The first reviews for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning have gone live, and they seem quite mixed! We've rounded up just a few of them below, so let's see what reviewers are saying about the game so far:
Note: These reviews are all taken from the PS4 version of the game.
GameSkinny (9/10)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning might have one of the worst titles ever for a remastered re-release, but thankfully, that doesn't reflect on its quality. THQ Nordic has taken what was already a rock-solid action RPG, improved the pacing and balance, and shined up the visuals just a tad to give us what I think is one of the purest, most streamlined, and downright fun-to-play RPGs of this entire generation.
Dualshockers (8/10)
"With so many other remastered and enhanced ports on the market offering new features, content, and more, the offerings presented to fans with Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning are disappointing. This port comes across less as the best way to play the game and more just the most convenient way to play it in 2020. Luckily though, Kingdoms of Amalur is still a damn fun game to play in 2020, jankiness, and all."
TheSixthAxis (7/10)
"Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is a good solid remaster, just don't expect much to have changed compared to the original. The world is as magical fantasy as you could get, and it really does draw you in, but some technical issues and a number of repetitive quests can dull the otherwise colourful experience."
IGN (6/10)
"Its fast-paced action still entertains, for the most part, and there’s plenty to see and do in its big world – but after almost a decade of innovation and improvements, it no longer feels particularly extraordinary, and the technical issues it does have are far less excusable. Re-Reckoning is a good reminder of what made the original so great for its time but, more importantly, it’s a testament to how far we've come in the decade since."
Push Square (No Score)
"Today, we wanted to bring you a full review of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. It was one of our favourite action RPGs of the previous generation, and we were looking forward to playing through it all over again. Unfortunately, we've been unable to do that. A game-breaking bug has destroyed our progress through the game not once, not twice, but three times, and beyond that, frequent crashes later in the adventure have killed any hope of us seeing the credits roll."
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning doesn't have a Metacritic rating yet on Xbox One at the time of writing, but on PS4 it's currently scoring around the 75 mark. The game launches tomorrow, September 8th.

I’m still getting it. Been super hyped for this since THQ got the license in 2018. Will there be a pure Xbox review at some point?
Hmmm what I have been hearing does concern me, bit everything I hear about it is the PS4 version.
@FraserG Any word on how this performs on the Xbox One? Will Pure Xbox be doing a review on this?
@Glassneedles @Tasuki It's not something we're planning to review this time, and I haven't spotted any Xbox reviews in the wild yet.
@FraserG That's a shame but I know you guys probably have a bunch of game.to get too. Keep up the good work and yes let use know if you see any Xbox reviews in the wild.
played on Xbox one x a couple of hours runs great. I have had only a sound bug. it's a great game.
Maybe it’s just a PlayStation issue with the bugs then?
I was actually really excited for this, as I missed it on the 360. But we’ll see how the Xbox version turns out first. I have the 360 disc & if it’s backwards compatible, I could just do that instead.
@KelticDevil It is backwards compatible.
@Tasuki
Thx for the info. 👍🏻
Played this for many hours now, and looks like the patch worked, as zero bugs encountered since.
