Re: Talking Point: If GTA 6 Releases This Year, What Does Xbox Do With Fable?

Ryu_Niiyama

Game’s gotta come out some time. Obviously don’t release same month but other than that it doesn’t matter as GTA is an evergreen title. But for the few of us with no interest in GTA (hi) then it means losing a game if MS delays it to avoid GTA. Avowed is already a miss for me (I didn’t realize it was a spinoff/sequel so I gotta go play those games ) so short of starfield, coral island and street fighter 6…not much on my docket right now.

Re: Poll: Xbox Fans, What Review Score Would You Give Avowed So Far?

Ryu_Niiyama

7 for me but I expected that. Hoping it picks up a bit.

Edit: I didn’t know this was part of the Pillars of Eternity gameworld. I may stop playing and go play those. Also now that I know this I better understand what this game is. I was expecting an interactive world like a Bethesda game which focuses more on you inhabiting the world and lore than individual story. Avowed is more like a JRPG or like original Fallout. The world is a set with limited interaction and the focus is the story. As such I may put this down until I am ready to invest in the story. The gameplay is still a 7 to me but once I understand the story better it may elevate the overall experience. That being said I was hoping for an immersive fantasy game so I will head back to starfield (trying to resist the urge to replay Skyrim again).

Re: Avowed Is Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (February 18)

Ryu_Niiyama

Combat and movement feel floaty but I am hoping I get used to it. I have to break Bethesda habits as I am disappointed I can’t pick up everything and loot bodies like a graverobber. This is a personal gripe but the reactions to the godlike really, really annoy me. I’m not invested in the story yet as it feels like a retread of GreedFall. The world is pretty though. Not sold on this game but grateful to play on gamepass.

Re: Talking Point: When Did You First Get Introduced To The World Of Xbox?

Ryu_Niiyama

Technically I saw the first E3 showing but was both unimpressed with the games and too young to buy a console anyway. And my focus was on college prep in a few years. Didn’t get a xbox (360) or ps2 until college (needed a system to tide me over until the wii came out since I left most of my gamecube games at home to focus on the heckscape that was my studies. ). Only got my 360 because of VF online. Best and worst decision I have made as a gamer. (Best because VF version C is my favorite version. Worst because the 360 was the most defective game system I have ever owned. ) Xbox did get me more seriously into PC gaming though so I certainly appreciate that.

Re: Phil Spencer Says Xbox Is Done Trying To Convince PS5 & Switch Players To Move Over

Ryu_Niiyama

Xbox just needs to get as many games as they can. People have as much loyalty as their choices. For instance I hate the Sony layout but bought more PS4 games than xbone because my favorite genre (fighting games and at the time the Yakuza/LAD series) got more games than Xbone. Now this gen i am migrating back to xbox as my main secondary (Nintendo is always first) because I can play my favorite games on series x and if I have a choice I pick sony last. Game systems are there to play games. No games, no customers. Also why I am going back to PC next gen. I can get all my games on PC (minus Nintendo) so why keep buying 3 boxes?

Re: Xbox Praised For Putting 'Lots Of Effort' Into Store Curation Compared To Sony & Nintendo

Ryu_Niiyama

@BAMozzy Wow that escalated quickly. Yes, I am from the US so I use those grammar rules when reading text. I didn’t say you couldn’t use anything or express yourself so your reaction feels excessive, but you are welcome to feel how you wish. I simply asked why you used single quotes because it was distracting for me and I wasn’t sure if it was a formatting issue or not as we all use different devices. Also, since such punctuation isn’t used on this UK based site to the same extent you use it I was confused by your usage. Again, I didn’t know if it was formatting or not. Asking a question about usage isn’t a criticism. I would have asked the same question if I saw someone using a capital letter for each word.

Also I gave an example of how single quotes are used in US English. In US English an apostrophe is used to denote plurality or a contraction. And single quotes as opposed to double quotes are used to embed a quote in a quote. So it was honest confusion.

Nonetheless, I seem to have offended you so I will stay away from you and your comments. To lessen any further misunderstandings I politely request that you do the same. Again sorry to have offended you, won’t happen again.

Re: 30 Xbox Series X|S Games To Look Forward To In 2025

Ryu_Niiyama

Since most stuff doesn’t have a date and I wandered back into starfield, as of right now I am only getting AC:Shadows and Fatal Fury. Not a lot on this list I am excited for but that might be for the best. I am an American getting dental work done so I am pretty much bankrupt already. It’s the second day of the year. I hate everything right now. I am literally looking for a second job so I can pay for medical bills.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox Saga Just Got A Whole Lot More Confusing

Ryu_Niiyama

@Friendly NP. Honestly and this is my wild arse hot take opinion but devs have been trying to throw hardware at poor optimization for a while now. Instead of using tricks or lighter engines to make their game work or a different art style and scale it properly.

While not perfect that is why I respect Nintendo internally deved games (key word is internal though they have some good partners). BOTW/TOTK would have been a straight up powerpoint presentation if Nintendo hadn’t done a lot of tricks under the hood (and both games still aren’t perfect) but a lot of these devs, especially the ones used to working on PC, are not adjusting well. Even now devs are hyping up the ps5 pro because they want consumers to pay for more expensive hardware because they couldn’t get their games out in a solid state on base hardware. If you can’t get your engine to run well day one on base (series s in xbox’s case) console hw I am at the point that I wish devs would release on PC and then just wait a year or two until they figure out console. Or delay the games altogether. Because all they are doing is pushing for price inflation by complaining to hw manufacturers that they need beefier hardware. They need to scale back match both base hw specs and their skillset as devs.

I am defo going back to PC after this gen though. It’s not the console manufacturers fault imo but this is getting silly.

Re: Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox Saga Just Got A Whole Lot More Confusing

Ryu_Niiyama

@Friendly the ram is split into two pools, and I believe that 2GB is OS reserved. Too low VRAM kills games all the time. Seeing as the devs aren’t specialists at optimizing for series s (which will just get the game out the door if they are mind you no telling what it will look like) and they have a low pool to start and depending the load on the ram pool due to how the game is built (I haven’t played it yet) it does make sense. Different example but I had texture mods for skyrim kill a gpu that ran the vanilla game on ultra. But trying to load that many cells in 4k nuked my card. Second I switch to a card with higher vram, game ran like butter. All mods on. Not enough vRAM can absolutely kill a game and a shared pool is even worse. It’s probably not worth the money for the devs to get an xbox specialist dev to strip and retool the game to get it series s ready.

Re: Bethesda Games Would Be 'Better' On UE5, Claims Former Skyrim Artist

Ryu_Niiyama

The creation engine needs an update (and has gotten one in Starfield ) but it is pretty versatile from a modding, and world building perspective (for queuing sidequests) and based on the games I have seen in unreal I think that while unreal can make pretty games I don’t think it will be as useful for Bethesda style games.

Modding has shown that the creation engine can render a beautiful game (all my mods are texture mods) but it would cook a lot of gpus. I literally had skryim force me to upgrade after my lighting mods were too much to handle.

Re: Talking Point: Next Year Marks A Decade Since Xbox's Genius Backwards Compatibility Program

Ryu_Niiyama

@Balaam_ Virtual Console was on wii and wiiu. People complained about pricing, upgrades on wiiu and selection while buying the same popular games over and over. NSO likely saves Nintendo on licensing and since they curate the library they (mostly) focus on the games people keep buying every gen. Other than that they changed media with the switch so physical bc would have not worked. Xbox’s bc is great but they also iterate their consoles making it easier to pick up and toss to the next system. Plus Nintendo already said NSO is going to the successor. Plus many games are a licensing nightmare to port forward. Plus no VC meant more collections with games that VC didn’t get and more retro games overall.

Re: New Elder Scrolls 'Remake' Announcement Rumour Surfaces Online

Ryu_Niiyama

@jesse_dylan ok. You didn’t say either of those things when you initially tagged me. So was I supposed to read your mind and infer your logic?

Not every company outsources a remake. And I never mentioned anything about Todd Howard. I responded to the speculation of the article. So again. Oblivion is on modern systems already. I would rather bethesda focus on TES6.

Re: New Elder Scrolls 'Remake' Announcement Rumour Surfaces Online

Ryu_Niiyama

@jesse_dylan you seem to be taking swings at everyone but I will bite. So you are on good authority of this how exactly?

Bethesda Game Studios made oblivion, skyrim and presumably is working on TES6. So you are saying that no one from that dev group would work on an oblivion remake? So if true that is even worse. And if not which is what I suspect as you have provided no evidence to the contrary I would rather bethesda game studios work on TES6. Especially since they were stalled by starfield. Either way however oblivion is available on modern consoles. So I would rather they focus on TES6. Thank you.

Re: YouTuber Breaks Down Xbox's 'Almost Perfect' New Ad Campaign

Ryu_Niiyama

Personally I have loved this campaign from the start but I’ve been saying since I was a teenager when xbox came out that MS wants in as many homes as possible. Tech access changes lives and enriches them (with moderation of course) ao anything that breaks down barriers in gaming is good. And from a business perspective this is better for MS as a whole. Imo.

Re: Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Redefining What It Means To Be An Xbox Fan'

Ryu_Niiyama

@Utena-mobile Edit. The post I originally put here was way too long. I gotta stop trying to explain myself on the internet. TLDR: my speculation is about the mobile and PC space (facilitated by owning King) offering a marketing angle to women that were not xbox’s target demographic. Any posts about the age of the demographic but not the sex or an anecdotal response is not relevant to my comment. I think that is more succinct than my previous text wall.

Re: Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Redefining What It Means To Be An Xbox Fan'

Ryu_Niiyama

@Utena-mobile and “old people and retirees” of what biological sex? You are responding as an enthusiast/gamer. I said the female demographic that is not often the target of xbox exclusive games, which includes non enthusiast gamers that still play games no matter the age group. And while I don’t play a single game on mobile I don’t dismiss other women and girls who do.

Nintendo for instance reported an uptick of female gamers due to animal crossing new horizons and the animal crossing pocket camp game on mobile. Those are the women and girls I am talking about as traditionally gaming doesn’t advertise to women and girls as a whole. We get lumped into the family, gaming for everyone and pink ghetto marketing but general marketing (and games…look at how many games state they can’t have a female protagonist for “reasons” or just simply won’t give women the option) is still aimed at the male demographic. Millennials and Gen X gamers have been conditioned to just “deal with it” because there were either few games marketed to us as girls or all the big mainstream games only had a male protagonist. I suspect for Gen z and alpha which have grown up with more diverse games, character creators and more access to non gaming specific platforms such as mobile and PC means that MS is in a prime space to market to those women and girls. So I am still curious as to what MS is going to do as publishers of one of the highest grossing and played games on mobile that has a significant female fan base.

Your anecdote is not relevant to my post or speculation.

Re: Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Redefining What It Means To Be An Xbox Fan'

Ryu_Niiyama

@Phil-Spencer-Gate with MS owning King I am very curious as what they are going to do with mobile. For one that can tap into the female gamer demographic that is often not the target of xbox exclusive games. Personally I am still hoping for an xbox OS on PC. I already play games with an xbox controller on PC, just need that centralized.
