Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Compares Xbox's New Strategy To SEGA, Says It's A 'Balancing Act'

It's hard not to compare it with what Sega went through. However, Microsoft is in a much better situation, which means they can choose the path they'll follow. If one day they decide to leave the multiplatform strategy, there's nothing stopping them. It's not like they don't have other options if their vision doesn't bear results.

I read an interesting theory about this shift in Microsoft's business. Being a multiplatform publisher, there would be no resistance from the likes of FTC and CMA against new big acquisitions, which would mean MS could potentially buy any publisher they'd want. Is it possible this could be the reason for the change Xbox is going through?

Re: Xbox On Keeping Games Off Other Platforms: 'That's Not A Path For Us'

First party games should remain exclusive to their own consoles IMO. It's what drives the people's choice between one platform over the others. To be honest, it doesn't bother me that PS users are playing MS games on their consoles, what bothers me is that we get nothing in return.

Also it makes me insecure that it'd make Xbox leave the hardware business, because I wonder if in the next 10 years or so I will be able to access my library of purchased games. How will it work without a console to play it by then?

Re: Xbox Handheld Has A Big Potential Advantage Thanks To The Series S

@Fiendish-Beaver If the handheld does come out at the same time as the next home console as the replacement for Series S, there's one thing I would like it to be: dockable just like the Switch. That way, Microsoft would have a powerful console designed for TV and a weaker (but portable) version for the ones who'd prefer it. I'd buy the handheld over the other one.

It would have to be a digital-only machine, though.

Re: Talking Point: What Convinced You To Pick Xbox In The First Place?

I bought my brother's old Xbox 360 in 2017 since he wasn't using it anymore. I wanted to play Resident Evil 5, 6 and Revelations 2, but at that time only had Nintendo consoles and these games weren't available there. Later in 2021 I chose Series S because it was the most affordable console. I don't care about 4K gaming since my TV is 1080p, and backwards compatibility also played a role. And then I discovered Microsoft Rewards, with which I could acquire dozens of games at a low or no cost. Xbox has so many advantages that I don't even consider getting a PS5 ever.

I'd certainly love an Xbox handheld if done right. If I can access my library of games and play them without need of internet connection except for cloud saving, online multiplayer and accessing the store, then I'm sold.

Sure, specs are important too. A good quality screen with high resolution and a decent battery life and storage are also decisive factors here. And price too.
