@NEStalgia it doesn’t matter what they are saying though. The game is a modern RPG which typically covers a couple or more of the traditional RPG mechanics like levelling systems, gear upgrades, the option to choose abilities, build classes, inventory bla bla, but doesn’t cover them all. It then sits under the sub genre of action RPG which are games mostly focused on the combat aspects rather than the narrative ones. Battles usually occur in real-time, and the player frequently control a single character rather than a party.
Look I totally get where you are coming from and agree with you that genre needs to be redefined because games like GoW which also have these traits in (skills trees, gear upgrades, central narrative) can also fit in this. From a traditional RPG aspect this game doesn’t fit but neither do a lot of modern RPG’s these days. Even some of the older final fantasies didn’t tick all the boxes of a traditional RPG but FF16 is in the same subclass as Dark Souls and Zelda and square themselves have stamped it into the Action RPG genre.
Just because the media say it is for me doesn’t make it so. I can see we will both die on our respective hills and your reasons are sound but so are mine. It’s a great game though and if you can get onboard that it isn’t a traditional approach to the series it’s a really great experience.
I would never defend Jim Ryan because he is the definition of a snake but Phil doesn’t half talk some crap too. Microsoft’s entire strategy is to destroy their competition in all aspects of their business. They even had coined the term for it internally at one point. I work with Microsoft everyday and I’m a big fan of a lot of their products but to play the victim in any of the industries they sit in is laughable. Phil just makes a fool of himself whenever he speaks. I’ve never known anyone speak so many words and saying very little. Jim talks when nobody wants to hear him. They are both making utter tits of themselves right now.
@NEStalgia I get what you are saying but it is still an RPG even if it doesn’t lean too deep into the traditional RPG mechanics and is quite shallow in that respect it doesn’t remove it from the genre. It’s like passing an exam by a single mark, yeah you just managed to scrape it but you still passed.
@Moonglow I agree. FF16 should be able to be enjoyed by all. I’m playing it now and it’s great but I’d rather choose where I play it where possible.
Sony fanboys and Xbox fanboys celebrate each others misery which is insane I agree.
With CoD Microsoft have committed to 10 years so it has been suggested that it could go exclusive once that expires and no I’m not specifically referring to CoD but about the entire IP of a publisher being locked down.
Jim has always been a snake everyone knows this so nobody is surprised to see this. I agree people can change their minds based on the conversations and discussion they have later on. I was dead set on getting Redfall and then saw what a mess it was and changed my mind. I don’t understand why everyone is getting bent out of shape for in getting ABK under Microsoft anyway. Why would you actively want something to be exclusive that’s multi platform? It is beyond me. Microsoft has some great IP there and if they focused and nurtured the talent they have they wouldn’t need to seek buying up publishers and fighting in court. What a waste…
@Arcnail I wonder how GamePass games work with PS though in terms of Dualsense. I imagine there would be no Dualsense support for those games unless MS actively developed a PS version for GamePass.
@dreadful these games will do a lot for damage for sure but not the nail in the coffin. Playstation Studios games hold up well on their own and then there's a large amount of players (core) that are big on Japanese games which PlayStation is home to. If MS bought Square that would really hurt.
@PhhhCough I understand that but a lot of people don't have both too. Just because we do doesn't mean it's a good thing. I'm lucky to have everything but I feel for those who are affected by reduced access.
I notice a lot of comments with this "tit for tat" approach. If you truly want to game anywhere you wouldn't advocate a ton of franchises going to one place. Even if Sony would do it (and I'm sure they would) as gamers its not in any of our interests to advocate multiplatform games being exclusive to one platform.
@XxEvilAshxX both MS and Sony do this and neither of them own up to it. I don't think they need to spell it out. This is just business. It became a meme that MS didn't have any games and now they've done something about it. Both make a crap ton of money on digital sales (and peripherals for MS). It is in both their interest to have you invested in their ecosystem simple as. I don't necessarily like it but I can understand why they do it.
All this did for me was cement my decision to move away from consoles because the future looks most favourable for my PC.
@StylesT can't see them making CoD exclusive at least in the immediate future. Too much of a cash cow on MTX. Maybe down the line they will by having all of the exclusive content etc.
@StonyKL anyone who thinks the death of the competition is a good thing is not a true gamer in my opinion. Comeptition breeds creativity. Always should be about games not platform. Platform is your preference to play the games. This mad mentality of "us vs them" serves more purpose and those that advocate it seemed to have lost sight of what it means to be a gamer. If I was to side with a single platform I would miss out on great games like Ori or God of War. My preference would be all games available anywhere so I can choose where to play not what to play.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'm hoping that's the case. MS games already on PC and with Sony PC division I'm hoping they bring more content across. That will seal the deal for me 😀
I think this battle of acquisitions is making me wsnt to just stick to PC for everything now. Seems like the safest bet. Having a PS5 and XSX was meant to compliment each other so I could choose where to play but MS and Sony are seemingly removing that choice as time goes on. At least with PC it's all in one place and if it doesn't go on PC then oh well.
Overall its a good idea. Competition is good and keeps MS and Sony humble. Both have had a history of going arrogant between successful generations and the competition always helps to calm them down and put gamers first.
I don't follow the notion that day one games are a must have and its worthless if it doesn't. Value is determined by the gamer so if there are a ton of games on there that aren't day one but I see as value then that's a winner in my book. I've only played one day one game on gamepass and I have still reaped the value from a ton of other games I never got a chance to play/buy and some I might never have taken the plunge.
A day one game for me is one I was going to buy anyway. If its on GP on PS Plus bonus. Otherwise I'm loving exploring content I may have swerved otherwise.
@Dsswoosh I agree with point 1 Gamepass is way ahead if Now although the Now content is actually a good offering for the price point.
Your second point is massively incorrect. Sony don't care about the consoles making a loss. They need people in the ecosystem for digital sales which is where they make their money. The Sony Gaming division is in the best place it has ever been and is being heavily invested in for this reason.
Microsoft are operating GamePass at a loss but they are playing the long game to win subscribers over and they have the funds to be able to adopt this strategy.
I'll happily eat my words if you can source this "going bust" trajectory though.
@sjbsixpack sorry but I'm a big PlayStation fan and this is way off and just stinks of fanboyism. Why even make this comment? All those games are great that much we agree on but your comments are just stupid. The numbers might work in your favour now that Sony are offering backwards compatability for PS4 games so yes you "technically" have a point but Xbox does backwards compatability so much better. People like you fuel arguments where there isn't one and to be honest you just p**s general gamers off with your pathetic devotion to a brand that quite frankly doesn't give a ***** about you.
Xbox users get to carry some of their older libraries over. Unfortunely for me mine are all locked into the old PS gens with the exception of the PS4 so I cannot play my old stuff. That's the selling point for Xbox Backwards Compatability.
My backlog is that big at the moment that I just shrug my shoulders when something gets delayed... I would go as far as to say a tiny bit relieved that I have more time before something new comes out! 🙄
As much as I like the idea I want to see MS step aside from the Holy Trinity and focus on some new and original IP's. Sony offer a lot for me in this space and although we have some of the established IP's coming which I'm looking forward to (Fable, Elder Scrolls) I want to see them step outside their comfort zone because I think they can bring a lot to the table with all the creative talent they have.
I know we have Starfield and Avowed coming which is great and I'm looking forward to to them but it would be good to see more. Once they've fattened up on new IP's then they could look at VR either teaming up with a third party or doing something on their own.
@Dezzy70 having the choice to consume however you want is the better option. I prefer digital over physical and I don't feel like I'm being forced to consume this way. I've done it ever since it was an option. These games still have physical copies so nobody is being forced (yet).
I mean they are both as bad as each other. Seeing both videos made me cringe that there are grown ass people saying these kind of things to each other.
She definitely let the women's side down playing the victim after she gave as good as she got. They are all pathetic. I can't take them seriously because of the words that came out of their mouths. ***** talking like a bunch of 12 year olds. They need to grow up.
@WallyWest apart from making the vaguest nonsensical statements you have ever seen he is also very good at contradicting himself. To give Phil credit he has done a lot for Xbox and boosted it to new heights and I think he's the right man for the job but he does talk a lot of *****.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree with everything you have said. But those superfans that Phil hates and says ruins the industry will attack you nonetheless.
Understood your comments completely. I think some are missing the point that the post wasn't about Sony or Nintendo it was about Phil and Xbox and how his comments are butting against Microsofts activity.
If Jim Ryan said this I would be saying the same thing here too. MS and Sony are always countering because that's what competition does. The hypocrisy is the pill that some people can't swallow. If they want to buy out studios to consolidate the industry go ahead just don't chat ***** about how you are not trying to eat someone else's slice pie when it's oozing out of your mouth.
I don't trust Phil or Jim. Even when they say the right things they are usually behind a forked tongue.
Just to add before any crucifies me too I love playing on my PS and Xbox. I've just finished ME2 on PS5 and Scarlett Nexus on my XSX on gamepass so don't paint me with your blue or green brushes!
@JON22 they are not fans in my opinion more like followers who treat the gaming as theology rather than a hobby 😆. Halo has enough of a fan following that it doesn't need ***** like that. Personally I'm not a big fan of Halo but I respect its fanbase enough to know it can stand on its own two feet!
Doesn't matter who the platform holder is. None of them give a crap about any of us. We are just money going in the bank to them. Whether it's a publisher, small developer or the giants like MS, Sony and Nintendo. None of them do right by us. Only what will make them more money. I would believe otherwise if they were not for profit. This notion that one is a Saint and one is a sinner isn't real. Just a lot of good marketing.
I think the UI is mostly fine but it is very clicky. A lot of menus within menus. Personally I prefer the PS5 one but even that one can be jarring at the best of times The only reason I prefer the PS5 is the level of simplicity it brings but the Xbox UI doesn't need any major improvements and its consistent if anything. The PS3 interface still makes me sick today... You can't please everyone and everyone will want something that improves it for them personally.
I think the only time I really look at any UI is when I switch games. This is really a complaining for complaining sakes thing.
I've not played it yet but I doubt this will bother me. I never track the battle passes and challenges and just play how I want. That being said I can see why this would wind people up who are into this.
@SplooshDmg 🤣 100% I never gave a damn about any trophy but my plats. The others were just in my way...
But some people will like that trophies and achievements give then a sense of direction. As humans we seem to be very fond of the old tick in the box. It's that sense of satisfaction that we did something and it's off the list so to speak.
Some games do keep the overall platinum in line with the objectives of the game which is the way I liked it. I platinumed FF7 (original) and it was the normal things I would do in a final fantasy game anyway. I like to beat all the bosses in all my games so it worked quite well. I did FFX though too and that one sucked big time because you had to do all the stupid mini games which nearly killed me (RNG is not my friend in any game).
@SplooshDmg I see where your coming from. I never thought if it like that to be honest. I think I know that achievements/trophies are useless in general and I have just gravitated to the ones that are aesthetically pleasing hence the PS trophy system. The Xbox one is definitely a more balanced system with points achieving an overall score which is the better way to do it. But when it came to trophies the popping sound with the trophy in the corner was where it was at for me.
I look at my trophies now though and think about all the time I wasted trying to get 100% rather than playing more games. Since dropping the chase I've experienced so many different games. I even completed Chronotrigger on DS recently. Of course those who continue to chase trophies and achievements if that's their thing then that's great. I feel like stopping has unleashed me and allowed me to enjoy more games 😃.
@SplooshDmg I'm with you on this one. As far as the achievement system goes Sony's is far better but I got too addicted to the platinum hunt too. I made the decision this year to stop hunting for trophies which has made me play more games, play the games properly and how they were intended and also play on all my platforms rather than targeting my PS5 for games I wanted to 100%. I'm getting a lot more out of all my systems and I'm enjoying playing games a hell of a lot more now having stopped trophy hunting.
I am pleased to say I am not one of the folk that buy games for an easy platinum though. Some games are made for this reason alone which sucks.
@Dalarrun until you learn to read your whole foundation crumbles.
How am I blaming consumers for having a conscience when I am literally voicing my opinion on protecting those who are innocent who work for Activision? 🤣
God you crack me up. Its been fun. Its been emotional and I thank you for your time.
@Dalarrun each individual responsible for their own actions. Which is what I've been saying the whole time are you thick?
Read all of my comments please. They all say hold the criminal to account. Boycotting is literally withdrawing your consumption from the business. The jobs ARE in the hands of the public if the public collectively boycott the organisation. No revenue equals cuts. This won't stop people from being sexually abused. There's a part of the brain that makes this happen regardless of making money or not. Some people are just sick.
Think of this like a disease. If you burn the body first you never resolve the root cause of the disease. If you investigate how to fix the disease then you can find the cure and prevent it from recurring.
I can't be any clearer. The INDIVIDUAL should be held to account. The INDUSTRY needs to do more to prevent it.
I have literally said all the things you are supporting and you seem to be misreading this and attempting to argue against me with my own argument. I can't be bothered commenting any further because you are a broken record and are boring me. Sorry.
@Dalarrun The point I'm making is pretty clear. In fact I couldn't be clearer. You seem to have trouble reading which is a necessary skill to argue the point so I'm going to leave it at that with you. Thinking dragging down an entire company down and ruining a lot of other people's lives along with it is cheap and easy way out and doesn't address the root cause. There are better ways to deal with this than the new method of cancelling everything.
Wasn't there something in the media about Bill Gates being inappropriate in the workplace quite recently too?
If you want to boycott then boycott away but please also make sure you assess everything you consume because there are more than just Activision products that are stained with exploitation. If you are going to make that stand then make a full stand not half baked one.
I mean this isn't as bad as people are making out. CoD charges full price and you have to buy the battlepass. I know you get the campaign and zombies too but a lot of people tend to buy it for the MP.
@Axlroselm really?? You never get the feel good moment when someone walks past you in the game and says "hey nice boots man". I get shivers everytime...
@Dalarrun of course I want him out if he's guilty who wouldn't? That's not my point at all. My point is boycotting Activision isn't the way to deal with HIM or any offenders. This burn it to the ground mentality when a small number of people do wrong is borderline sociopathic. The business entity did not commit the deed rather the individuals. Remove them yes 100% but not the entity they have used to commit the crime. I've already said if you don't want to consume their products yourselves then hats off to but personally I am not judging the many by the deeds of the few.
If it came out that Satya Nadella had been sexually harassing people I wonder how many of you would stop playing on your Xbox and cancel your gamepass subscriptions. Because the logic that is being discussed in these posts indicates that is exactly what you would do.
@Whybox I understand the frustration but there a lot of families out there that do care. It is all too easy to say tear the house down when are unaffected by it.
Displacing people is not the answer. You should not lose your job because someone else is a piece of s**t. This keeps creeping into the media so we will be tearing down businesses all day long along with many peoples lives.

@JayJ I don't think you know what "streaming only" means.
Re: PlayStation Reportedly Creating Xbox Game Pass Competitor, Set To Arrive Spring 2022
Sounds good to me. It doesn't need to be a GP competitor but can exist in the same space.
Re: PlayStation Reportedly Creating Xbox Game Pass Competitor, Set To Arrive Spring 2022
@JayJ you can download PS4 games on PSNow 100%.
Re: Xbox Dev Asks Fans Not To Spam Her With Requests To 'Change The UI'
I think the UI is mostly fine but it is very clicky. A lot of menus within menus. Personally I prefer the PS5 one but even that one can be jarring at the best of times
The only reason I prefer the PS5 is the level of simplicity it brings but the Xbox UI doesn't need any major improvements and its consistent if anything. The PS3 interface still makes me sick today... You can't please everyone and everyone will want something that improves it for them personally.
I think the only time I really look at any UI is when I switch games. This is really a complaining for complaining sakes thing.
Re: Halo Infinite's Fracture: Tenrai Event Is Causing Frustration With Fans
I've not played it yet but I doubt this will bother me. I never track the battle passes and challenges and just play how I want. That being said I can see why this would wind people up who are into this.
Re: Xbox Responds To Calls To Add 'Platinum Trophy' System For Achievements
Re: Xbox Responds To Calls To Add 'Platinum Trophy' System For Achievements
Re: Xbox Responds To Calls To Add 'Platinum Trophy' System For Achievements
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
@Dalarrun until you learn to read your whole foundation crumbles.
How am I blaming consumers for having a conscience when I am literally voicing my opinion on protecting those who are innocent who work for Activision? 🤣
God you crack me up. Its been fun. Its been emotional and I thank you for your time.
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
Sorry.
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
Re: Forza Horizon 5 Celebrates 10 Million Players, Biggest Launch In Xbox History
@LtSarge agree with this. Gamepass is really pushing the brand to wider appeal. Good to see the variety across platforms too.
Re: Halo Fans Grumble About Infinite's Free-To-Play Model, 'Would Pay Full Price To Unlock All Content'
I mean this isn't as bad as people are making out. CoD charges full price and you have to buy the battlepass. I know you get the campaign and zombies too but a lot of people tend to buy it for the MP.
Re: Halo Fans Grumble About Infinite's Free-To-Play Model, 'Would Pay Full Price To Unlock All Content'
@Axlroselm really?? You never get the feel good moment when someone walks past you in the game and says "hey nice boots man". I get shivers everytime...
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
@Trmn8r I see what you are saying but it's not like they would have known this so I doubt people will judge them for it.
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
Re: Here's What's Included In The Xbox November 2021 Update
@PopularCorpse I think I have a crap TV hahaha
Re: Phil Spencer Reportedly 'Evaluating' Xbox's Relationship With Activision
@Whybox I understand the frustration but there a lot of families out there that do care. It is all too easy to say tear the house down when are unaffected by it.
Displacing people is not the answer. You should not lose your job because someone else is a piece of s**t. This keeps creeping into the media so we will be tearing down businesses all day long along with many peoples lives.
