Certainly unlikely for them to give up on the Series X? What? They have already given up on it. unclear console strategy, no exclusives. I hate to admit but they have given up already. I haven’t bought a Xbox game since Alan Wake 2 in 2023 and don’t see that changing soon, all my new game purchases are on PS5 and Nintendo, while I only use Xbox from my legacy library and my prepaid gamepass subscription, which is valid until 2028 (which was the right move given recent events). I have zero faith on Microsoft and investing anything on their platform, they don’t seem to prioritize it so why would I?
Weird GamePass effect for me: If I owned the game, I think I’d buy it 100%. But I’ll never buy DLC for a game I can play through a subscription. I enjoyed the base game a lot, did 2 playthroughs, but I’m kind of done with it to consider it buying it….but then if I had bought the game instead of gamepass I’d be all over the DLC.
Wow, I’m glad I switch to Ps5 as my main machine this gen. Xbox seems totally directionless. Keeping my Seties x for prepaid gamepass , but not investing one additional dollar in the platform.
@oopsiezz If xbox had to put game on Playstation so that the Xbox division was profitable, that's on them, not us. We're just taking advantage of a subscription THEY offer, and is one of the few good deals left for consumers in gaming (and frankly one of two reasons why I retain my Xbox Series X, along with my legacy library). Can't blame the consumer for using a subscription we pay for. I buy games for my PS5 Pro, but for games available on Game Pass, I play them using my subscription, even if the PS5 Pro could give me better graphics.
@Decoy_Snake They accepted the deal. It might have been a good or a bad deal for them, we don't even know, but they accepted it. At the very least, it gave them some sort of security I assume. It's their CFO's job to ensure their profitability, not mine. I pay for a subscription which I intend to use to my advantage.
I thought I would be one of those who would try it and bounce off as turn based gameplay is my style. But I have to admit, I’m hooked. 7 hours in, and can’t wait to get more. It’s a brilliant game.
The whole software industry has shifted to a subscription based model because it is more lucrative…..yet some people somehow still believe that Gamepass isn’t. They are even deprioritizing consoles and doubling down on gamepass,…
@IOI Exactly this. Xbox used to be my platform of choice for multiplatform. However, since last year that changed and I haven't bought a single title for Xbox. Only use it for my GamePass subscription and library, but all my new software purchase are done on my PS5 Pro. Alan Wake 2 was my last purchased Xbox game. Sad, as Xbox was my preferred platform for years.
I played this a few times in my iPhone and iPad. It was entertaining I guess if I have no access to anything better, but I didn’t get all the fuss about it. If I’m sitting on my Xbox, I’d rather play any other game over it. For me it’s just a mobile time killer, nothing more or less.
@jesse_dylan gamepass has been great lately. STALKER 2, Indy, Avowed, Call of Duty and of course, Indy. All of them bangers. There have been times to complain about it, but now isn’t one of them.
Release killer games this gen first please. Indy is a good start and I’m confident that DOOM will be great. But seems crazy to think next gen where we haven’t had a single Gears game and most big releases like Halo Infinite and Starfield were disappointing.
@Secryt LOL, well if Microsoft doesn't prioritize their own platform, why should we, right? That said, GamePass proved to be tremendous value over the last couple of months, I enjoyed the Black Ops 6 Campaign (my first Call of Duty game in probably a decade), STALKER 2 is great and of course Indy is incredible.
I have no doubt it is bright as a brand - Call of Duty by itself will secure that, and as long as they put out quality titles like Indy they'll do fine.
What is disappointing is that the console is definitely become a side collateral. I used to buy all my multiplatforms on Xbox while I would have my PS5 exclusively for Sony exclusives. Given that the console doesn't seem to be at the top of their priority list, this year I haven't bought a single game on Xbox - all of my purchases were done on PS5 including multiplatform (DD2, DA Veilguard, etc) which I would have otherwise bought on Xbox. Why invest on a platform that is no longer Microsoft's priority? It will continue being my GamePass machine, which is all paid up until mid 2027, but for actually purchasing, my money will go to Sony (even if I decide I want to buy Microsoft games like Indy, I would do it on PS5 despite enjoying it on GamePass).
@Bigmanfan Really? The combat is really a highlight for me. Very refreshing sneaking through nazi camps picking shovels or whatever you can find to knock them out. Whenever I find a new nazi camp I know I'm in for a fun time and even try random things like making sure I alert them then running and kill them from a strategic location or so on.
Xbox has become my Gamepass machine officially, and only because I stacked up until mid 2027. No need to spend a dime in a doomed library. All my multiplatform purchases will be done on PS5 from now on.
@G4n0nD0rf you’re free to play as you wish. No need to announce it either. The developer is just recommending headphones for an optimal experience. But what do they know, right?
I have posted this elsewhere, but my take is this: 1. I don't see them exiting hardware at all. I think they'll continue to sell Xbox consoles for the foreseeable future. 2. They'll make most games multiplatform - but with a caveat. They'll be timed exclusive and on Gamepass day 1. This way if you want to play on release, you have to either get an Xbox or PC. Or you can wait for it to be available on the Playstation or Switch successor, at full price, a few months later. This way, there is still an incentive to own an Xbox (included in the subscription and day 1) yet the take the revenue from the other platforms.
I’m ok renting games I. Don’t card much about and want to try. Stuff I really like I want to own. Don’t care if it is music, movies or yes, especially games. The day they take that out then I’ll use piracy.
Unpopular opinion here. I have never liked turned based combat. But bought for PS5 because of the hype…..and just reaffirmed I don’t like turned based combat. Good waste of $70
@Lup Arkane Lyon is known for the Dishonored games and Deathloop. The last thing that crosses through my mind when I play those is generic. Literally, they’re the exact opposite.
@Altaria_97 Across all systems it is one of the strongest years I can remember. Dead Space Remake, Hogwarts Legacy, Metroid Prime Remastered, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Jedi: Survivor, Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, Spider-man 2, Super Mario Wonder are all great games that I have thoroughly enjoyed, I am not even mentioning Baldur´s Gate 3 as it is not my type of game, but most people rate as excellent.
I actually loved getting lost in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. Not very excited for this as the RPG and immense world is what I loved about those, with Odyssey being my favorite.
@themightyant I think the Xbox series x has the more powerful hardware. But since developers target PS5 because the have the largest market share, games look the same or even slightly better in the PS5
Ah no visiting New Zealand for this…almost here, just 3 more weeks. I’ve missed my Xbox as mostly I’ve been focused on Final Fantasy 16 and Tears of the Kingdom, but now the PS5 and Switch are taking a break.

Nah, already played this one to death. Great game, but not interested in revisiting at this time. I’m sure I will at some point though

@BacklogBrad Yeah, Microsoft’s words are VERY reliable these days, we should absolutely trust them

@CallMeDuraSouka you don’t own your disc games either. You own a disc that grants you a license to play the game.

Re: Opinion: Thanks To Xbox Game Pass, I've Just Changed My GOTY For 2024
I never saw the fuss for this one. Good time waster in mobile. Phone, but nothing I’d play if I have access to my consoles.

Re: Four Xbox Games We've Given 'Outstanding' 10/10 Scores To In 2024
I enjoyed Dragons Dogma 2 but in no way it’s a 10. If that was a 10 then Indy would probably be a 12, yet you gave it a 6
Re: Talking Point: What Other Xbox Games Do You Want Patched To 60FPS?
Both Red Dead Redemption games. But if I had to pick, I'll be happy if they only do 2!

Same thing i already own. Don't need more storage. Might upgrade my PS5 to the Pro if it really exists.
