@IOI I agree. I bought a series S as my first Xbox a couple of years ago when I couldn’t get a PS5. GP was great the first year—playing all the Halo games for the first time was a lot of fun and trying out a bunch of stuff that I wouldn’t normally buy. But I’m disappointed in the lack of new software for it and spent most of my time over the holidays playing the Switch. With FFVII part 2, FF16, Horizon, etc all on the PS5, I’m starting to regret getting the Xbox and MS isn’t offering much to keep me excited about what’s coming.
I have no problem with games going to last gen systems for a while, still. Lots of people can't afford Series X or PS5 (and with a looming recession a lot of people don't want to spend money on a console)--so I have no issue with them launching on new consoles, then spending time to optimize on older consoles with a later release date.
Selling software makes money. Selling consoles loses money. Why would MS buy something then immediately kill off half the revenue stream? That's not how successful businesses are run.
Series S is my first Xbox console and Game pass Ultimate has been an amazing value for me. BUT--I've thought to myself many times that if I had owned a 360 and Xbox One that the value wouldn't be nearly as great. I've enjoyed playing games I've never played before, but even I'm starting to wonder when more new games will hit the service.
I was really excited about this game when it announced, but I'm not as excited about the co-op focus. I'll have to wait for reviews on the single-player experience.
I tried for months to get a PS5 and eventually bought a Series S as my first ever Xbox. Game pass has been great--I've played a lot of games I never had access to on PlayStation (all the Halo's, Forza Horizon, Fable, etc.). I really enjoy the system, and it looks great on my 4k TV. I may not get a PS5 at this point. The only (minor) downside to the Series S is storage--but I usually only play 2 or 3 games at a time, so it hasn't been a big problem.
It somehow seems fitting they stole a Gamecube logo and tweaked it slightly from a G to a P. Anything that includes NFT is nothing but a scam and I'll give up gaming before giving any of these environment-destroying schemes my money.
Shouldn't this be obvious? I've enjoyed my Xbox Series S as my first Xbox console, playing a ton of Xbox One exclusives for the first time. I'm disappointed in the lack of next gen exclusives. Forza Horizon 5 was fun--but I'd just finished 4 and nothing felt "next gen" or particularly new. Halo Infinite was also fun--but again, after playing the campaign mode of all the other Halo games, it felt like more of the same (which isn't a bad thing--the Halo games are a ton of fun). I'd really like to see them come out with something that justifies the next gen consoles beyond more of the same "now with more pixels."
Nothing for me. I got Batman Arkham collection last time it was on sale and still have 2 of those to play. I'd like to play Hot Wheels Unleashed, but my gut tells me it will be under $20 soon enough.
Like someone else mentioned, with Game Pass, I no longer buy cheap games just because they're on sale.
I now prefer digital games over a stack of physical media, I don’t have a 4K TV, and have never owned an Xbox before so the S was the perfect choice for me. I suspect at least part of the reason it’s selling well is there are others like me who are happy to get a latest version console at an affordable price. When I get a PS5 it will be the disc based version so I can still play my stack of PS4 games.
Two things I’ve heard. All you really own is a link to where the NFT sits on a server. If the hosting company ever ceased operation, all you own is a broken link. I really don’t see the point.
Second—anything blockchain related is so energy intensive it’s destroying the planet. It’s immoral. Video games use enough electricity—there’s no need to multiply it many times over just so publishers can make a few extra bucks.
There's a difference between making an accounting profit and generating positive cash flow. Hollywood is a good example--most films don't generate an accounting profit, but have positive cash flow. I wouldn't be surprised if Game Pass is similar in that, from an accounting point of view, it could be break even or possibly a loss. But from a cash flow standpoint it sounds like Phil is saying it's doing just fine.
I wanted one, but recognize this is still just a fridge and I can always get a different mini fridge for much cheaper. No way would I pay a scalper for a novelty. It’s not like I need a proprietary fridge to keep certain drinks cold.
It’s sad that we still only have one very expensive option almost a year later. Seems silly we have to resort to something like this when a little competition could make officially supported solutions more palatable for many.
I’m one of those who gave up on PS5 and got a series S and Game-pass. It’s been a great little system—to the point I’m not even looking for a PS5 anymore. Maybe when some true next gen games come or for it. So far everything I’ve wanted is still coming out on PS4.
As a PlayStation convert who failed to get a PS5, I love the Series S. My kids joke that I’ve become an advertisement for Game Pass because of how much I praise it. My only complaint is storage—especially after I downloaded flight simulator. I’m constantly having to delete and redownload games. I thought cheaper add-on drives would be available by now.
How long until more manufacturers can start producing competitive memory expansion? It’s a great solution for adding space, but $220 for 1tb is taking advantage of early adopters.
Last night I flew Paris to London in 747. As I started to approach London, I couldn’t adjust the throttle or deploy the landing gear. So it was full speed ahead as I bounced off the ground a few times before finally flipping the plane upside down several miles past Heathrow!
I got Game Pass Ultimate with a Series S, and one of the first games I downloaded was PES to give it a try. I admit I'm just a casual player of FIFA and had heard a lot of good things about better gameplay with PES. Honestly--I didn't care for any of it--graphics, presentations, or gameplay. FIFA is far from a perfect game, but it's easy for me to see why it has more mass appeal than PES.
I got the achievement in Prey after activating the punch card and it didn’t count it as complete, even though the achievement popped up. I did it on my laptop—does it have to be done on the console?
I bought my first Xbox because I got tired of trying to get a PS5. As a newbie to Xbox, I love the Series S. Game Pass Ultimate has been amazing letting me play games I wouldn’t have ever bought at retail. The console is fast, quick resume is the best thing ever (I’m already annoyed when I play games that don’t support it—it’s like “why am I staring at these start up screens?). My one hope is Xbox gets some good story based games similar to PS5 (FFVII remake, and games like Spider-Man or Uncharted). I haven’t touched my Switch or PS4 in the two months since I bought the Series S.
After owning every PlayStation and most Nintendo systems, I got my first Xbox courtesy of the Series S. Game Pass is awesome—I’m enjoying my first play through of Halo, get to keep playing MLB the Show, and I’ve already tried several games I never would have bought at retail. Some have been great, while others I played once and deleted. The series S with game pass is a great entry to Xbox for those of us new to the system.

Storage solutions shouldn't cost as much as the console did. That is all.
