Re: Xbox Is Using The Most Ridiculous AI Image To Advertise New Jobs

AccessibleDaydream

@Kaloudz Hey friend! I'm not going to be mean to you here, however, I think a 'tough love' approach is needed for this one.

It's very innocently and hopefully naive to not see the issues with this one: never mind the whole "monitor facing the wrong way" thing, it sets an ugly precedent if the head of graphical design at Xbox decides to use generative AI for a marketing image. Sure, Microsoft forcing their employees to use AI is a possible move, but in this case, it seems highly unlikely that they'll fill this particular vacancy any faster.

Those are my thoughts, tough love over. Hope it makes sense, bud!

Re: Review: NBA 2K25 (Xbox) - The Best NBA 2K To Date Is Marred Somewhat By Microtransactions

“It is what it is, and it's the way of things these days”

It really, really should not be. That kind of monetization may be acceptable in Free-to-Play games, but it is absolutely not when you’re already paying between $70 and $150 for a game. These giant publishers are going to keep pushing further and further, because nothing matters to them except extracting as much money from each individual as possible , over as long of a time period as possible, and throwing our hands up by saying “oh well, this is just how it is now” achieves nothing except complicity and an openness to even worse microtransactions.

Re: Starfield's 60FPS Mode Put Through Its Paces On Xbox Series S

AccessibleDaydream

An article about Starfield and two-thirds of the comments are about Nintendo games. 😅

For the record, I don’t get how anyone can call _Tears of the Kingdom _ ugly. Sure, it’s artistic, and it’s not comparable to something like Assasin’s Creed, as an example, but it’s also not running (solely) on a portable game console that is effectively 7 years old. That’d be like expecting Halo Infinite to run on an Xbox 360!

Re: Xbox Unveils Multiple New Accessibility Offerings, Including The Adaptive Joystick

AccessibleDaydream

Since my disability affects mostly my fine motor skills, I use an Xbox Elite controller with the profiles to create my own southpaw modes in games. However, it would be even easier still if gyro usage was an option.

As an example, I remember being unable to actually play COD4 at one of my friends houses as a pre-teen, because even though the game had a southpaw control stick option, the buttons would still be in the same places. Just a few years later, however, with the introduction of Splatoon, Nintendo created a shooter with gyro controls as the primary input. Especially on the Wii U where controller layout changes were rarely a thing, those gyro controls were the only reason it was possible for me to play the game enjoyably. Still to this day, the fact that the right thumb stick only controls horizontal movement is a benefit to me, and is the reason that even gyro in Fortnite (on PlayStation) doesn’t work the same for me.

Also, the Adative Joystick does look like a nunchuk, to the point where I was describing it to someone as “it looks like a Wii nunchuk”.

Re: Xbox Begins Rolling Out 'Game Pass Standard' To Insiders For Just $1

@NEStalgia don’t forget Game Pass Starter, Game Pass Home Basic, Game Pass Home Premium, Game Pass Business, or Game Pass Enterprise. Also, please remember that in a year or two, Game Pass 7 will be replaced by Game Pass 8 and 8.1, and none of your old Game Pass devices will be compatible. If that’s not confusing enough, Game Pass 10 will soon be introduced, and then be shut down because developers chose the more popular platforms.

Ugh. Microsoft be Microsofting. https://youtu.be/hqSm7lWn-84?si=cqXEXqHa6M2dx3VP

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Forza Horizon 4 Before It Gets Delisted On Xbox?

AccessibleDaydream

I can remember how back in 2011 or so, I was at a friend’s house after school one day, and they were playing one of the Forza Motorsport games on the Xbox 360, and listening to music on the Xbox at the same time. As I had only had a Wii and Nintendo DS/3DS, this blew my 12-year-old mind.

Fear forward a few years to around 2015 or 2016, and I was at GameStop for I don’t even know what. I specifically recall, however, that there was an Xbox demo station with some Forza game (that I now know was one of the Horizon games), which I played a bit of and was once again blown away by.

Around half-a-decade later, in 2021, I decide to finally ask my dad for an Xbox for, I think, my birthday or something. My justification? That racing game from the GameStop demo in 2015 or so. So, in the end, Forza Horizon is what brought me to the Xbox*, and a few weeks later, I finally tried Halo for the first time in my life, and of course I was blown away.

*I also remember a demo for Super Lucky’s Tale, which is a game my mom and I have both enjoyed many times over in the time since.

Re: Xbox Store Wishlists Will Soon Appear On Your Console Home Screen

AccessibleDaydream

@Kilamanjaro The recent Talking Point article about the Series X/S dynamic backgrounds got me thinking about how it would be so much better to just remove the row of advertisements at the bottom of the screen, leaving just recently played games.

Yes, it’s very similar to the PS5 at that point, but I’m of the opinion that the PS5 Home Screen is not that bad at all, especially with the full-screen key art and the music that certain games have when in their tile creating a splash screen of sorts, in a way that’s only really ever been seen with Nintendo’s software on the Wii and Wii U.

I understand there’s most likely very lucrative advertising deals for Xbox in those spots along the bottom of the dashboard, but as a concession, and with all the talk about an ad-supported Game Pass tier, why not make it a benefit of Ultimate that there will be no ads on the dashboard. It’s an extremely small move, but seeing as Ultimate is the same price as ad-free Max (formerly HBO Max), it’s not an unreasonable expectation.

Re: Call Of Duty Currency Now Discounted On Xbox Thanks To Game Pass

AccessibleDaydream

@somnambulance Such a true statement. It’s remarkable to me (in a very bad way) how quickly the Overton Window in gaming has shifted from “microtransactions are unacceptable” to “you give us $20 a month for games and we’ll give you a discount on even more things you’ll never actually own” and the consensus of consumers being closer to “🤷🏻‍♀️” than “😡”.
