@Balaam_ Virtual Console was on wii and wiiu. People complained about pricing, upgrades on wiiu and selection while buying the same popular games over and over. NSO likely saves Nintendo on licensing and since they curate the library they (mostly) focus on the games people keep buying every gen. Other than that they changed media with the switch so physical bc would have not worked. Xbox’s bc is great but they also iterate their consoles making it easier to pick up and toss to the next system. Plus Nintendo already said NSO is going to the successor. Plus many games are a licensing nightmare to port forward. Plus no VC meant more collections with games that VC didn’t get and more retro games overall.
@jesse_dylan ok. You didn’t say either of those things when you initially tagged me. So was I supposed to read your mind and infer your logic?
Not every company outsources a remake. And I never mentioned anything about Todd Howard. I responded to the speculation of the article. So again. Oblivion is on modern systems already. I would rather bethesda focus on TES6.
@jesse_dylan you seem to be taking swings at everyone but I will bite. So you are on good authority of this how exactly?
Bethesda Game Studios made oblivion, skyrim and presumably is working on TES6. So you are saying that no one from that dev group would work on an oblivion remake? So if true that is even worse. And if not which is what I suspect as you have provided no evidence to the contrary I would rather bethesda game studios work on TES6. Especially since they were stalled by starfield. Either way however oblivion is available on modern consoles. So I would rather they focus on TES6. Thank you.
Personally I have loved this campaign from the start but I’ve been saying since I was a teenager when xbox came out that MS wants in as many homes as possible. Tech access changes lives and enriches them (with moderation of course) ao anything that breaks down barriers in gaming is good. And from a business perspective this is better for MS as a whole. Imo.
@Utena-mobile Edit. The post I originally put here was way too long. I gotta stop trying to explain myself on the internet. TLDR: my speculation is about the mobile and PC space (facilitated by owning King) offering a marketing angle to women that were not xbox’s target demographic. Any posts about the age of the demographic but not the sex or an anecdotal response is not relevant to my comment. I think that is more succinct than my previous text wall.
@x3King84 so I am still hoping for an OS in order to maximize compatibility. I essentially don’t want to have to buy an xbox if I have a sufficiently specced PC. MS hasn’t gotten there yet. But to answer your question, no I don’t use the xbox app.
@Utena-mobile and “old people and retirees” of what biological sex? You are responding as an enthusiast/gamer. I said the female demographic that is not often the target of xbox exclusive games, which includes non enthusiast gamers that still play games no matter the age group. And while I don’t play a single game on mobile I don’t dismiss other women and girls who do.
Nintendo for instance reported an uptick of female gamers due to animal crossing new horizons and the animal crossing pocket camp game on mobile. Those are the women and girls I am talking about as traditionally gaming doesn’t advertise to women and girls as a whole. We get lumped into the family, gaming for everyone and pink ghetto marketing but general marketing (and games…look at how many games state they can’t have a female protagonist for “reasons” or just simply won’t give women the option) is still aimed at the male demographic. Millennials and Gen X gamers have been conditioned to just “deal with it” because there were either few games marketed to us as girls or all the big mainstream games only had a male protagonist. I suspect for Gen z and alpha which have grown up with more diverse games, character creators and more access to non gaming specific platforms such as mobile and PC means that MS is in a prime space to market to those women and girls. So I am still curious as to what MS is going to do as publishers of one of the highest grossing and played games on mobile that has a significant female fan base.
Your anecdote is not relevant to my post or speculation.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate with MS owning King I am very curious as what they are going to do with mobile. For one that can tap into the female gamer demographic that is often not the target of xbox exclusive games. Personally I am still hoping for an xbox OS on PC. I already play games with an xbox controller on PC, just need that centralized.
I just wish the timed releases would stop. I basically only buy exclusives on day one. Because anything that might be third party may go to another platform.
I just need MS to make an XBOX OS that allows for the reading of all gens of xbox discs in a compatible reader on PC. They keep dancing around it. Just let me pay to turn my PC into an xbox please. I love the system agnostic approach but they need to make a native OS for PC.
@SleeplessKnight I don't love everything about them but I am a fan of MS and most of their products as I work the MS stack for work. Prefer that to the other stacks (Oracle, AWS, Apple) that I am certified to work in. People had options even during MS’s worst monopoly days. Many still would have chosen the MS stack.
I still say this was the plan from day one. Xbox was never about video games. It was about getting an MS hub into as many homes as possible. Video games were just the medium they chose at the time.
Oh snap a “real” Ninja Gaiden game?! I respect the 3D ones but have always wished for a return to form. The DS game was the closest but still not the format (or control style) that I wanted. I’m hoping this will be good. 2025 is starting to feel like third party gaming I care about. Just need a TES6 surprise announcement at this point.
I’m so scared right now. This is either going to be amazing or the worst thing ever. Okami is probably if not my favorite game , one of the most influential on me after street fighter and Virtua fighter and LttP. I need this to be amazing. I am gonna go hug my statues now.
But either way it gives me new taiko music to learn lol.
@Fenbops you are making an argument from an economic perspective for the consumer. But your comment doesn’t entirely feel relevant to mine. Consoles have always been closed ecosystems … the “console wars” are built on that.
Gamers have gone increasingly digital either due to convenience (I am in that camp) or price and despite that more and more games are digital only there hasn’t been a lot of price gouging that I have seen (and no games going up 10 dollars every few gens is not price gouging). Meanwhile Sony is slowly eliminating the disc drive altogether and since xbox wants to be device agnostic that is likely next as well. So you are trying to compare why PC gaming went the way it did from an economic perspective (consumer side) when that isn’t what happened. PC gaming unilaterally went digital only. Even with piracy and at the time with far less store fronts. Because it saved the companies money. And since the market didn’t buckle we know that people will bear it. So like I said gamers kept buying games.
The same will happen with console. A vocal minority will complain, some may exit gaming or switch to pc but most will continue on as normal. Which was my point. Economics really doesn’t change that. People will still buy games.
As I said. I welcome it. I have more furniture to keep my physical games organized than I want.
I remember when PC gamers sounded like this for a little while (myself included). Industry moved on and folks kept buying games. I have less empathy this time around.
Consoles are slowly becoming computers. Personally I welcome it. It is such a hassle moving a large physical collection (let alone the furniture needed to house/display it.)
Never played anything by this dev but I am assuming this game will be good (for those that want it. IJ is not my cup of tea. Never liked the movies.) as MS won’t want to waste the license cost.
This is my last MS and Sony gen. PC will give me access to multiplats and Sony and MS games so I plus other PC only games so I will shrink back to Nintendo/PC. I will be buying much less for a while anyway.
Halo,Gears, Forza… all franchises I have no interest in (but have tried to be certain) fable (and sunset overdrive) is middling for me as well. I don’t play xbox for the exclusives (before the purchase of Bethesda… but I will get TES on PC so probably moot point). I play for the controller. PS controller hurts my hands and Nintendo doesn’t have parity. I have never been the intended xbox audience but I buy them all the same. So long as they keep getting mutiplats that Nintendo doesn’t, I will be here.
I suppose since AoM and AoE are on console I finally have xbox franchises I love but I will switch to PC once TES 6 comes out (redoing/possibly building a new gaming PC for TES6).
@InterceptorAlpha OK, that’s fair. Like I said I am not really following the game and just going off of surface chatter I have heard.
DLC isn’t required for me. Many/most? Of my favorite games have self contained narratives. Sometimes I don’t want a game to overstay its welcome. Due to the nature of the story for dragon Age which is heading for a conclusion, no DLC makes sense to me to close out the story. If the are going to put out DLC matching the game they would likely have to introduce a new conflict/Villain and that would sorta upend the tea table. I never finished Witcher 3 (not my cup of tea) but to my knowledge it wasn’t focused on closing out the world narrative (as the book series is longer) so extra DLC fits just fine. There is more story to tell. DLC should always be made with a roadmap/plan and not just to extend the game for revenue (obviously that is a perk) imo.
@GamingFan4Lyf Wait what? I was really speaking in context to this long running series that according to bioware has a connected narrative and an extended universe. That imo is different that just judging a stand alone game getting DLC or DLC in general. That being said I do miss when DLC was just extra content rather than required to understand the story. Or needing to read a comic or watch a show to keep up with the game story. I got into games because the narrative was originally self contained. That being said I am assuming with all the games and books and comics and movies in the DA franchise that they can close out the series neatly without DLC (at least they should be able to). So I don’t see no DLC in this instance as a bad thing. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear but it was a small part of my post.
@InterceptorAlpha So I say this with the caveat that I am not really following the game but the devs seemed excited and were thanking the fans upon release. Could be PR but I assumed that meant the game hasn’t flopped out of the gate. Since I haven’t finished Inquisition I am waiting n Veilguard to get down to the bargin bin.
No DLC isn’t necessarily bad if they told a complete story. The series and its extended universe has been around for a while so they be done done. Honestly I wish more companies would do that instead of letting the story mutate and get stretched until it doesn’t connect to the original game anymore. (A complaint I have with DA as a whole.)
Can’t base a future paycheck on long past success. Their last active project flopped. That’s lost revenue. Hard to convince anyone that salaries should be paid when they don’t generate revenue.
In a vacuum I would say Mass Effect 1. Objectively though I would say Jade Empire. For me, Bioware doesn’t make good sequels so JE was a wonderful standalone game (even if they left some story threads. )
