Re: Xbox Achieves Record-Breaking Results In Latest Earnings Report

@TheEstablishment It's hardware sales that will drive GamePass sales. Xbox is a third-party publisher now, and if you think Sony and Nintendo are operating like it's 1996 I don't think you've been paying attention - where were subscription services, online pay walls, pro consoles, microstransations, DLC etc in 1996?

The difference they still control their own dominant ecosystems.

@fatpunkslim With all due respect, I'm not sure what your problem is but you were hyping PC GamePass numbers - a 45% increase of a very low figure means very little in terms of the bigger picture.

Also this:

"Even Xbox consoles are benefiting from this Game Pass boost, as going from -29% to -6% is an improvement:

This is year-on-year decline (after significant drops in previous years) and means Xbox hardware sales are now at a very lot point. InstallBase estimates 800k for Q3 sales so it would appear this "GamePass boost" is non-existent.

I would suggest you do some research on interpreting percentages.

Re: Xbox Achieves Record-Breaking Results In Latest Earnings Report

@TheEstablishment Nonsense, hardware numbers have dropped massively and won't reach even 40m. GamePass is stagnant in part because it's dependent on Xbox hardware sales. The fact that they put Balck Ops 6 on GamePass and still won't reveal numbers is telling.

They are now a multiplatform publisher because the platform has failed to reach the necessary penetration. They are basically dependent on Sony and Nintendo for revenue - who get 30% of everything Microsoft publishes on their platforms.

Re: Xbox Achieves Record-Breaking Results In Latest Earnings Report

@IOI No it definitely doesn't mean that, this may be an earnings report but they apply a positive spin on things in their summary and have been for years. The fact they stopped giving actual numbers says it all. And the last we heard from Sarah Bond was 34m last year - including GamePass Core so a reduction from the previous GP and Live figures in 2022.

Basically GamePass will be seeing another price hike very soon.

Re: Xbox Leaker Believes Gears Collection Is Real, Will Launch On PS5 Day One

NattyKing

@Fiendish-Beaver Yes this exactly. People are acting like Sony will keen to release games on a small userbase which has been trained to not buy games due to GamePass.

Sony and Nintendo will keep their stores to get their 30% cut on third-party party games/DLC, keep all profits on first-party games, maintain online paywall fees, and selling accessories like the Portal. Playstation will also release a handheld soon.

Re: Xbox Leaker Believes Gears Collection Is Real, Will Launch On PS5 Day One

NattyKing

@Cakefish This move is purely about the Xbox hardware failing.

They will make more money than they were previously, but is that really saying much? GamePass has been a money sink, and they have a small userbase, and they are still losing money on Series X production because they haven't figured out how to reduce costs.

Sony and Nintendo will make more in terms of profit by controlling their own ecosystems.

@SMJ The league forced Sony to make MLB multiplatform, nothing to do with testing the water. Very likely the same applies to Lego Horizon. Meanwhile the big hitters remain console exclusive.

Cloud streaming remains far off. Geforce Experience is the best, but it still has issues with queue times, and it's expensive. Then you have problems with latency and image quality which will always exist no matter how many data centres there are. Can you imagine playing a competitive multiplayer game and enjoying it on x-Cloud? Nope me neither. I think some people just talk about cloud streaming as a way of not accepting the pivot Xbox has made.

Re: Forza Horizon 5 Officially Announced For PS5, Drifts Over In Spring 2025

NattyKing

@DaddyDuder There's no chance of them waiting one or two years before porting going forward, they're not even doing that now in many cases - Doom, Outer Worlds 2 both coming to PS5 day one. Indiana Jones coming three months after it's initial release.

You can bet Elders Scrolls 6, Fable, Perfect Dark will all come to PS5 (and maybe Switch 2) day one.

Re: Rumour: Leaker Names Two More Xbox Games Possibly Going Multiplatform In 2025

NattyKing

@Rog-X Helldivers 2, MLB, Astro Bot, Spiderman 2, Lego Horizon, Until Dawn Remake...not to mention all the other console exclusives that have come like Rise of the Ronin, FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, FF16. Seems like this dry spell is a figment of your imagination. As is the suggest that Microsoft Gaming is suddenly going to pivot and stop being a multiplatform publisher.

Re: Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Redefining What It Means To Be An Xbox Fan'

NattyKing

@Prestige-worldwide “Game Pass as an overall part of our content and services revenue is probably 15 percent,” says Spencer. “I don't think it gets bigger than that. I think the overall revenue grows so 15 percent of a bigger number, but we don't have this future where I think 50–70 percent of our revenue comes from subscriptions.”

We don't get profit figures from Xbox because they're hidden. In terms of revenue though GamePass is just a small fraction.

Re: Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Redefining What It Means To Be An Xbox Fan'

NattyKing

We know this. It was obvious Spencer, Bond, and Stuart were lying through their teeth when talking at the "Business Update".

It's Microsoft Gaming now, they're a third-party publisher and everything will be on Playstation and Switch 2 (where possible) day one. Next gen all they will have is highly expensive niche hardware.
