October is slam packed with releases.

I've already pre ordered Batman Arkham Knight, Dragon Age Inquisition and Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor. I'll pass on Alien Isolation and Evolve. Cool concept with Evolve though- I'm just not an online shooter kind of guy. But gimme a good offline campaign and I'll rock it all night!

Re: How Much Does Your Console Really Cost?

JaxonH

Wow, look at the difference in standby power consumption between Wii U and Xbox One. This is interesting data. Personally, I always turn my consoles off- not a big fan of standby unless I'm downloading something.
