Re: PS5 Pro Surprisingly Loses To Xbox Series X In HDMI Bandwidth Test

NoCode23

@Nexozi, I only put my CDs into my PS3 one time each
to save to the hard drive. Then I transfered what I wanted to a thumb drive and can play it on my PS4 and during a game if I wish.

Also PS4 game screen shots and video can be transfered to a thumb drive and then play better on my PS3 after I download to play from the hard drive. Scrolling through screen shots is faster and the image can be quickly cropped. Video has playback speed options including near frame by frame.

I don't have PS5 so I am not sure what I can do other than I know I can't copy game saves to a thumb drive like can be done on the PS4 and 3. Also like the PS4 the 5 does not have a Cd player and can not play music CDs and PS1 game discs like a PS3 can.

I was envious of the original Xbox back in my PS2 days. I could play music CDs, but not while playing GTA.

Re: Rumour: Xbox's PS5 Ports Have 'Slowed Down' Following Indiana Jones Announcement

NoCode23

At present there are studios closing, layoffs, long waits for new games, and talk of how new AAA titles cost too much and take too long to make. That's not a good place to be in to limit game sales.

A one or two year exclusive window will still keep a game associated with the console brand it is first playable on and will provide more overall sales. For example MS could put a game day one on GP and then released on Sony a year later. MS still maintains the attraction of GP, Sony gamers get a game they otherwise would not.

I am not advocating no future games being exclusive to one console brand. However the reality of the huge investment now in AAA titles may near automatically make it not possible to limit game sales total income by exclusivity to one brand. Future exclusives may be in the lower cost indie type projects.

Re: Heaven 17 Musician Insulted By 'Pathetic' Offer From Rockstar Games For GTA 6

The 1968 movie Bullitt has an iconic car chase scene, the two cars are a 1968 Ford Mustang and a 1968 Dodge Charger. Both muscle cars of that era, and that Mustang being the personal daily car of the lead character Steve McQueen and featured the entire movie.

So how was that all determined? There were many other muscle cars to pick from. Did the movie makers pay to feature the cars used or was the movie makers paid to use those two particular cars?

An old movie from the 1940s I viewed recently has a box of laundry soap in plain view and was a real and common used product at the time. Who was paid for that product placement and the product placements in other movies and visual media.

A song that is used in a video game could be defined as a form of product placement. Video games like GTA will play the entire song and may be given credit by the in-game radio dj and is in the game credits. So who should get paid, the band, writers, or game makers?

Re: Four Years Later, People Are Still Getting Confused By Xbox's 'Horrible' Console Names

NoCode23

Since the beginning knowledge of game consoles has been needed to make the desired correct purchase. For gamers that has been relatively easy to a point. That point being the name of a console does not identify new or lost features of one generation compared to another generation.

Xbox has too many X's and S's. What would any slim or mid gen upgrade be called this generation? Series X-S for a slim X, a Series S-S for a slim S, and Series X+X for a more powerful mid gen X? Then next Gen could be an XX with an XX-S for a slim XX?

Just call next gen XBOX 6 or XB6 and make it simple to identify generation along with the PS6

Re: Talking Point: Rockstar Fans, How Hyped Are You For GTA 6?

NoCode23

I'm hyped in a weird cautiously optimistic hope they don't mess it up kind of hype.

Maybe 3 months from release I will feel the anticipation for 6 that I felt for GTA 5 three months from it's release in 2013. That was about as hyped I have been for a release, right there with the June 2015 E3 announcement of Fallout 4 to be released that coming November in 5 months.

Re: Hellblade 2 Will Display With Black Bars Outside Of Ultrawide Mode

NoCode23

Is it true 2.39:1 or a cropped 16x9? Of the 4 screen shots here 2 have the tops of the heads cutoff. The Evil Within looked cropped when comparing pre and post patch images.

Overall composition needs to fit the ratio. 2.39:1 can look horrible on close shots with poor composition. I call it the venetian blind technique, as it looks like I am viewing through a raised blind slat with the top and bottom sliced off.

On my old 16x9 TV I can easily use cinema zoom to slice off some of each side of a 2.39:1 image to fit my screen. However that works better with older movies and not the newer movies. The older ultra wide movies usually look good in both wide and ultra wide. New movies usually do not, and that's because of composition. New movies look like a 16x9 image cropped to 2:39:1 or wider to give an ultra wide look. That's why I ditched Netflix and watch TCM, better movies with better cinematography.

Finian's Rainbow, a 1968 musical is a good example of proper composition when using a panoramic wide image in movies. Both 2.39:1 and 16x9 look good even with some of the sides cropped in 16x9 ratio.

For HB2 I see a 16x9 patch soon after release.

Re: Remedy's Max Payne Remakes Will Have 'Similar Development Budget' To Alan Wake 2

NoCode23

@Mindurbiniss
Your tv may have ratio options that you can experiment with. My LG tv has cinema zoom that I sometimes use for 4:3 and 2.40:1 images that cause black bars at the sides or top and bottom on my 16:9 tv

My cinema zoom enlarges the image without stretching distortion. I can zoom from 0 to 16, at less than 16 I can move the image up or down to allow less cropping of the top or bottom of a 4:3 image.

PS2 gen games look and play best to me in their original 4:3 ratio as apposed to stretching or cropping tp fill a 16:9 screen. However some zoom that leaves less wide black bars is worth experimenting with. Some games of that gen have a wide screen option but is usually stretching or cropping. Scarface and and Gun are two that seemed to have a real wide screen option. I don't remember what options came with Max Payne on PS2 or my PS4 port. Anyway Xbox may be different.

Fun games regardless of image ratio, well except for that crying baby, I hate that.

Re: Talking Point: In Your Opinion, What Made The Xbox 360 Era So Incredible?

NoCode23

I used a PS3 during the 360 gen. That gen was special for the amount of great games, exclusives and multiplatform. Many of those games where then even better with the next gen versions on the PS4 and Xbone.

Along with great games was the many new features such as HD, dlc, patches, updates, and the multimedia functions. High speed internet and online play became common as the number of games with online play increased. That gen is also when so many of us purchased our first HD flat screen tv.

Overall great games + new features was a good recipe for a gen to be special, and may be why the current gen seems so meh with not much new and and not many great games to date.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like A Detachable Disc Drive For Xbox Series S?

NoCode23

It is long overdue for S owners to have a way to verify owning a disc copy of compatible 360 and One games. Some may have lots of discs before deciding to go digital and then there was the issue of Series X availability scarcity while Series S was more available.

It seems an inexpensive drive plugged into a USB port would suffice to verify ownership, same for the X if it's drive stops working.

Re: Pick One: Which Is The Best Bethesda Game Studios RPG?

NoCode23

I have played Fallout 3, 4, NV, 76, Oblivion and Skyrim plus the dlc. 76 was just a few hours a year ago, streaming, and 2 thumbs down to that.

I will go with Skyrim from my list as the best rpg because of all of the character and game options. However Fallout is much more my type of game so my favorite is probably whichever one I am currently playing. Fallout 3, I first played a month after release in 2008, is very special to me, like a first love. Then there is FO4 and the hundreds of hours I have enjoyed in settlement building and maintaining.

Re: Pick One: Which Franchise Do You Prefer, Red Dead Or GTA?

NoCode23

Overall for me it is the GTA series. Both are fun but GTA is crazy stupid fun and that counts a lot for me. Red Dead 1 and 2 may have superior stories, however GTA 4 and 5 also have good stories.

My answer to the question of which games made me feel like a kid on Xmas morning unwrapping a gift when unwrapping my just purchased video game, Red Dead or GTA, is a GTA game.

Re: Far Cry's New Director Is Teasing 'Big Things' Ahead For The Series

NoCode23

For FC 7 I would like more character development of the protagonist prior to starting the main story. World War 2 and Africa could be an interesting time and location. Sinister crazy Nazi experiments, lots of wild animals, and beautifull landscapes.

I would also like no screwball idiot factions like those in Far Cry 6. Also from 6 ditch the jarring first person to 3rd person switch when in certain locations, or give a disable option. Human companions like in Far Cry 5 along with some cute pets like Chorizo, Cheeseburger, and Boomer.

Re: Video: Red Dead Redemption Comparison Pits Nintendo Switch Against Xbox Series X

NoCode23

The X looks higher definition while in most scenes the Switch has better lighting. Better as in brighter where the X version looks too dark in many scenes.

Overall this comparison looks like many comparisons where one version has segments that looks set darker than I would ever play a game. The results then is that the supposedly newer or better version often does not look better than the older or inferior version it is compared to.

Re: Xbox's New Game Pass Tiers Are Causing Confusion Around Online Multiplayer

NoCode23

@Nalverus, Well It's all new to me as I just recently did a comparison of MS subs. My bad for assuming that a higher cost sub would include all of the features of a lower cost sub.

In a way it's like a shop that sells 3 sizes of subs. Small and large have cheese and tomato slices, but sorry no cheese and tomato slices on a medium size.

Re: Xbox's New Game Pass Tiers Are Causing Confusion Around Online Multiplayer

NoCode23

I am not confused, but I am shocked.

About 2 weeks ago I compared MS and Sony subs. I did so because I have considered upgrading from my PRO to a Series X instead of a PS5. And I was shocked, shocked to find that all three tiers MS offers do not include full online play.

I have no confusion about the new Core tier as 2 games per month is replaced by a mini Game Pass list. Also no confusion abou how GPU will now have less for more with the 2 "free games" dropped while also getting a recent increase in monthly fees.

Also not confused about tactics being used to steer customers to higher priced sub tiers and product purchases.

Re: Digital Foundry Posts Huge Breakdown On Why Starfield Runs At 30FPS On Xbox

NoCode23

@NEStalgia, well said and I agree 100%. Make games for the gen relased in. 60 fps should be the standard built from with other frame rate options if needed. Needed for perhaps compatibility with different monitor specs.

My take on Starfield technically so far is; yikes/yuck no 60fps, and lots of blur and image softness from depth of field use, global illumination volumetric techniques, and haze and god rays. Along with that TH used the words motion blur.

The worst has to be TH using the most unwanted word, to me, about a video game. Cinematic. Its a video game not a movie. Totally 100% not the same thing. Want Cinematic? Fine, make a movie.

All that said Starfield may have a great story with fun game play, but will need mods like Fallout 4 has to make it look better along with a wait to next gen or mid gen to play at 60fps.

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S

NoCode23

No 60fps option for a game on an X or PS5 is telling me that it's a game designed for next gen or mid gen instead of current gen. As wait till next gen console to play the good version. The definitive/ enhanced edition.

Overall 60fps is noticeably more fluid than 30fps and free of, for me, noticeable camera movement blur.

Re: Best Resident Evil Games Ranked - Which Mainline Entry Is Number One?

NoCode23

My 2 favorites are the original 4 and 5. The amount of game play and replay value are my reasons. Both games allow the player to get better more powerfull weapons and more ammo carry through replays. Replay of chapters in 5 allowed for farming of items.

Overall all RE games are fun, the suvival challenge. However the og 4 and 5 also have replays that allowed me to go from weak to bad@$$ if I wanted to, and I wanted to.
I have not played the 4 remake yet but will.

Re: Xbox Co-Creator Reveals He Talked To Microsoft About Classic Console Idea

NoCode23

This is what I thought 2-3 years ago that Sony could do. My PS2 slim cost $125 in 2006 and PS3 super slims with 500GB hdd were $199 5-6 years ago. So a console that played digital or disc PS1,2, and 3 games could be about $275 in 2020-21.

A re-released OG X-BOX is a good idea, but like my idea there may be licensing problems, music removed, and maybe not compatible with those fun code discs like Game Shark.

Re: Hands On: Resident Evil 4's 'Chainsaw Demo' Has Us Wanting More

NoCode23

10, yes ten. That's how many bullets Leon starts with. Seriously, no addional mags in a belt pouch? Anyways that weak 9mm is really just a stun gun. "Ouch, I have taken a bullet to me knee", said one infected before he buried his hatchet into my left shoulder.

I tried, but failed to lead one infected to step into a bear trap. Then after he threw his hatchet at me he crabbed another from a rear pocket.

The knife may wear and break, but I found it very affective and satisfying to use.

I like the controls and the amount of settings options. Too dark for me if using recommended settings. Good graphics and smooth frame rates on my PR0 and 1080p tv playing on performance mode. However half the time this demo made my PRO sound like jet taking off. I now plan to wait until I upgrade to a 5 or an X to play the full game.

Re: Dead Island 2 Extended Gameplay Revealed Ahead Of April Xbox Launch

NoCode23

@Gamecuber, Riptide also performed poor on my PS3 with micro stutters the entire game. I have the full definitive edition and it plays great, including Riptide, on my PRO. On my regular PS4 the frame rates are not as smooth. The specs of the Series X "should" provide excellent performance of this definitive edition.

Re: Dead Island 2 Extended Gameplay Revealed Ahead Of April Xbox Launch

NoCode23

@Gamecuber, have you played Riptide? If not it is much better for guns than the first Dead Island. Shotguns are very effective, carry more ammo, craft ammo at the many crafting benches, gun mods, and play as Purna for gun perks like 54 max carry of shotgun shells.

Also Riptide has easy solo duplications of any item that can be dropped. Well at least on the PS4 definitive version I play. There is a flare gun given free early that you may enjoy.

Re: Video: DF 'Face-Off' Draws Interesting Comparisons Between Xbox Series S And PS4 Pro

NoCode23

The comparisons with the PS4 Pro is lacking in how the PRO performs on a 1080p screen at 1080p as apposed to higher definition settings on a 4K screen, and in performance mode if offered. There is also boost, super sampling, and possible hdd or ssd upgrades.

I use my Pro on an old LG 1080p and Gta 5 looks good and has smooth frame rates, off or online. Same with Borderlands 3, Far Cry 6, Stray, TT Wonderlands, and Vice City definitive edition when using performance mode. At 1080p I notice no drop in detail but
notice the improved frame rates with or without a performance option. Higher/smoother fps does inherently make games look better to me as motion blur is reduced.

Pro vs S? The S does and should outperform a Pro, it is the newer gen.

Re: What's All This About A Cheaper, Ad-Filled Version Of Xbox Game Pass?

NoCode23

@ZYDIO, excellent rant. Video gaming is currently a pleasant ad free place I can live in. I want it to stay that way. The few ads on my PS4 ui can be removed immediately. Those ads are also only for stuff like game on sale and are only one square.

It is somewhat surprising that ads have yet to have invaded video gaming on consoles like it has in other media. Paying less for game pass that has ads could be just the tip of a nasty iceberg.
