The fantastic Firewatch was one of a batch of games added to Xbox Game Pass in late 2021, and while it might be a few years old now, various people (including Xbox's Sarah Bond) are pointing out just how great it still is.
Bond, who serves as Corporate Vice President at Xbox, took to social media yesterday to enthuse that Firewatch is "an emotional journey that will make you appreciate all aspects of life."
If you haven't come across it yet, the game is a single-player first-person mystery in which your job is to keep the wilderness safe, while also keeping in constant contact with your supervisor, Delilah. Safe to say the story isn't quite that simple, and the "edge-of-your-seat mystery" unravels as you progress.
The game scored an impressive 85 rating on Metacritic for Xbox in 2016, and while it's unfortunately never received a resolution or FPS boost for modern consoles, it's still an emotional journey that's definitely worth taking in 2022.
"Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio."

Well made, well executed game from what I have played, but I am totally not in the place for an emotional journey! If it was more lighthearted like Donut County I probably would have finished it.
I did and I really enjoyed it.
I appreciate her passion but I'll politely decline. Not my kind of game at all.
I wholeheartedly agree, a fantastic little game. Shame that they got bought by Valve and we might not see a sequel, or a different game by them until HL3 gets released.... which is probably never
Firewatch is a brilliant game. I've played it before and want to play it again... but there's just too much to play right now.
Started and finished Superliminal over the weekend. Short and brilliant. Highly recommended for anyone that liked Portal, The Stanley Parable or The Witness.
@Sol4ris I feel the same. Real shame to see Campo Santo disappear into the monolithic Valve, I was really looking forward to In the Valley of the Gods. Yet I imagine getting the call from Valve was a dream come true at the time for the team.
Purchased the game years ago and had a wonderful time with it. Really recommend it to anyone willing to try a walking sim. It’s fantastic.
I played it last month and enjoyed my time with it.
Hang about Sarah lemme just smash out my last Halo 360 online chievo and I'll be sure to pounce on Firewatch 🤣
Not bad considering i bought Reach 3 4 and ODST 2 weeks ago and already done all the online stuff except one chievo
Didn't really do anything for me when I played it. Each to their own though. The world would be a crappy place if we all liked the same things.
I'm about half way through, and really enjoying it. It's the kind of game I really enjoy.
Played when it first released on ps4, absolute gem of a game and I like games like this that are short but good to play in between the big releases
@Medic_Alert it's only 4-5 hours long, surely you can fit it in your time somewhere 😛
Really enjoyed this on Mac years ago. Been meaning to revisit it. To everyone saying it's not their normal style of game it wasn't mine either but rate it as one of the best gaming experiences you can have. And it's super short too.
I played it for a while and it's one of those indie walking simulators. I guess it's a good one if you're into that type of thing, more of a hiking simulator I guess.
Only 4h long? That's exactly what I need while I wait for Spelunky 2 next Thursday. Thanks for the tip, Mrs. Bond!
Played for about 45 minutes. Boring. Poor performance. Couldn't relate to the characters. Not for me.
Good tip. I really enjoyed it. Good atmosphere, characters and story (confession-I played it on PS4).
I loved it when it first came out on PS4, and also the dynamic Firewatch theme stayed on my console for years, it was gloriously chilled.
I actually played today and finished in a single sitting. It has a few odd things that I feel are not well explained but it is fairly enjoyable (and as I am not a fan of thrillers it had just enough for me not to turn it off)
Finished it a few minutes ago, and it was indeed great. Just wish it would have received a performance boost, as the low resolution, pop-in, low shadow quality etc really hurt the experience and immersion. Highly recommend this one.
I played this just after "Lake" and loved both games, I guess I'm in the mood for slow paced games at the moment. It's great to see this quality in independent games. Not every great game has to be a 50+ hour AAA game.
