See everything about this sounds great...but, I hate the artsytle (reminds me of those poor flash games) and it just looked slow and boring during the reveal. I have a feeling this will be a hard game to demonstrate well in videos. I am hoping tomorrow's showing gets me fully hyped for it though.
Thankfully it's coming to gamepass. I also hated the artsytle and what I saw from As Dusk falls...and that's probably my Xbox game of the year so far
@NEStalgia see I'm more confident on there being a PlayStation 6. The consoles make Sony so much money...the ps5 will make Sony a lot of money (though I'll be surprised if it's as success as the PS4 was). I can't imagine PlayStation ever being reduced to an app....where as I can easily see Xbox being nothing but an app in 7-10 years time. I can definitely see gamepass being more on a PlayStation console than I can see ps extra/premium being on an Xbox console anyway
I do wish Xbox would have more hardware though - particularly a VR headset. I really think VR gaming needs MS to come into the market for some proper growth.
What annoys me about Phil is when he talks about the whole 'reduce friction and allow people to play with their friends'...and all the 'inclusivity' nonsense we get from him...not once does he ever address the archaic paywall Xbox place on their customers with MP - something that directly places obstacles playing these cross platform games...and something that makes the whole notion of 'inclusivity' hot air. I just wish instead of constantly pandering to the audience he'd actually show us he's removing barriers ...rather than just talking about it to win some limp applause from rhe most gullible.
Also, release some damn games before moving the discussion as to whether they should be exclusive or not. Like me deciding if I should do heroin today when I've no heroin or access to heroin. Lets have the conversation once I'm an addict FFS.
@NEStalgia If there's a next console generation...next Xbox generation console (not a half step)...I can't say I'd be confident in saying that's a cert
@FraserG yeah course he is...Xbox brand has already broken away from the console. He wants gamepass on everything. Gamepass' needs exclusives...gamepass will get plenty of exclusives. But gamepass won't be exclusive to Xbox console...it already isn't. It will be interesting to see at the end of this gen, when gamepass is an app to download on your TV...if games like deathstranding will be available on it...or if they break up gamepass further - if gamepass cloud edition has games that aren't available on Xbox and pc...or less games etc...if there's a PlayStation gamepass edition...
One thing's for sure, they'd leave the Xbox console behind in a heart beat if they could.
@Dezzy70 you best hope that day never comes. Can't think of anything worse. £90 games ftw! £600 consoles...yes please. £100 controllers...take my money!
It's more likely subscription services will make consoles redundant than there ever being just one console needed to go to.
And subscription services will have more exclusives than ever before. So if Phil is suggesting exclusives are going to be a thing of the past he's talking nonsense again...and the timing is spot on for such nonsense.
At this point I just want Xbox to announce some different games in the halo universe. Get one of their many many wrpg studios making a halo rpg… the universe is reach and would be well suited for one
There’s every possibility this is going to be full of NFTs… but I also got the impression it was going to be dreams mixed with an mmo. They really need to explain what this is better - trailer did very little for me.
Really looking forward to this, but… tonight’s showing has me a bit concerned for its frame rate. And ending on one of those cinematic scenes that go on for too long only to punish you for trial and error at the end was an odd choice to show tbh
@Would_you_kindly I would imagine Sony would benefit from having gamepass on PlayStation by the game sales - which would still go through their store. They'd also of course benefit from additional hardware sales which they may have lost to people picking up an Xbox over a PlayStation, of course...which then offers more potential to people getting into their eco system (I would imagine you'd still need plus even if they did have gamepass on)
I would imagine it would be a cut down version of gamepass...but it wouldn't be just a handful of games. This is why MS are buying publishers. Activision is as big a publisher as EA...add Bethesda, ID ect to that catalogue...and then xboxs own studios...they'll easily have as many games on that service as Ubisoft or EA alone have on theirs...and then there may still be EA play on it too...as I don't know how well that's doing as a stand alone on PlayStation.
The benefits of gamepass on PlayStation seem pretty obvious to me. And I think if Sony's live service games don't take off...and day 1 pc releases aren't enough...the next stage for sony will surely be day 1 releases of their own games on their subscription services before gamepass...but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if at some point we do see gamepass on a PlayStation console.
Nintendo... Well vast majority of games you can't buy on the Nintendo store. So I would imagine Nintendo would be paid my MS to have gamepass on there...and benefit via hardware sales....leading to more software sales of their own games, and keeps the aging switch hardware in the conversation
Still looks stunning. Really hoping this isn't all smoke and mirrors and there's actually a game there with some depth - if they can give me Elden rings that looks like that...wow
Can't say I'd be overly excited for this. I know I wouldn't personally pay £12 a month to get access to titles that never hold their price that long anyway. I guess if it ended up part of gamepass, where it's then effectively offered for 'free', getting new assassin's creeds and far crys could be a coop for Xbox. Personally I'd rather MS spend their money elsewhere though.
@UltimateOtaku91 EA access is a huge plus for gamepass...I mean it's probably given gamepass it's biggest release this year. I really don't think EA access needs day 1 releases when it has 10hr trails of games like battlefield and grid on release...gives you plenty enough idea on the games. Maybe if there was more a focus on sp day 1 full releases would show more of a benefit.
As dusk falls for me... Gameplay pretty much non-existent. But got hooked on the story and looked forward doing an episode each night. One of the biggest surprises of the year for me as I had zero expectations on liking it.
I reckon flight sim, and cloud gaming, has removed a lot of those reservations about the cloud. The potential is huge...but hopefully he'll keep grounded - we don't want a walking sim where you walk around a full scale globe. I'm really hoping it's a horror game - one that's released in weekly episodes like a TV show. One that uses the cloud to incorporate current events.
Actually scrap that, I really hope it's silent hills...just for the laugh.
Tbh though, there's now rumours he may be doing a psvr2 game...now that would be something I'd love to play!
When you hear stories like this, how many millions they're paying for 3rd party, you really do start to see just how Sony is going to struggle to compete with their subscription services. Can't blame Sony for spending money on marketing rights that end up blocking or delaying gamepass releases...they have to compete. Be frustrated at MS, who have a bottomless well of money, for not being on the ball and getting those marketing rights first. They used to be a lot more aggressive with marketing back in the 360 days. Hopefully PlayStations blocking attempt of the acquisition, and MS perceived frustration of not being able to get certain games on gamepass, will have Xbox more aggressive again when it comes to striking marketing deals.
Wish I could get excited for this - and that last pic does look great. Everything I hear about this though sounds like it’s pulling in a lot of directions…yet lacks direction…if that makes sense. It sounds ambitious but nothing I’ve seen looks like it’s nailing anything particularly well. I guess I just don’t know how they will pull off something that was clearly designed for co op as a fulfilling sp game. And how different it will be from the countless other games in the L4D mould. And I love Arkane games…this one just isn’t doing it for me at the moment.
@Sol4ris Well we all know they're always moving the goal posts...this will be no different. I think Sony had the marketing rights to REvillage though...anything they're paying to market I've nothing against them also blocking coming to gamepass whilst they have those rights...I mean it would be pretty stupid paying to market something that's hitting on gamepass day 1. So blocking those games is a non-story
Blocking games they have nothing to do with though...that's a different matter. And pretty desperate from Sony. Shows they must really be worried about gamepass
Have they used it? One of the very basic main things I'd say would be fix the amount of broken links...the bing integration being the biggest culprit - rarely takes you back to the rewards page. Clicking on a game you have to earn an achievement on will usually take you to your installed games rather than the store. Where as clicking on things that shouldn't take you to the store ends up doing so. The broken links are the biggest annoyance for me of something that one of xboxs biggest selling points.
Also sometimes when I start up a game from gamepass I have on quick resume it won't register that I've done the daily task of playing a gamepass game.
Other than that, what should they increase?...the amount of points given of course
Does Sony have marketing rights to this? If it turns out that Sony are actively paying Devs not to put games on gamepass they don't have marketing rights to, don't have timed exclusivity with, then this is a far bigger story than I thought...and frankly hard to defend against. Even if I was a Sony fanboy I would question how Sony paying to block something from gamepass they're not offering me, and don't have marketing rights to...as how's that benefiting me?
There's not even competition on Xbox. But to be honest, even if stalker 2, starfield, redfall, hell blade 2, or any others you care to mention...came out this year, Elden ring would still be a clear winner for me.
Elden ring is just a game that keeps on giving...keeps on growing. It has so many layers to it. 100hrs in and nearly every play through has revealed something new. They've literally found the ingredients of what made the demon/dark souls games so addicting in their gameplay loop...and combined it with the openness and sense of rewarding exploration of Zelda breath of the wild. In doing so they've removed all the frustrating aspects of the souls games...and created a game that consistently rewarding. This game will be in talks for game of the generation, let alone game of the year.
I'm really looking forward to God of War but, though the story may be tighter, I honestly can't see it coming close to stealing GOTY from Elden ring. And that's probably its best hope of competition this year.
Well of course they will...but it will be in the shape of releasing the main campaign, I would think. I guess they could try marketing it as expansions to win some accolades...will all depend on how big what's on the disc is. But it was reported a while back that gta6 sp may release in chunks...this is probably going to add weight to that...rather than something like gta4 release with dlc expansions afterwards
Monetizing online is always going to be a priority going forward with this franchise now I reckon
This game was ok. It's one of those where you end up getting an almost Stockholm effect...it asks so much from the player, but then you're suddenly into it and can look passed a lot of its short-comings.
It coming to PC gamepass is an interesting one, if true. Releasing PlayStation games on pc is nothing new. Placing them on gamepass, off their own desire, would be. I do wonder how cloud gaming is going to effect these different platform specific versions of gamepass as MS split them further.
Anyway, we can go on about who published the pc version, who owns trademarks and copyrights, if this will make money for sony, who's taking the L... Part of the conversation should at least be a reminder of how messed up it is that Sony took a patent out on the 'stranding' gameplay. We all took an L in that.
He’s one of the most imaginative and creative devs producing AAA consoles games today. They’re rarely perfect 10/10…but I’d say they’ve all been memorable and stick with anyone that plays them. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do with the cloud. I’m hoping it will be a chapter based horror game that will use your location some how (local news or something) and really add to a sense of familiarity in a dark twisted environment. I’m sure whatever it is the trailer will be decent anyways.
I really want to hear more from team ninjas horror too…that’s been way too quiet.
@J_Mo_Money love Arkane. Wish I could get excited over redfall but have a feeling it will fall short of most peoples expectations. I just hope they haven’t simply replaced zombies with vampires. When I think of vampires they’re not mindless…I’d love it if they have personality and decent AI (communicate with one another etc)…you can do so much more with them. So far all I’ve seen though is them running at you spamming the same animation. And they really haven’t communicated well what the benefits of team work is and how that changes the game as opposed to playing it solo - and how deep a single player campaign that then makes. We should know more soon I guess… right now, redfall doesn’t have me.
Deathloop I’m looking forward to giving a go though.
If we all had a penny every time we’re asked to be patient waiting for Xbox to deliver games…We’d all be able to afford a ps5s!
You can get away with asking for patience when consoles your platform and people are making a longer term investment. Asking people for patience is not something you can get away with with when a subscription is your platform though…if ms don’t get on top of things they’ll soon learn this. Hopefully next year will ‘be the year’ they finally start delivering on their first party promise.
the fact that PlayStation has the most loyal users across its various generations, with all indications that brand loyalty accrued in previous rounds of the ‘console wars’ suggesting that PlayStation will continue to have a strong market position.
The irony is that a lot of these most vocal ‘fans’ from the ‘previous round of the console wars’ were likely once the part of the most vocal Xbox fanbase. Hell, look at some of the most prominent PlayStation focus YouTubers currently capping for sony today…odds are one of those you’ve heard of were team Xbox back in the 360 days. I can name at least two.
And for all the ‘blind defending’…the reality is these people care most about being on ‘team winning’. So I wouldn’t say it impossible for the perceived most loyal PlayStation fan to flip flop again. Although Sony would have to really mess things up this gen.
Xbox is definitely ‘gamer-centric’ rather than ‘device-centric’. They don’t want to see Sony destroyed. They want to see gamepass on PlayStation. But of course the aim is to use cod to gain subs…and have that PlayStation casual crowd that associates PlayStation with cod last gen to associate Xbox with cod this gen. They’re not spending 70billion not to grow gamepass. It really doesn’t matter if it’s still on a PlayStation console…if it’s being marketed like it’s an Xbox exclusive and day 1 on gamepass.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah I don’t blame Sony at all for being aggressive where they can. It’s definitely comes at the expense of Xbox gamers…but then that’s business. Regardless of Phil saying how much he’s looking forward to PlayStation games, neither company are in the business of pushing gamers to the other platform. I’m glad we’re seeing the reality of that now…a peek behind the curtain. If you’re a gamer that’s a fan of games rather than some misguided brand loyalty then you’re going to reap the rewards of this.
@uptownsoul tbh I remember being more surprised the dlc for gta 4 actually made its way to PlayStation at all. MS paid a lot of millions for them at the time that people pretty much assumed they were exclusive exclusive. People forget just how much more aggressive MS was back in the early 360 days…but also the fact that they got so much slack for that from mainstream media that it reflected in their strategy with the Xbox one going forward… there’s a reason why one of the richest company’s in the world ‘lost’ it’s cod marketing. You can still see the results of that backlash today with Xbox’s reluctance to do third party marketing deals of AAA games compared to how they used to.
But dlc that came out years after the release of gta4 isn’t the same as locking the other platform out of modes, of course. Ps3 got exactly the same game and content day and date.
Where as that generation Sony was doing deals with EA where games like dead space had extra content, even a full on extra game…for the same price they were charging the Xbox version.
@UltimateOtaku91 isn’t it strange how 2 of the 3 companies you mentioned as being ‘scum’ for taking Sonys money have since been sold…and square has sold half its studios and long rumoured to be being bought by Sony… almost like all of them needed the money.
Also, who’s ‘everyone’ that’s blaming just Sony? You mean people on Xbox sites? Of course they see things a certain way. But let’s not pretend Microsoft didn’t get backlash from when they make timed exclusive deals with established franchises - Tomb raider got far more media back lash and outcry for being xbox timed exclusive than street fighter 5 or final fantasy 7 ever did - those deals were pretty much applauded by big sites.
I think the difference is the exclusivity windows. Sony usually holds exclusivity with their 3rd party deals for years. Where as Xbox is usually a few months. That’s a big difference. Also, during the 360 era xbox never held back full on game modes with games like Cod when they had marketing rights. They would get map packs first (standard)…but wouldn’t have activision lock off game modes. Where as Sony pay for things like spec ops to be a year exclusive… yet the games cost the same. Sony just does things a little bit different… a little bit more spite.
Well they’re not wrong… I mean the fact that the only console to get Bethesda games since xbox bought them is a PlayStation speaks volumes.
70 billion won’t even get this years or next years cod on gamepass.
Let’s not even delve into all the 3rd party deals of well established brands they’ve blocked from coming to xbox full stop.
I’d like to know what he thinks about subscriptions… because the concept of ‘platforms’ are fast changing. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the time ‘next gen’ come around there’s a new subscription service on the block… probably Tesla gaming!
@Rafie I know, and that’s the trick. It would be cool if this was just on Xbox, rather than on a subscription. Odds are they’re not putting it on gamepass for free (maybe they are, and then it becomes a non - issue). But what will happen is it will likely get some decent traction on gamepass - it’s Disney, adults with kids will certainly gravitate towards it. It will start building its player base… now all this is good for the game. I don’t particularly think it’s good for us subscribers…as it will likely lead to more early access f2p games coming to the service. If they’re on it for free then fine…if however they’re paid to be put on gamepass…we’re effectively being charged to play f2p games…when that money could go else where.
I’d love to know how much Disney have gotten for this.
I’d also love to know that if this wasn’t on gamepass but was still charging for the chance to play a f2p game early, how much would people be willing to pay for early access to f2p games?
@Rafie Gotta be honest, I do find this depressing. Not because you’re excited for a Disney game, the game looks visually decent, but because you’re effectively excited to play a f2p game we are being charged money to play early. And you’re not at all alone in this. It’s depressing because we can probably expect a lot more f2p games as part of our gamepass sub… I’d just love to know why people are cool with that
@themightyant Personally I want all Xbox studio games held back and revealed when they’re within 12 months from release. They need to prove them can actually release games rather than trailers.
Bethesda generally have a decent track record of getting games out (although they announced the new elder scrolls in 2017 I think…and I would t be surprised if we still don’t have it in 2027). Maybe they could have a game or two held back from the June event to be shown at gamescom or later…under the promise that that’s only months away…like they used to.
Xbox should have so many games, big and small, that maybe it would be a good idea to hold back the smaller titles like Pentiment and reveal them throughout the year that still hit that June - June window. AA games that may be over looked during ‘E3’ would be ideal to show later in the year at these other conferences.
And then there’s always third party deals.
Either way, I’ve no interest in seeing any game coming from Xbox that has no gameplay, that’s over a year away. I refuse to get excited over …I dunno, a banjo game that’s 5 years away. I get why they do it though.
@themightyant If the plan wasn’t to do that going forward then to me that says their other games are far further away than we think…and they dare not commit any of them to launch second half of next year. This will be pretty pathetic indeed.
I think I remember Sarah bond, or maybe Phil, saying they wanted to do that going forward.

Re: Xbox Wants To Know What Needs Improving About Microsoft Rewards
Re: Rumour: Sony Paid To Keep 'Cult Of The Lamb' Off Xbox Game Pass
Does Sony have marketing rights to this? If it turns out that Sony are actively paying Devs not to put games on gamepass they don't have marketing rights to, don't have timed exclusivity with, then this is a far bigger story than I thought...and frankly hard to defend against. Even if I was a Sony fanboy I would question how Sony paying to block something from gamepass they're not offering me, and don't have marketing rights to...as how's that benefiting me?
Re: Soapbox: We Need More Light-Hearted Spin-Offs Like Immortals Fenyx Rising
Play a scream slasher with its signature humour?... Talk about 'one and done' games.
Maybe I'd play it to unlock Courtney Cox's scream 3 fringe skin
Re: Talking Point: What's Your 2022 Game Of The Year So Far?
Re: Rockstar Will Reportedly Make Proper Single-Player DLC For GTA 6
Well of course they will...but it will be in the shape of releasing the main campaign, I would think. I guess they could try marketing it as expansions to win some accolades...will all depend on how big what's on the disc is. But it was reported a while back that gta6 sp may release in chunks...this is probably going to add weight to that...rather than something like gta4 release with dlc expansions afterwards
Monetizing online is always going to be a priority going forward with this franchise now I reckon
Re: Rumour: Xbox Could Be Teasing Death Stranding For PC Game Pass
Re: Xbox Game Pass Shooter 'High On Life' Confirmed For Gamescom Showcase
Heart skipped a beat there for a second as I thought it was another delay story. Really looking forward to this one.
Been binge watching Solar opposites lately on Disney + …well worth the watch
Re: Hideo Kojima Teases Work-In-Progress Trailer For Upcoming Project
He’s one of the most imaginative and creative devs producing AAA consoles games today. They’re rarely perfect 10/10…but I’d say they’ve all been memorable and stick with anyone that plays them.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do with the cloud. I’m hoping it will be a chapter based horror game that will use your location some how (local news or something) and really add to a sense of familiarity in a dark twisted environment. I’m sure whatever it is the trailer will be decent anyways.
I really want to hear more from team ninjas horror too…that’s been way too quiet.
Re: PSA: Deathloop Could Potentially Hit Xbox Game Pass In Under A Month
Re: Xbox Game Pass Is Hurting Right Now, But Larger Forces Are At Play
If we all had a penny every time we’re asked to be patient waiting for Xbox to deliver games…We’d all be able to afford a ps5s!
You can get away with asking for patience when consoles your platform and people are making a longer term investment. Asking people for patience is not something you can get away with with when a subscription is your platform though…if ms don’t get on top of things they’ll soon learn this. Hopefully next year will ‘be the year’ they finally start delivering on their first party promise.
Re: Sea Of Thieves & Everwild Dev Rare Hosts 'Special Guest' Phil Spencer
Ha, that first pic - talk about a look that doesn’t really fill you with confidence. Hopefully whatever he was just shown wasn’t Xbox related!
Re: 'Soccer Story' Could Be Your Next Xbox Game Pass Obsession
@Balta666 Yeah golf story was one of the first games I had on switch. Great game!
Re: Microsoft Explains Why It 'Wouldn't Be Profitable' To Make Call Of Duty Xbox Exclusive
the fact that PlayStation has the most loyal users across its various generations, with all indications that brand loyalty accrued in previous rounds of the ‘console wars’ suggesting that PlayStation will continue to have a strong market position.
Re: Xbox Accuses Sony Of 'Paying' To Block Games From Game Pass
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah I don’t blame Sony at all for being aggressive where they can. It’s definitely comes at the expense of Xbox gamers…but then that’s business. Regardless of Phil saying how much he’s looking forward to PlayStation games, neither company are in the business of pushing gamers to the other platform. I’m glad we’re seeing the reality of that now…a peek behind the curtain. If you’re a gamer that’s a fan of games rather than some misguided brand loyalty then you’re going to reap the rewards of this.
Re: Xbox Accuses Sony Of 'Paying' To Block Games From Game Pass
Re: Xbox Accuses Sony Of 'Paying' To Block Games From Game Pass
Re: Xbox Accuses Sony Of 'Paying' To Block Games From Game Pass
Well they’re not wrong… I mean the fact that the only console to get Bethesda games since xbox bought them is a PlayStation speaks volumes.
70 billion won’t even get this years or next years cod on gamepass.
Let’s not even delve into all the 3rd party deals of well established brands they’ve blocked from coming to xbox full stop.
It’s so refreshing to see xbox bite back.
Long live the console wars!!!
Re: Elon Musk Says There's 'No Value' In Another Gaming Console
I’d like to know what he thinks about subscriptions… because the concept of ‘platforms’ are fast changing. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the time ‘next gen’ come around there’s a new subscription service on the block… probably Tesla gaming!
…though my moneys on embracer
Re: Four Games Are Confirmed For Xbox Game Pass In September 2022 So Far
Re: Four Games Are Confirmed For Xbox Game Pass In September 2022 So Far
@Rafie Gotta be honest, I do find this depressing. Not because you’re excited for a Disney game, the game looks visually decent, but because you’re effectively excited to play a f2p game we are being charged money to play early. And you’re not at all alone in this. It’s depressing because we can probably expect a lot more f2p games as part of our gamepass sub… I’d just love to know why people are cool with that
Re: Xbox To Host Gamescom 2022 Livestream Later This Month
Re: Xbox To Host Gamescom 2022 Livestream Later This Month
@themightyant If the plan wasn’t to do that going forward then to me that says their other games are far further away than we think…and they dare not commit any of them to launch second half of next year. This will be pretty pathetic indeed.
I think I remember Sarah bond, or maybe Phil, saying they wanted to do that going forward.
