Id Software is back, and their next game is out sooner than you might think! Bethesda's FPS expert has announced that DOOM: The Dark Ages is launching in just a few short months on May 15, 2025 - and it'll be available day one on Game Pass now that the studio is a part of Team Xbox.
This has all been announced during today's Xbox Developer Direct showcase, where the team gave us a very detailed look at the new DOOM game. Id Software says that this is a "perfect entry point into the series" with a "more approachable" take on gameplay - but that by no means equates to an easy DOOM game. The Dark Ages is simply adding more options for players to take the game on however they please.
Elsewhere, we're getting "the largest play space ever in a DOOM game", containing "some of the most ridiculously powerful weapons we've ever created" - including the 'Shield Saw'; The Dark Ages' new signature weapon. It all looks bloody bombastically brilliant, and we recommend checking out the team's new trailer up above if you haven't already.
Finally, the dev also confirmed that music studio Finishing Move is handling the soundtrack this time out, following the series' split with Mick Gordon after DOOM Eternal. We'll have to see how the franchise's famous audio tracks weave into The Dark Ages, with Finishing Move previously working on Halo, Borderlands 3, The Callisto Protocol and more.
