I bought this last year despite not being a fan of persona games.
Its an ok title, but still a little be too strange for me. Hard to put a finger on it, but it just doesnt click for me. Ive put about 25 hours in, just kinda got bored.
Sonys approach has me ready to cancel ps premium though where i have no qualms paying for gamepass ultimate.
Value prop is important and as I dont play games online, there really isnt much for me to continue paying for ps plus in any variant. Only reason ive kept it is because they keep discounting it massively when i dont resub and let it lapse. Even that may not be enough this year.
Likely, but depends on cost and function. I sold my steamdeck off because it sucked at gamepass and xbox remote play as well as having no need for steam itself.
I have a portal and switch oled(and switch 2 on the way) which i love.
So if its under $800 ill probably pull the trigger, if its over though itll need to make up the value gap for me to consider it.
Lets be honest here, within a generation or two, physical will be gone and only digital will remain.
With streaming improving rapidly and high speed internet connections the norm now, it seems like the only real way to preserve generational changes is going to be via streaming. Especially if architecture changes significantly.
So while we may not like it, I think its more than reasonable to assume in 15 years that streaming will be the primary if not only mode of playing older games on newer consoles.
I never got the desire for special controllers with no extra functionality, but I do feel for those who love them and are impacted by scalpers. This seems like something people could just ignore and move on with though.
(I also understand if your already in the market for a controller and want something special)
@Krzzystuff This(the time overall, not toulet time) is why ive been shifting to handhelds. I just dont have time for the consoles themselves anymore. Im beat after work and kids stuff, just want to sit in bed, turn on the tv for sports noise and play a game. Switch and portal are great for this.
Unless its over $800, im likely going to pick it up. (Got 2 switch 2s inbound for me and my daughter)
Need a replacement for the dead weight....err...steamdeck i recently sold. This just has 2 other requirements for me. Needs to be more ergonomic than the deck and needs seemless gamepass streaming. Local and pc features are irrelevant to me.(though arent a negative either)
Ive been a staunch xbox supporter since day 1, never hesitated to sub for gp ultimate, and with points only pay for 4 months a year.
Income is not an issue either as $20, $30, even $50 or more is fine.
That said, I am using my xbox ecosystem less and less now and generally speaking, am playing games less due to how much time I have available. If they raise it again I may actually finally deem it not worth my money given how much I play. (And make no mistake, if time wasnt a factor itd be worth way more given the value provided)
The same applies to ps+ as well. (NSO has to stay for the kids and its dirt cheap anyway)
All 3 of my LG OLED TVs are compatible with this. I took a spin yesterday on each to test it out and it was not bad. I have great internet, buy I was worried that LG may have skimped on the wifi adapter. In my tests atleast all 3 played quite well, with the caveat that the games look noticably worse than downloaded versions on these tvs. (Likely resolution as I think xcloud maxes at 1080p, maybe even 720. It looked a lot granier and you lose the effects of the contrast)
Does removing the ability to stream via app apply to remote play as well?
Seems like it would be a very clunky solution for those on portables just wanting it to play. One of the reasons the steam deck is so bad at remote play is that you need to config it all to boot from the site. Its tedious and even after setup, is a clunky solution. (I used xbplay before finally dumping my steam deck due to never using it)
I just want it to work. No fiddling. This seems like the opposite direction.
@CallMeDuraSouka Id take the switch 2 over the steam deck anyday. I got a 512gb steam deck at launch, it just sits there and even before it sat there it was essentially relegated to being a remote play device for xbox.
Its too bulky and hot. I dont want to have to tinker to optimize things, just want them to work.
As such, I play my portal and switch 1 infinitely more. The switch 2 looks nice and simple, light, and likely not hot.
$500 is fine for a device like this. That said, if the tariffs make it $650 then id have an issue. The games are definately overpriced though.
Already put my 512gb steamdeck up for sale in anticipation of this. My steamdeck is basically an xbox streaming device, but not a very good one.
Make it native and remove all the customization and im sold. Just hope its less that $699. Not sure how id feel paying over that for what will be a streaming box like my portal.
I like it. I believe the goal is to make points more natural than just hitting random search 20 times. I dont put any effort into points and get enough, its nice. Just use bing for your regular search and edge as the browser and your good.
@Dalamar73 If youve poured that much money into it, you can afford a $250 series s.
Im more in the "If you cant afford to upgrade, you need to focus on things other than gaming" line of thought. Other gamers shouldnt be subjected to your monetary troubles.
A bigger shock to me was waking up today and seeing the ad free solitaire on pc was no longer ad free with xbox ultimate. Stealth kill or error, im not sure, but im not paying $20 a year more for solitaire
Im half interested. Depending on weight and interface, I may give it a look.
I can play my xbox games via remote play or play anywhere(if applicable) so thats good. I never play away from home so not concerned with bandwidth. (I play portables in bed while watching tv after the kids sleep)
Ive been an xbox person since the og release day 1. (Though a gamer much longer)
Saying that, I dont like pc gaming all that much despite having a decent rig. For me to buy an xbox that is more pc like they need to remember the golden console rule. Keep it insanely simple. If i need to think everytime i turn it in i dont want it. If i have to press more than a couple buttons to get inti a game i dont want it. If i need to adjust settings everytime i play a new game i dont want it.
Depends on how its done. Currently no pc handheld has the level of integration that the ps portal has. If they give it a custom interface that taps right into remote play or gp without having to fiddle around and install or customize things, it could be a winner.
Remember that many of us out there dont want to do anything other than turn on the platform and play. I can do it, but I dont want to. My steam deck is a paperweight because i have to click into things. My portal is press n go.
Agree with all except the first. Personally I want it to be a streaming device and not a hardware on device platform, though I know phil has said he must have that as a feature.
As such though, im hoping they release a switch level powered device with a focus on streaming which allows a long battery life, a very lightweight design, and affordability.
Not all that concerned here. Currently I do essentially nothing and get 3 months free for every 1 month I pay. Now that will be a 3:2 ratio assuming its 50k points now.
I was fine paying every month before because I use the service and see value in it. That hasnt changed.
I think im long past my wow days. I still buy the expansions, but only reactivate for the 30 days and rarely touch it during that time. I spent way too much tine on the first few years.
@Rog-X Id also argue exclusives are an old way of thinking when buying a console. I much prefer the OS, quality of online service platform, controllers, and other console specific features when looking at consoles. Its why the Series X is still preferred to me over my PS5 Pro. The OS features are just better on the xbox.
So much reference to the steam deck in the comments here. As a gamer, A multiplatform owner(Nintendo, Sony, MSFT, PC, Steamdeck, etc..) the steamdeck has probably gotten the least amount of use. Its akward and bulky. Battery life is poor and the screen subpar compared to alternatives. My PS portal gets far more use, as does my switch oled.
I was an early adopter to the steamdeck and love what its done for the segment, but if thats the gold standard for people in handhelds, we have a lot of improvement to go before its really ready for mainstream.
Far too many for what I actually have time to play. Over 10 titles, but I also have Game Pass Ultimate, so factor in those games too and Its too much. I also picked up 26 full length PS5 games, and a dozen switch games. (and PC games for my deck as well) All Digital.
New Year Resolution for 2025 is to buy only games I have time for, so under 10 across all platforms.....
@shoeses I think licensing had far more to do with what they could do as opposed to the tech. Remember this program required them to essentially patch a game, meaning they did need the consent to do each title.

Re: Review: Xbox Retro Classics - A Great Addition To Game Pass, With Just One Caveat
@Elbow I think free with gamepass is accurate. To me that implies if i pay for gamepass i get this added on at no charge. Included with works as well.
Re: Review: Xbox Retro Classics - A Great Addition To Game Pass, With Just One Caveat
Played yesterday, had a blast. Only downloaded the general app so no clutter. Love the streaming and super happy they didnt do download.
Hopefully they keep adding.(i dont need 1k games though)
That said, some of these games are horrible with a controller.
Re: Xbox Announces 'Retro Classics' For Game Pass, 50+ Activision Titles Included
As I do everything always online and prefer instant access without the clutter on my console, I love that these are streamed.
Great announcement and great product.
Re: Xbox Handheld Gets Leaked, First Photos And Details Revealed
@PlatinumMikey I much prefer offset. More natural for using the analog as a dominant over the dpad.
Never liked the ps layout, crunches my hands
Re: Xbox Is Seemingly Making Preparations For Its 2025 Handheld Device
@Tasuki Agreed, im guessing 699 or even 750 here in the US. Cheaper in the rest of the non tariffed world

I like the direction this is going. I love my portal and switch, but just dumped my steam deck because I just didnt use it. (Too bulky)
Been eying the upcoming potential asus xbox hand held but would prefer it be stream only to shave off heft.
Will probably still wait out that announcement, but going to leave this as a strong option as well.

WoW, but only with controller support. My consoles will always be keyboard free.

Series Y and Series Z. Keep it simple, but non numbered.(letters > numbers)

I picked it up on ps5 last year, its a good game for the portal.
That said, i suck at it and have never been able to clear a deck to date. Got up to like round 6 or 7 with the red deck.
As someone who hates a challenge, its more of a "ok game" to me

While having star trek is nice, halo was new and the action solid.
Netflix shows not named stranger things kinda stink though, so im not sure its a place id want the series to be.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 8-9)

Ive loved the show, but the game has had very little innovation since the late 10's.

Unless they make some major updates(visual and gameplay), im probably going to skip a few iterations.

Re: Xbox Exec Appearing At 'Future Of Gaming Handhelds' Panel Next Month
Couple quick thoughts here.
1. Really hoping for an xbox handheld.
2. Steam OS is overrated. Its not terrible, but i much prefer the os on both xbox and ps. Even the switches os is better.
Caveat to 1 is that I want a streaming only device, or atleast a lightweight handheld. Ive got a steamdeck, portal, and a couple switches and i never touch my steamdeck. Its setup as an xbox streaming device, but the hardware and software are just too bulky. If they can make it lighter and thinner, im all game. I think the streaming games you own is really a precurser to this. If our entire libraries can be streamed via xcloud, then there really isnt a need for a bulky device.

Re: Microsoft Rewards Announces New Xbox Game Pass Quests, But Only For Australia
The daily play is already the same here in the us. It used to be ambiguous as to how long, but a few weeks back it updated to "15min"
Streaks are here at the core level as well, just without multipliers.
The 4 and 8 packs i have not noticed, but am ok as i tend to try out new games weekly on a natural basis.
