On Series X I’m still playing Dragons Dogma 2. Have clocked up almost 40 hours and still haven’t got to Battahl yet! Just this morning I got lost in the Misty marshes and had to use a (costly) ferrystone to teleport myself out of there 😂 I love the sense of adventure in DD2, and it’s probably my game of the year so far. On PS5 I’m playing Dave the diver which is more addictive than I anticipated. I bought Fallout 4 GOTY (on Xbox) ahead of next weeks next-gen upgrade. However, I’m thinking of doing of starting it now to get the opening section (character creation, vault stuff etc) out of the way, so when the update drops I can fully immerse myself in the open world straight away.

This is well worth checking out. I got 6 months free sub with my PS5 and still subbed after it expired. Shows you should check out - Severance, Slow horses, Silo, Bad Sisters, Ted Lasso - to name but a few. There’s lots of good stuff on there now.

I may pull the trigger on Fallout 4 GOTY edition for under a tenner. I’m assuming you start in the bunker? I’ll probably start the game before the upgrade drops just to get the bunker bit out of the way. Is base building a big part of the game, or can you largely ignore it? Not really into that aspect of it.

I’m thinking of getting the GOTY edition of Fallout 4, but the base game is on GP so don’t know if I’ll bother. Does anyone know if next weeks next-gen upgrade will also apply to the GP version?

On my Series X I’m hopping between Dragons Dogma 2 and Forza Motorsport. I’m still enjoying DD2 (have just unlocked mystic spearhand vocation) though some people have told me of some rather annoying game mechanics which may put me off the game. One such mechanic is “dragons plague” - none of my pawns have had it yet, though from what I’ve heard I do wonder if the devs actually want us to enjoy their game!

I’ve just finished Horizon Forbidden West & Burning shores on PS5. However, I’m now looking for a new game but am torn between 3 choices - Dragons Dogma 2, Banishers Ghosts of New Eden, or The Rise of the Ronin. I honestly can’t decide 🤔

@FraserG thanks 👍 I may take advantage of the offer then cancel just before the 3 months is up. I still think £12 per month is too expensive. They should do a “lite” version without the music.

The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews on the Xbox store page, so I’ll probably buy this with the tenner knocked off.

Is this only if accessing YouTube through your Xbox, or will it still apply through other devices?

@PJOReilly @GamingFan4Lyf Thanks! I’m still on the fence on buying this. Will wait to see the Rise of the Ronin reviews tomorrow first. If I do get DD2 I’ll probably get it on XSX, especially with quick resume.

Do you know how the frame rate issues are compared to PS5? I came away from your review feeling it was less of an issue compared to your sister site’s review over at PushSquare.

The game has been out over 5 years and it’s still getting “stability and performance” updates 😂 the ONLY update I’m interested in is a 60fps patch.

Top spin 4 was amazing, and nothing has bettered it in the 13 years since its release. I have high hopes for this 🤞

With a bit of TLC (patches) and a price drop I’ll probably pick this up. Wish listed it for the time being.

Can you imagine how many discs GTA 6 is going to ship on?!? 😂

I already have it preordered on Series X and am looking forward to playing it. Going by previous games you know there will be support for a good few years. Just hope they fix the texture issues ASAP.

@themightyant All good points. It just seems unfair/surprising when for example a dev like Insomniac has a huge hit with Spider-Man 2, and then has to lay off staff.

I still don’t get all these layoffs. 2023 was an amazing year for games, and 2024 is off to a great start. What am I missing?

May? Wow, it’s early this year. I guess with the lack of new tracks on this year’s calendar it’s reduced their development time. I don’t think there’s going to be a “braking point” this year either, so it’s going to be hard justifying full price for this release, mind you EA do it every year with their FIFA/EAFC games 🙄

8 hours?!? Wow, that is generous. Either they (Ubisoft) are very confident in their game, or sales have been poor so far. Likely the latter from what I’ve been hearing about the game.

“Not bad” isn’t good enough for something with a £70 price tag. Give it a month or so and the price will start plummeting.

I wish there was a dedicated page/tab for demos, they’re not always easy to find.

I’m only on around 70mbps, so if it’s a large game I try and download overnight where possible.

I think it would be a bad move if it does happen. Healthy competition is always a good thing for the market. Some PS fanboys moan that they won’t (for the moment) get to play games like Elder scrolls 6, but PlayStation already has its own fair share of exclusives, most of which are very good. If it does happen why would anyone buy another Xbox console? Maybe for Gamepass, but I don’t think that’s enough on its own.

Being a racing fan I use it quite regularly for Codemasters’ games, either for the trial or waiting for the full game to go on there. I was on the fence over the recent WRC game, but the trial convinced me to buy it (in a sale mind you). Saying that, I wouldn’t subscribe to EA Play on its own if it ever left Gamepass Ultimate.

After a brief hiatus I’m right back into Forza Motorsport. I think it’s a good move from Turn 10 to renew the “open” class events in career mode on a monthly basis. Apart from dropping in new tracks, it gives me an incentive to keep playing.
I’ll also be playing a couple of games I bought in the Lunar sale during the week. These include Trepang 2, and Warm snow.

So far I’ve bought Trepang 2 and Warm snow. Still a few others I’ve got my eye on.

AC Codename Red, Star Wars Outlaws and a new Far Cry game are all likely day 1 buys for me. Surprise there’s no mention of a new Division game - I thought they were working on something? 🤔

I loved Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla so hopefully this will be similar with a big open world, RPG mechanics etc. If so, I can’t wait!

Definitely giving this a go! What with the lunar sale as well I could suddenly be inundated with new games to play! Modern day problems 😂

@BowsersBuddy I haven’t yet played it but it has lots of glowing reviews on the Xbox store. It’s been on my wish list for a while so I’m also tempted! 🤔

Looking forward to this track, especially with all the different permutations that will be available (day/night, wet/dry etc). Please fix the AI though - fed up with cars braking for no reason, or me getting penalised when they hit me 🙄

Two high scoring games…unfortunately neither interest me. Not into fighting games, and I’ve tried a few Yakuza games on GP but they didn’t really click with me. Happy for everyone else though 🙂

I’ll wait till it comes on Gamepass thanks.

Playing and enjoying Prince of Persia The lost crown. Decided to get it on XSX over PS5 for quick resume feature, which is very handy in a game like this. Still playing EA Sports WRC, and it looks like with this weeks patch Codies have finally fixed the screen tearing. On PS5 I’m playing through Horizon Forbidden West again, which I’m thoroughly enjoying.

F1 23 was the first F1 game in about 10 years that I didn’t buy, so will definitely be playing that. It also coincides nicely with the EA F1 dynamic theme just released, which I installed. Not much else on that list interests me tbh.

Definitely picking up Prince of Persia. Will get it on Series X rather than PS5, as it seems an ideal game for quick resume.

Glad they’re working on AI. Two things that really annoy me are 1) getting shunted from behind by an AI car and then ME getting a penalty. 2) AI cars suddenly slowing down for no apparent reason

I love the AC games of Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla, and have spent far too much time in their huge open worlds! It’s hard going back to the earlier games, even the excellent Black flag, with their simple game mechanics. I got Mirage for Christmas, but am struggling to get into it. Can’t wait for AC Red, hopefully later this year.

I’ve pretty much rinsed AC Valhalla inc both expansions, but it’s well worth your time if you haven’t yet played it. Lovely graphics too.

I finally decided to give Redfall a go, now that it’s had several patches. Quite enjoying it, though it’s still early days. Gunplay seems pretty solid, and the 60fps performance mode is nice and smooth. For my racing fix I’m still playing Forza Motorsport and WRC. On PS5 I’m playing Avatar FoP.

For me it’s either GTA V or Red Dead Redemption. Both are great games that pushed the console to its limits.

I put in around 35 hours before quitting. I may go back to it at some point, but definitely not anytime soon.

After playing the 5 hour trial, I finally pulled the trigger this week on EA Sports WRC as it was reduced to £27. It’s not exactly a graphical showcase, but still a good rally game with plenty of content. Also playing the excellent Risk of rain returns on Switch. On PS5 I’m playing Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, which I’m still undecided on, though it looks gorgeous.

Lots of good reviews for this on the store page, and it’s very reasonably priced at £24.99. Have added it to my wish list as I have plenty of other games to play right now.
