Re: Here's A Look At The Updated Xbox Studios Roadmap For 2024 & Beyond

Giantkiller

Honestly the showcase got me excited about gaming, so much so I'm probably going to move over to Xbox for a year or so...

HOWEVER!

They really need to stop showing games without a release date, more so even a release year. There's a significant number of them games that have been excited but could be out in 3 years or more which shouldn't be the case. If I had my preference I wouldn't hear about a game until it's a year or less away, I really don't see the point in having 3/4/5 year build ups, inevitably what happens is the game 'seems' a letdown because of the long wait, they're actually causing themselves issues.

Anyways, time to find an Xbox lol

Re: Xbox Is Shutting Four Studios, Including Arkane Austin And Tango Gameworks

Giantkiller

Whilst I get the sorrow for the developers who are potentially out of a job, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone and is 100% needed. Microsoft were never going to make huge acquisitions like the ones they've made without trimming the fat at the end of it. They'll have a clear vision of what games are in the pipeline and how to resource it. Almost all companies who are sold involve this sort of thing, it's not exclusive to gaming. Everyone just needs to chill out and look ahead to what's planned with these studios now, there's still an insane amount of studios under the Xbox banner now and I'm sure the games are going to start coming thick and fast.

Re: Xbox's New Game Pass Tiers Are Causing Confusion Around Online Multiplayer

Giantkiller

Everyone is assuming this is a mistake or doesn’t make sense, this is actually a very clever business move and very similar to what apple do with their storage options. Essentially what they are offering is a base package in core that will fit some people, the ultimate version covers the audience that already have ultimate, the console tier is essentially a phantom offering that neither side of the fence will choose. This who have gold will either stay where they are or think, if I’m paying $10.99 I might aswell pay the extra $5 and get all those extra games, those who have ultimate already won’t drop down for the sake of $5 and would be more likely to go to the $9.99 offering. Microsoft are very cleverly going to get a fair few gamers end up on Gamepass ultimate who ordinarily wouldn’t have considered it. Smart.

Re: EA Sports FC 24 Launches This September On Xbox One, Series X|S

Giantkiller

I mean that was a poor reveal even by EA standards. Always a concern when they’re afraid to show actual gameplay. Looks like another year without online career mode aswell. Pro clubs cross play is nice but if the mode is otherwise untouched that will be a pointless change too. BRB just going to pre order …

Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over

Giantkiller

The biggest problem with this is the fact the games are releasing on out of date engines. Realistically big AAA games need to start moving to 3rd party engines like unreal 5 and ensuring that games can been built quicker and updated throughout the process with new updates from unreal. Developers don’t have time to maintain and update game engines whilst also building huge games and the end results we are seeing show just how limited some of these engines are. I’m not saying unreal is even the answer but something has to give whereby the engines aren’t part of a game development process they’re managed by 3rd parties and games are easier, faster and more efficient.

Maybe I’m wrong, but from the outside looking in this seems to be the best direction long term.

Re: UK CMA Issues Official Response To EU's Activision Blizzard Verdict

Giantkiller

I honestly find it quite laughable that the CMA is still sticking by their cloud gaming argument, it literally shows how incompetent and out of touch they are with the gaming landscape. If I was Microsoft I would argue that by not allowing them to peruse this, cloud gaming is being negatively affected due to the fact that they are one of the very few who are actually making it work. Google tried and failed, Sony bought up some company and didn’t bother investing in it as they know it’s not their expertise and they’d likely follow google. That only really leaves 3rd party providers such as NVIDIA who are seemingly more than happy to work with Microsoft to develop the cloud gaming industry so what gives the CMA the right to argue otherwise?

Honestly it’s embarrassing and I really hope once the dust settles Microsoft take legal action against the CMA for essentially ignoring valid evidence and just going with what Sony have said because let’s face it, the only two people opposing this are Sony and the CMA.

Time will tell.

Re: Rumour: Ubisoft+ Set For April Xbox Launch, Featuring A Massive Lineup

Giantkiller

I really can’t see this being very popular, Ubisoft games are very hit and miss, they’re also heavily discounted very early after release. Unless it’s incredibly cheap at like £20/25 for the year I really can’t see the benefit of it. Including it with Gamepass would have been great, or even maybe a £1/2 per month uplift or something but if it hits at like £10 a month or something it will be a massive flop.

Re: Microsoft And Sony Fail To Make Activision Blizzard Agreement At EU Court Hearing

Giantkiller

I hope Microsoft now give COD to everyone except Sony just to spite them. As a PS5 owner aswell I don’t really have any preference with either console but Sony have really annoyed me with all this childish behaviour. Hope they end up with nothing. Either way this deal is done now, regulators would be in deep water if they are trying to block it just because of Sony, not that they had much in the first place. Sony knows that if COD comes to Gamepass day one they’re going to lose a lot of players who aren’t willing to pay £70 for a game which can be included in their sub.

Re: Xbox Leak Reveals Ubisoft+ Will Include 60+ Games, Here's The Full List So Far

Giantkiller

Honestly unless it in Gamepass or it’s like £30 a year and you get day one access to new games this will be a hard pass for most. All of the games on the list that people would be interested in have had their day and can be had cheap almost weekly at this point. Ubisoft cancelling and delaying a load of games also makes it far less value. Can’t see it taking off personally

Re: Microsoft Orders Sony To Attend Activision Blizzard Court Hearing This Summer

Giantkiller

I have absolutely no idea of how the legal system works, but would it in theory be possible for MS to pull out of the deal then just buy each IP individually and just get rid of the activision name for good? Then it becomes less of a takeover and more of a company selling off their assets which in theory wouldn’t attract the same scrutiny from the likes of the FTC etc? Maybe not but that would be funny

Re: Here Are The Release Times For Halo Infinite's Winter Update

Giantkiller

I was all in on Halo at launch but then quickly realised it wasn’t ready. This update looks awesome and I’d love to play it but releasing what should have been the original product when MW2 has just come out along with WZ2 due next week, God of war also due out, I think they’ve massively missed the boat. Could have been a great game, at this point I’d have preferred they waited until early next year. Shame

Re: Xbox's ActiBlizz Deal Set To Face Further Investigations, Sony Issues Critical Statement

Giantkiller

Awfully strange comment coming from a company that literally sells consoles by restricting games, DLC, pre order content from other consoles. I hope Microsoft win and make it exclusive. I mean I don’t but the way don’t are going they’re going to annoy even Sony players. Ultimately the deal will get done because Microsoft has far more influence over all countries involved than Sony.

Re: The Exciting Prospect Of ActiBlizz On Xbox Game Pass Is Starting To Feel Real

Giantkiller

@Would_you_kindly just because they have existing marketing deals there’s absolutely nothing stopping them from putting it on gamepass should the seal be concluded in time. The only thing they couldn’t do is make it exclusive, they’d also have to give Sony whatever was previously agreed in terms of advance marketing and in game perks but there’s nothing that would stop it being on gamepass. That would be amazing

Re: Skate 4 Will Be Live Service And A Free-To-Play Game, Confirms EA

Giantkiller

@InterceptorAlpha hahaha EA employee have you heard yourself.

Who are you like? Why are you so important that huge game developers should base their games on what you want?

Fortnite is one of the biggest games ever made, people do want this stuff just because you don’t.

Personally I won’t buy any of the consumables so will be great for me as I’ll get it for free.

Honestly people need to move on or get a new hobby it’s embarrassing.

Ea employee hahaha unbelievable

Re: Skate 4 Will Be Live Service And A Free-To-Play Game, Confirms EA

Giantkiller

@JayJ this is exactly what I’m talking about, stop talking about games in the 90s it’s gone, do I like it no, but what’s the point in complaining now.

Game development costs are absolutely astronomical so it’s absolutely no surprise companies choose to do this sort of stuff, keep complaining and they’ll just stop making games, then what? They’re not your friends, they’re a business.

Re: Forza Horizon 5 Passes 20 Million Players Globally Since Launch

Giantkiller

@themightyant Yeh that’s a cool
Idea. The best part about horizon though is you don’t need to do things in order, you can unlock things and still continue on the path you’re on. I’d say just pick a race series type and just focus on that then once finished move to the next one, maybe do some XP boards or speed challenges in between to break it up. It’s a great game for chilling out on, i usually pick it up when I get stressed with COD/FIFA/Fortnite lol

Re: Forza Horizon 5 Passes 20 Million Players Globally Since Launch

Giantkiller

@themightyant Yeh it can be overwhelming if you haven’t picked it up for a while, too too though press RB to bring up the filter system and remove all then just add in the event you want to concentrate on. Lifesaver when you’re trying to get through a specific event and much cleaner. Hope that helps

Re: Damning Report Takes Aim At Xbox's State Of Decay 3 Studio

Giantkiller

I mean this kind of says to me Microsoft didn’t want to disrupt studios and had trust in them to do their jobs with a huge boost to budgets.

Whilst I accept Microsoft now maybe need to be more hands on, all the article tells me is the people at the studios have become lazy and not done their jobs properly, I’d hardly say that’s the fault of Microsoft.

Let’s just hope we don’t get another article in a years time saying Microsoft are too controlling because that would just confirm that we are now living in a world where workers want to have total freedom but then complain that nothings getting done from the top level.

Let’s see!

Re: Battlefield 2042 Refund Petition Gathers Pace, Reaches Over 50k Signatures

Giantkiller

Give it 5 years and we will have the ‘bring back battlefield petition’ after EA decide it’s not worth the hassle anymore. Honestly I hate that games don’t come out fully ready and without bugs/complete modes but what I hate even more is this culture that if the game isn’t perfect then there’s a massive storm on Reddit, gaming sites, YouTube, twitch and then a petition asking for refunds. If it continues developers will just stop making games, companies like EA can just wipe off the debt created if they had to refund, but other studious would potentially collapse. There has to be an acceptance that with the option to update games post launch there’s always going to be something that needs fixing, this point is magnified massively with the pandemic and developers trying to work remotely.

I’m 100% on board that developers need to do better and only release games when they’re ready, but honestly this is a dangerous road to go down and ultimately gamers will suffer when studios just don’t bother making games anymore. My advice as always is to hold off pre ordering, in the digital age there’s really no need.

I expect some backlash from this, I’m more than happy to accept other people feel differently, this is just my take on it.

Hope it gets fixed long term as there’s a lot of potential here.

Re: Xbox Fan Feedback Survey Highlights Game DVR As Biggest Series X|S Issue

Giantkiller

I still think both consoles are missing a serious trick not having proper DVR and streaming options. In 2022 console gamers should be able to stream gameplay within a few button presses with fully integrated customisation options to take away the requirement of PC and capture cards. I know it’s technically possible atm but the process is so bad and also includes paying extra for 3rd party services like lightstream for customisation.
