Ghost Recon Wildlands Goes Stupidly Cheap On Xbox Alongside Next-Gen Upgrade

Update []:

This upgrade is now rolling out on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It's being classed as an "update" to the base game, meaning it's a free upgrade, and here's a little bit more about it courtesy of Xbox Wire:

"Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites is out now for XBOX Series X|S. As a major free update, Last Rites refreshes the gameplay experience of Ghost Recon Wildlands, delivering a new story-driven mission in which the Ghosts must face off against a new antagonist, La Llorona, and Los Penitentes, her fanatic cult following."

"We also leveraged the reports from our community developers to assess the highest priorities that the community was expecting. Number one was, of course, a better framerate with the expectation of a 4K and 60 FPS update for XBOX Series X|S we are delivering today for free with Last Rites."

"Then there were some of the customizable options [...] and also some small requests we were able to translate into quick wins; for example, some items were no longer obtainable in the game because they were tied to challenges that have expired. It was easy for us to find those items and unlock them for free for everyone to enjoy, alongside quite a lot of weapons and equipment now unlocked by default."

That Xbox Wire breakdown goes into loads of detail about some of the "customizable options" that have been added to Wildlands (there are tons!), and if you want to try without paying, it's also now included as part of Xbox Free Play Days.

Original Story: We mentioned back in July that a next-gen upgrade had been leaked for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, and that upgrade looks set to go live today - details about it were revealed via the PlayStation Store yesterday.

The upgrade will introduce the ability to play at up to 4K, 60FPS on Xbox Series X (no word on Series S yet), along with quality-of-life improvements, new cosmetics and a new mission called "Last Rites" that will be free to access.

It says on the PS Store that the upgrade will be free for existing owners, so we assume it's the same deal on Xbox.

As you can see from the tweet above, Ghost Recon Wildlands has been heavily discounted on Xbox to mark the occasion, and it's actually as low as 95% off according to what we've found on the Xbox Store.

The console version is down to £4.49 / $4.99 right now, but the separate Xbox PC version is just £2.09 / $2.49.

It's worth noting that Ghost Recon Wildlands is already included as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass as well. We assume this version is the one that will get an automatic update whenever the next-gen upgrade goes live over the next few hours, but we'll let you know for sure when that happens either way.

Other Ghost Recon games such as Breakpoint, Future Soldier and Advanced Warfighter 2 have also been heavily discounted on the Xbox Store today, so you might want to add a few of them to your library!

Stay tuned and we'll share more details on the Wildlands upgrade ASAP, including whether it's definitely free for existing owners on Xbox or not.
