Re: This Diablo 4 Custom Console Is So Epic It Doesn't Even Look Like An Xbox

Raw_Dawg

@Markatron84 @Kaloudz I have a Series X. I constantly forget to turn it off. It has probably been on for a week. I've had a game running for probably about 4 hours and it's barely warm. There is no way the plastic melts. Especially considering the shell is plastic and you can put skins on them. Which makes me wonder why didn't they just make a skin? The only problem I see is that it would block the disc drive.

Re: Two New '1.0' Releases Confirmed For Xbox Game Pass In November

Played a couple of hours of Coral Island it feels way too much like Stardew Valley so far. The community center, general store, and beach look like they are nearly in the exact location of Stardew. They even named the town Starlet. I think what will likely set it apart is much later in the game. From the trailers there is diving and conveyor belts. The art style is cute. It looks like the characters are Asian or pacific islander. The water attractions are nice. I thought the dog parks with different dog types was a nice touch. Might come back to it at some point. Just doesn't separate it self from Stardew and there are so many other games to play.

@ZuneTattooGuy I have questioned whether you truly enjoy games from the start of our conversation. Most gamers have at least a handful of games they love and would be absolutely destroyed if they lost access to. I still have my PS3 mostly just for the Rock Band games. I think I have more than 500 hours in Stardew Valley. There is an older woman who has 3500 hour in Animal Crossing on the NDS. That's what someone that enjoys video games looks like. I think there is a reason you play but I don't think that is it. You are an odd one. Not sure how disc has anything to do with ego. I also don't typically resell them unless they are awful. I traded in Animal Crossing and Ark for the NSW. It's more fun to give them to someone. Gave my copy of Lego Worlds to my nephew. Thinking about giving my copy of SR3 to my friend's kid who keeps talking about GTA5 and RDR2. You still don't seem to get it. The console war will be over. Microsoft or Sony are unlikely to fare any better then Google Stadia. Their whole business model revolves around a device they created. What you will end up with is a $100-$150 Android box, Steam box, or NUC. The game store will fall somewhere between the Nintendo store and Google Play. Once developers start having problems selling games because most people are going to pay more than $40 for something they have no control over. AAA games will practically disappear. The ones that do survive will be littered with microtransactions and ads. The gaming industry has already talked about putting ads in console games over the last year. PC gaming might survive it. Although it has a higher level of entry that most people aren't going to afford. It's what I just came from. The only thing that would save gaming at that point would be someone releasing a console that relied on physical media. lol It's like Apple dropping the headphone jack just to end up making an adapter. A bunch of geniuses there /s lol

This has nothing to do with being stuck in the past. Change doesn't always mean progress. This is idiotic from a tech standpoint but what would I know I only went to college for networking technology. This also make no sense financially. Again what do I know I only retired before I was 40. Typically I would say you are free to do what you want. Although typically when I say that the other persons choices don't affect me. This starts with losing physical media and ends with everyone cloud gaming. Nintendo is already selling games full price that you can only play in the cloud. I guess you enjoy working and spending money with nothing to show for it.

Re: Best Buy Will Reportedly Stop Selling Physical Media Next Year

Raw_Dawg

I guess a girlfriend her daughter, nephew and niece (she was working on adopting) isn't really a family. We were sitting around playing Monopoly. Again I was mostly talking about the cloud. As I said before your device breaks after they shut down the servers you might never play any of them again. I doubt that's true being Sony made the Blu-ray prototype. They are the whole reason we aren't using HD DVD. lol You did make me look. I have a physical copy of GTA V. Steam says 110 GB. There is definitely more than half a game on there. lol

Re: Best Buy Will Reportedly Stop Selling Physical Media Next Year

@ZuneTattooGuy Really, because I have played board games during a hurricane and after it. Would have played video games if I had a generator. Plan on getting one soon. My girlfriends place lost power for 24 hours which also means no internet. It's not always so much while it's occurring. I know you couldn't have missed the fires in Hawaii. Solar panels or generator would have you right back gaming as long as you had everything locally. Having disc would mean being able to swap them with other survivors. Blu-ray can go up to 128 GB. Also another thing I avoid. I hate bloated games.

Re: Best Buy Will Reportedly Stop Selling Physical Media Next Year

Raw_Dawg

@ZuneTattooGuy I try to stay away from games that need a day one update. Although my remarks were about your cloud based media. While you might not be throttled. My remarks on natural disasters, server and internet crashes still hold true. As we have already seen. Servers for the game stores will shut down. While you can try to download everything before they do. If those drives ever become corrupted. You lose everything with no way to get it back. At least with a disc you still have some of the game. Then there is always the fact that anyone of these companies can choose to lock you out of your account and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Re: Best Buy Will Reportedly Stop Selling Physical Media Next Year

@ZuneTattooGuy It's great until it doesn't work. Then you just have an expensive paperweight. It's possible you don't live in the same world as the rest of us. I mean COVID wasn't that long ago an isp's had to downgrade video because of network traffic. Sites and servers go down all the time. We have had large parts of the internet go down. Natural disasters can destroy infrastructure meaning no internet. I guess you don't have friends or family that you visit. I could never game on my grandmother's internet. It's always fun to watch something go down. There's always people that put too much faith in tech and "progress". Then they can't figure out what to do and you have to explain to them how it was originally done because they are completely clueless. lol

Re: Disney Reportedly Encouraging Its CEO To Look At Acquiring A Company Like EA

Raw_Dawg

@StonyKL because they are playing the race game. They did a black Little Mermaid just for the sake of it. They changed the words to one of the songs because some felt it had a sexual assault tone or was "rapey" Now they are taking it further with a brown Snow White. How does that even work. Snow White's skin was as white as snow hence the name.

Disney owns ABC which has The View. A lot of there shows have become racist and sexist and it's almost celebrated. I use to watch the Good Doctor and Station 19 but then stopped. The Good Doctor had a female character that had barely made it out of her residency tell a male doctor of over 40 years he was mansplaining. They even had him apologize for it. They have had black characters make racist remarks to characters that look white. My mother and aunt look whiter than me and they are 50/50 with Native American. My aunt grew up on a reservation in poverty because my grandfather doesn't have higher than a third grade education. That's because both white and black people didn't want him in their schools. Seventy years later his daughter has to deal with this white privilege nonsense. It's just disgusting.

Re: Forza Motorsport Is Xbox One Compatible, Thanks To Game Pass Ultimate

Raw_Dawg

You could tell they were going to stop supporting the XB1. I just didn't think it would happen so quickly. It felt like it happened over night. I ended up buying a series X right before Starfield launched. Coming over from a PC I didn't really mind the price. I didn't realize so many gamers did it on a budget. Which makes you wonder who the hell are they trying to convince to buy these $100 games.

Re: The Xbox Series S 'xScreen' Is Now Officially Licensed By Microsoft

Raw_Dawg

I had the screen for the slim PS2 back in the day. If I was still in the military I might have bought this. I just picked up a little 7 inch for less than half the price. That I can let my friend use for our LAN party. If you have the extra space or don't mind carrying around the extra bulk. You can get a 10 -15 inch for around $100

If you say this is expensive it shows that you are broke. I paid $150 back in 2004 for something similar. If you don't see it's purpose. It's clear you don't have any real friends.

Re: It Sounds Like Capcom Is Considering Raising Its Game Prices

Raw_Dawg

That's generally how tech works. It starts off expensive but the prices end up dropping. My first flat panel TV was a Samsung 32" that I think cost me around $750. It was also only 720p. I just bought a 65" that cost me less than $750 and it's 4K.

The larger studios have been greedy and lazy. Games use to be shipped finished. Without all the bugs. You use to get a physical copy with a booklet. You use to also get the entire game not half of it and then have to buy the other half as an expansion or DLC. I read an article on a gaming site about Starfield. The author said they had done NG+ twice and was nearly level 100 and they felt they were done at nearly 160 hours. I've put more time then that into Stardew Valley (along with Astroneer, Techtonica, Forager, Minecraft, Autonauts, Terraria). Which is $15 and created by a single person. Which has also had constant free updates. The large companies don't seem to be doing anything new. The gameplay isn't interesting. It doesn't hook me in. If you bought the game new with all the expansion passes and DLC. You would probably spend $300-$500. How are you going to talk about raising the price. The only game I ever remember costing that much back in the day was The Sims. Which you could sink thousands of hours into but your game is over in typically well under 200 hours.

Bring back what made gaming great. Show me you care about my gaming experience and I will show you the money.

Re: No Man's Sky's 'Biggest Month In Years' Coincides With The Launch Of Starfield

Raw_Dawg

@InheritNegative You know the developer of Cyberpunk said about as much for a different reason. Which is a sign that this is becoming way too normal. If you don't mind paying a premium for a game that is in early access I won't stop you. Just don't try to piss on me and tell me it's raining. We should look at NMS as a whole. The entire thing is a cautionary tale. You buy a game put it to the side for a while. When you come back it's not the same game you bought. I also don't like what NMS has become either. I think I still have an original GOG copy of the game. I would have happily paid $20 for the game as it was. They overpriced it. Which is also the case with Starfield. I've tried supporting early access in the past. Partially because it meant a steep discount. That just isn't the case anymore. At this point I typically won't support an unfinished game.

This game is boring and half of it is missing. I thought fast travel was going to be nice.I wasn't sure why people were complaining. That's was until I spent 75% of my time in the menus. A fifth of the skill tree is combat related. You can farm minerals. There is a weapons workbench. Why can't you craft ammo? Are you expected to constantly buy it? I guess that's not really a problem because you can farm xp and currency. Which ruined the game for me. I typically stay away from the internet when it comes to games to avoid things like this. This game offers almost no information so, I've had no choice. I had to google if there was a way to grow things in the hydroponics hab (along with other things). Only to find out that you need a greenhouse and it's mostly useless. Why have a skill tree with outpost, farming, and cooking? Why wave a cooking station when you can't grow vegetables? I get they don't want mounts so you can enjoy the environment. Half the planets are barren of any flora or fauna. How many times do I need to see the same rock? Are you honestly going to tell me someone owns a huge starship and doesn't have a small vehicle bay. Why not have an atv, utv dirt bike, hover bike, go cart, or dune buggy. At the very least you could bring one of the animals from animal husbandry. Sure, most things aren't further than 500m but that adds up when you hit multiple locations. I don't want to walk a mile while being encumbered. They had 8 years to get this right and learn from NMS. The only thing they learned was that people will pay a premium for a unfinished game. I can't believe they asked double of NMS full price just to play a few days early.

Re: Xbox Fan Wins 'Game Pass For Life', But Shockingly Declines The Prize

Raw_Dawg

@Jenim unless it's an actual credit to the account that could be spent in the Microsoft store or a Visa type gift card it wouldn't change anything. You still haven't actually received anything. As they said in the article it is being "metered out". If Microsoft did it like My Coke Rewards. Where they claim they are giving away a vacation worth up to $5000. Which neither is true. If you read the fine print. It's a gift card worth $5000 if you don't pay taxes on it. You are correct in the fact that Microsoft could set it and forget it. The thing is the lotto is capable of the same. They could put your winning in escrow or a trust. They would no longer have access to the winnings or have to think about it but either would you. The IRS can not make you claim something you haven't received.

Microsoft wasn't the concern. I think we all know that subscription services increase with time. We have seen it with Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube TV...etc. By the time this prize has actually been claimed GP will likely be $55 a month. If you were worried before about the IRS you should be just as worried at the end. The prize ended up being worth more than originally quoted. Which means you cheated the IRS.

Honestly I would expect the IRS to really care to much either way. What it would cost the IRS to collect on what this person claims they would owe would be close to half.

Re: Xbox Fan Wins 'Game Pass For Life', But Shockingly Declines The Prize

Raw_Dawg

@Telin let me explain it to you like this. If you won the lotto and took payments instead of the lump sum and the payments lasted 40 years. You would pay taxes every year on it for 40 years. You wouldn't pay 40 years of taxes up front.

On top of that it's impossible to put an actual monetary value on this until it's used. If GP cease to exist there is no value. If the winner dies there is no value. If the winner no longer has an Xbox or it is broken there is no value. Now in a perfect world where none of these things happen it would be worth more then is stated.

Re: Crime Boss: Rockay City Gets Violent In 'Lost Candy' Mission Footage

@grumpypotato seems the name is rather fitting. That's a bit of an exaggeration. I'm considered Gen Y and know all of these people. You must be Gen Z or a very young Gen Y. I saw Kim Basinger in Batman when it was released and in L.A. Confidential (1997) also 8 Mile (2002). The most memorable film that Michael Madsen for me was Species(1995) . He was also in Kill Bill (2003) and The Hateful Eight (2015). On top of that he has been in at least two music videos. One for Iggy Azalea and another for Justin Bieber. Danny Glover was in the Lethal Weapons (1987) (1989) (1992) (1998) Bad @ss (2014) (2015). While Danny Trejo has been around since the 80's he didn't get popular until after 2000. Planet Terror (2007). Machete (2010) (2013)Bad @ss (2012) (2014) (2015) Sons of Anarchy. Michael Rooker's most popular role was in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) (2017). He was also in Jumper (2008) The Walking Dead, F9: The Fast Saga (2021) and The Suicide Squad (2021). I think pretty much everyone knows who Vanilla Ice is because of the popularity of his one hit. He has also done a bunch of cameos and has a show on DIY. Chuck Norris was in Walker, Texas Ranger (1993-2001) Even my son who was born in 2005 has seen it. They also did a reboot of it. I would also say he is the original meme and probably one of the most popular. Damion Poitier is the only one I don't recognize at all. He started after 2000 and seems to be mostly an extra. While I know none of these people are likely to be anyone's favorite actor. You would have to be living under a rock or be under the age of fifteen to not know who they are or the movies they have been in.
