Re: Alien: Rogue Incursion Jumps From PSVR2 To Xbox Later This Month

Glassneedles

@Fiendish-Beaver There was an AvP game released in 1999 from Rebellion (who do Sniper Elite) and Monolith (of NOLF, F.E.A.R., and Shadow of Mordor fame) did the followup in 2001.

The original game is up on Steam as AvP classic and is good but AvP2 was so much better. The Alien campaign (alongside a Marine and Predator one) was the first game (as far as I know) to do the full lifecycle. So you have a level playing as a facehugger then chestburster before getting on to the main event.

I haven't played it in a while but from my memories all 3 campaigns were pretty good (Alien one being my favourite) and the multiplayer was very chaotic. As I said it's unfortunately to available to buy but it's pretty much abandoned so it is very easy to find.

Re: Remedy 'Hoped' For A Better FBC: Firebreak Launch, But Game Pass Is Helping

@vanYth once you’ve done a mission on level 3(which I think is unlocked at the start now, I unlocked them all before then;arch that did this) you can redo the mission with 1-3 object of powers randomly added. These are effectively randomisers adding an element to each run. You get ones where the enemies are all fast or gravity is messed up and things like that.

It does help keep the missions from getting stale oh though I have found matching with randoms that some people are way too effective at destroying them so you barely notice they are there.

Re: Surprise! Bethesda Has 'Enhanced' The First Two DOOM Games On Xbox Game Pass

Glassneedles

@stefan771 just going for Xbox releases but off the top of my head Doom 3 limited edition, then Doom 3 Resurrectiom of Evil expansion both on the original Xbox, Xbox Live Arcade on 360 which is backwards compatible with Xbox One then the Unity port in 2019 and now this.

The only major consoles since the mid 90s not to get a port are PS2, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.

That’s only counting official ones though. Id open sourced the code back in 1997 hence all the ports to everything under the sun. If you can get code to execute on a device it is more surprising not to have a Doom port of some sort. I’ve even seen versions running on stuff like the ZX Spectrum albeit terribly.

Re: 8BitDo Unveils The First Official Wireless Arcade Stick For Xbox

Glassneedles

@NEStalgia The Switch version is $90 US so even cheaper. If you look online there are plenty of pictures of Switch disassembled in greater detail than the 8bitdo released pictures. I doubt they are reinventing the wheel here when they already have a very similar stick.

Looking at it it looks broadly feature compatible. It has the same toggle so the stick can function as either analogue stick or the D-Pad. It makes it a lot more versatile since some games map exclusively to the analogue stick or D-Pad.

The software for it is pretty good, you can fully remap the buttons and even set up macros on it. I have seen people say the macro set up is fiddly and it isn't as useful as it could be but it's there.

Build quality is pretty solid for the Switch one and based on all the 8bitdo controllers I have (which are a lot of them) it should be solid on this.

I actually prefer it looking plain rather than having art for a particular game on it, but your idea of having plexiglass you can install your own art behind is pretty damn good too.

I had been looking at installing a cross gate in mine since I really like Pac-Man but seeing how I would need to dismantle it and change it over each time put me off that.

Also since I have a DualSense Edge too I thought I'd chime in and say I'd recommend this over an Edge any day. I like mine but it really does not feel premium enough for the money, with the Elite controller it feels so much nicer in your hands than a regular Xbox controller and the Edge just doesn't have that.

Re: 8BitDo Unveils The First Official Wireless Arcade Stick For Xbox

Glassneedles

@NEStalgia I bought it as my first arcade stick so not an expert or anything. Just had a quick google and couldn’t find an answer on what buttons/stick were in them. A review (geek out.ph said “Sanwa feeling” so I don’t imagine they are top of the line or anything. On Reddit as well they recommend upgrading to Sanwa parts.

I got mine as it was £75 and worked well on switch and pc. Speaking as a newcomer to sticks I quite like mine and if I get further into them I can always upgrade the stick and buttons.

Looking at the Xbox one it seems it’s a bit more expensive, I don’t know if that takes it into the price range of more premium ones or not.

Re: 8BitDo Unveils The First Official Wireless Arcade Stick For Xbox

Glassneedles

@NEStalgia if it’s like their PC/Switch one you can plug it in to used wired.

I’ve got their already existing one which looks very similar to this minus the audio output and it working on Xbox. It’s a nice stick for the price (even if this one is a bit more expensive) and it’s very customisable. I don’t play fighting games but it works well with arcade conversions and just generally 2D games.

Re: Soapbox: I Spent £150 On A Harry Potter Game And Have No Regrets

Glassneedles

So I can completely understand this purchase. I too was a potter kid and Chambers of Secrets was one of my favourite Gamecube games. What I especially liked was if you squinted a bit it was kinda like a Zelda game with the lessons where you pick up new spells being dungeons and having the spells assignable to the face buttons.

Sadly I had Philosopher's Stone and Prisoner of Azkaban on PC which were nowhere near as good and by the time I realised this they were getting up there in price. I think Philosopher's Stone was so expensive is because it was released 2 years after the movie and was a year after Chambers came out. Because it didn't have the hype of a movie alongside it and it already existed on a lot of platforms sales weren't as high.

Re: Soapbox: 15 Years Later, I'm Still Not Over The Poison Apple That Ruined My Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Save

Glassneedles

@gollumb82 I am your man for this! Recently put 20ish hours into both Oblivion and Morrowind.

I would hands down pick Oblivion for your situation. Morrowind is great and the setting is more interesting than Oblivion’s more generic imperial province but there are 2 things I’d hold against it:

1, Animations do not necessarily match behind the scenes. Basically it uses a D&D style hit chance percentage to determine if you do damage or not but even if you miss the animation is the same. Basically it can look like you are hitting an enemy but you aren’t.
2, The compass. For oblivion they streamlined the missions so you can always see where you need to go. I actually really like Morrowinds direction system but it does require a lot more engagement and I’d recommend starting off with something like Oblivion.

2 things to note if you haven’t played a Bethesda RPG before. Once you have the xp to level up you need to sleep to actually gain the level and beware the oblivion persuasion system, the faces aren’t the best and they can get super creepy with the way the system works (this one is really oblivion specific but I’ve had nightmares involving one of the NPC laughter samples )

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Is Also Freezing For Some Players On Xbox Series X

Glassneedles

I’ve had it freeze for 10-20 seconds 4 or 5 times over 10 hours of play so far. I thought it might be loading assets but I had it freeze in front of Lizzies Bar while waiting for the clock to hit 6pm for a mission. I had been spinning in circles for a good few minutes then a sudden freeze before my spins restarted.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Approached Several Japanese Devs About A Buyout

Glassneedles

I’m fine with them buying anyone except square enix and that’s purely so they can hopefully release the rest of their RPG back catalogue on the switch which I have been patiently waiting for since 2017.

Maybe a no for ages too just as I want them to get desperate enough to ask Nintendo to try developing a sonic game but that’s extremely unlikely!

Re: Poll: How Many Xbox Consoles Have You Owned In Total?

Glassneedles

I’m on 8 because I was really really unlucky with RROD and went through 5. Then replaced the one that survived with a slim (cost me £95 in a Black Friday deal in 2012). Got an og Xbox one a few years later and then upgraded to an X.

Very excited about getting my series X!

Re: Rumour: Could The Xbox Series X 1TB Expansion Card Be Upwards Of $200?!

Glassneedles

Yeah I was expecting around this price with SSD prices. Hopefully they will come down with the increased demand from the Xbox and PS5.

My current plan is to storage swap until they are a bit more reasonably priced. I was considering picking up both consoles this year and hadn’t budgeted for an extra £300-400 on storage. Also don’t want to repeat my switch SD card purchases starting with a 128GB then jumping to 256 then 512 and now eyeing a 1TB but it’s so bloody expensive....

Re: Kingdoms Of Amalur Looks Like It's Getting A Remaster This August

Glassneedles

@Richnj for me it was Motorstorm Apocolypse. I still actually remember the day pretty well. It was may 2012 and I decided to try it for the first time (had bought it a few months previously) and half way through my second race it just went.

Managed to get a PS3 Slim (not the second refresh) at Sainsbury's within a few hours and brought my phat back to life by wrapping it in a towel and using a hairdryer which I had always heard could work but was still amazed. Got the save games off and swapped in my bigger hard drive to the new one before realising not all my saves had been brought across (also lost my Sly 3 save and similarly not gone back to that).

Mine was a launch japanese model so got a good 6 years out of it and the slim was a big upgrade (my model didn't support 50hz output for Blu Rays, had an older HDMI standard so didn't do bitstream output, some games were censored automatically as it was on a japanese firmware like Uncharted not having blood, and O and X were swapped in a lot of games) and that's still sitting beneath my TV.

Still did better than my 360 which I had 4 RRODs between 2006 and 2008.

Back onto Kingdoms of Amalar I will probably get it on Switch unless the graphics have been significantly upgraded on Xbox.

Re: Kingdoms Of Amalur Looks Like It's Getting A Remaster This August

Glassneedles

I’m so bloody excited for this. I played a good 40 hours of it on PS3 before a YLOD. I managed to get my save games off it but it turns out this didn’t let you move the save games off... didn’t realise till after i had wiped and moved the hard drive and couldn’t face replaying it all again.

7 years later I am now ready. Just need to decide Xbox one x or switch... (assuming it comes to switch)
