Re: 343 Adds 'COD Zombies Mode' Into Matchmaking On Halo Infinite

AccessibleDaydream

I understand that what I’m about to say is probably going to seem pedantic, but I feel it’s important to be said anyway: using terms like “CoD”, “343”, or “SSBM” (in the case of the XDefiant article) can be very alienating. Yes, the author briefly mentions the full name of what’s being referred to, and yes, as gamers, we generally know what all of these terms mean. However, someone just coming off of Google, for instance, may not understand what any of those terms mean, and in all fairness it’s not always incredibly obvious, especially without an explanation of what they actually mean. It feels more like the kind of move a niche gaming website would make, not one you’d expect from a widely-known gaming media company.

Never mind any of that, “343” is not the name of the studio. The name of the studio is “343 Industries”, or “343i” for short. Yes, it’s a tiny difference in the end, but it gets back to the point I made above.

Re: Microsoft CEO Comments On Xbox's New PlayStation Store Success

Will this newfound success lead to more Xbox releases on Sony's storefront?

The appropriate word, for some reason, feels like capituation. This will certainly be interesting...

@CaptainCluck The comparison to Windows Phone checks out, mostly because I really liked Windows Phone. I also liked Windows 8's Metro UI, though, too, so maybe I shouldn't get involved with beloved things. XD

Re: Microsoft Rewards Fans Are Preparing For A New Era On Xbox This Week

Unfortunately with the change in program, I can’t redeem points anymore. In order to redeem points, I need to add a phone number to my Microsoft account, but the account dashboard won’t let me link my phone number, because it says it’s already attached to a Microsoft account. The account in question is one that I haven’t had access to for nearly a decade and have long since forgotten any information for.

@RetroMan71 There's too many services now.

Yes, there was market consolidation when everything was on Netflix and Hulu. However, with everything spread across many services, there is still market consolidation (because the streaming services that matter are essentially just Hulu, in many pieces, that costs much more) as well as the wonderful addition of headache-inducing anti-consumer splits that reduce the end-user to a mere statistic.

Re: Xbox Had Its Biggest Month Ever For 'Play Time' In January 2024

AccessibleDaydream

@Utena-mobile I don’t know if I meant to put it, or if I overlooked it, but either way I appreciate you pointing it out.
To your point about this probably being the future of metrics, it’s shameful how the megacorporations, that effectively rule over the hobby we all share, keep setting their own bar lower and lower, while (by raising prices and reducing value) make us as consumers work harder and harder for the same enjoyment, pleasure, and happiness.

Re: Halo Infinite's Latest Update Refreshes 'Husky Raid' Playlist & Adds Free 20-Tier Pass

I was never too huge into the grind of this game, and I haven’t really played it since a few months ago for multiple reasons.

That being said, it’s terrible that Microsoft forced their hand so much that we now have what are essentially monthly $5 battle passes, because between that and the in-game shop, it seems like they’re trying to fleece us off every bit of cash, and while I’m not one of the members of the community that’s been there since 2001, those that have deserve to be rewarded, not fleeced for every last dime.

Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed At The Xbox 'Business Update Event'

@BowsersBuddy I didn’t even consider that such a device could be streaming-only, thanks for the reality check.

It would make sense to me that an ‘S’ console-like portable could start at, say, $299 for 512GB, potentially having a 1TB model for $349 or $399, with the flagship ‘X’ console remaining $499 for 1TB, just with better performance and graphics due to essentially being a desktop PC.

Furthermore, to fulfill this idea that backwards compatibility is part of Xbox’s strategy for “Play What You Want, When You Want, Where You Want”, the new portable could have a slot for the existing storage cards, while the flagship console could have more than one slot, but not at the expense of USB extended storage, I hope.

@HotGoomba It could’ve easily been a press release. As it is, we basically got a press release in video format.

As I mentioned in chat though, it’s interesting that they confirmed new hardware is coming within the year, even if we have no context of what type of hardware it is. Probably a Steam Deck competitor, now that I think about it…

Actually, I don’t think that’d be a terrible idea: take the hardware chops that the Surface team absolutely has, and repurpose the division into an Xbox arm. It could even be the next generation of ‘S’ console, with the flagship console being the much more powerful one.

Re: 343 Drops First Halo: Master Chief Collection Update Since July

I’m very happy to see they finally addressed the issue with video backgrounds resetting. At least for me, they were resetting every single time, and I thought it was something I was doing, so I kept selecting them over and over, only to eventually give up because it never seemed to stick.

However, it would be really nice to get a major update that fixes things like campaign crossplay only being available for certain titles, among many other things.

Re: Apple Opens The Door For Xbox Cloud Gaming App On Its Devices

AccessibleDaydream

@PhileasFragg At least in the EU, according to the (entirely optional) new business terms, the cut of subscriptions is down to, if I recall correctly, 10% or 17%. But, and this is a huge change, the new rules allow for payment processing to happen outside of the App Store, even if the app itself is still available there.

So, theoretically, Microsoft could adopt the same payment processing used on Xbox, without having to provide Apple with any cut.
