@SeaDaVie I only spoke the truth. When people say PS players buy games it’s just not true the vast majority of them don’t and they just play Fortnite and COD. When only 3% of their gamers are buying their most acclaimed game last year. The notion that PS gamers are some saving grace for games sales is a fallacy. Majority of them are playing COD and Fortnite.
@SeaDaVie you are doing a great job of showing that the PlayStation base is not buying games and even ones that are very well received. It’s almost like the majority of gamers on there are doing what I said, playing COD and Fortnite.
@somnambulance I play 90% MP shooter (playing Overwatch 2 right now actually) I thought Concord was a slog to play. Didn’t enjoy the beta at all so I never gave the full game a chance because I didn’t like the betas at all.
Helldivers is a blast with friends. And quite the thrill on the higher difficulties. Gameplay is spot on, the loop is fun and engaging. And the arsenal they provide is fantastic.
@somnambulance the appeal of Helldivers is its instant fun. I have 250 hrs into the game, it’s fantastic. Concord felt like a blatant rip off of Overwatch with worse gameplay and less content.
Helldivers 2 and Deep Rock Galactic are in the same area of game style. There is clearly a market there for the games just waiting to be tapped into.
@SeaDaVie I don’t think you understand how COD sales work. It’s an annual release schedule lol the sales COD brings in dwarfs anything PS puts out. It’s literally the best selling game every year besides 1 year and that was barely edged out by Hogwarts. What’s not healthy is that ND hasn’t released a game in how long now? 7 years? Intergalactic is still another 2-3 years out and Sony is supposed to rely on that to hopefully sell north of 10million copies lol there is a reason Sony has been chasing GaaS money.
God of War Ragnarok has stagnated as far as sales go, it’s already been stated it’s not expected to come close to the first games numbers hence why it was ported faster. I don’t think you understand how stagnated the market is becoming. Brace yourself for Yoteis sales after the initial burst. AstroBot, Sonys GOTY, has sold a measly 2.5 million. Out of 75 million people. That’s sad.
@SeaDaVie @SeaDaVie and God of War Ragnarok saw a 10 million sales reduction on Playstarion. Helldivers 2 sold more on PC than on PlayStation. Majority of PlayStation games, besides God of War and ND games have super poor adoption rates. Hell over 60% of Sonys revenue is from 3rd party MTs. People are moving more towards PC, even Xbox is leaving the traditional console behind. It’s dying while the growth is over on PC and mobile. Sony is making the right steps by making their software more accessible but they are definitely being forced to by the current market. Xbox saw the writing on the wall years ago, they lost the console war but they also saw the stagnation of the market. Next gen will be interesting to see if Sony sticks to their current model while Xbox abandons the traditional console market.
@NishimuraX I just gave you the numbers that were reported. It’s not because I say it’s true it’s because it is true. More people played Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox than people played God of War Ragnarok on PS5.
@NishimuraX the numbers back it up the adoption rate of PlayStation games is low it’s why they are now coming out to PC faster and now you are seeing Xbox. The adoption rate for a game like AstroBot on PS was embarrassing. Even their highest adoption rate is in the 20% meaning 70-90% of PS gamers are not buying PS games. Nintendo games have a very high adoption rate because that’s why most people buy the Nintendo console. Most people on PS are playing Fortnite and COD.
@NishimuraX can’t release a game in 10 years. Microsoft was just throwing money into a fire with that studio. If they can’t get the job done than see ya. What makes devs more special than the rest of us? You don’t do your job you get let go. Just a fact of life for everybody.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate it is also worth noting that Crystal Dynamics was reportedly in developmental hell with the new Tomb Raider as well so they are probably not the best example to use here. They could acquire a new studio but I don’t think they need to. They have plenty and are now 3 publishers under one umbrella.
You do know games are canceled all the time right? We just don’t hear about it unless it leaks out to the public. A good example of this is all the Sony games that recently got canceled. It sucks but it’s not as uncommon as you are making it sound.
You say they are not focusing on new games or IP but what would Clockwork Revolution be? Keeper? South of Midnight? Avowed? Grounded? Towerborne? Contraband? OD? Project Mara? They should be focused on their larger IP, but also they have studios that will continue to create new IP. Again I don’t know why you are so fixated on if those games are Single player or multiplayer. And again they have over 40 games in development right now. I don’t think there are any other publishers that can say they have that many projects in development. Also keep in mind the smaller studios they bought like Obsidian, Undead Labs, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Compulsion all doubled in size since being acquired. Some studios, like Playground Games even got second teams.
@Phil-Spencer-Gate Crystal Dynamics is owned by Embracer last I heard. They should be focused on the IP that people want, while allowing studios that can release quality titles creating new IPs. If a game is single player or multiplayer, both are needed.
There hasn’t been any reduction in first party games, all three of those games have never been on a release slate, they have just been taking up resources.
As for outsourcing, Xbox still and always has done this with very mixed results. From what Booty said they still have over 40 games in development. They need to focus on the studios that can actually release products and cut the teams that are just sucking up resources. I don’t understand why people are being so dramatic about any of this, we lost nothing and if anything this may speed up progress on projects more worthy.
Perfect Dark, Everwild and that MMO have been in developmental hell for 7 years. Why care if they got canned, if the games are not coming together scratch em and put your focus on games that are actually going to release. As for The Intiative, again don’t care. They couldn’t produce a single game in their near decade of existence? I don’t get how people see game development from any other job, your employer wants you to create a quality project. If you can’t deliver the project at all you lose your job, if you can’t put forth a quality effort, don’t be shocked if you get let go.
I am pretty happy with their lineup. Grounded 2 and The Outer Worlds 2 alone are big releases for me. I put so many hrs into the first Grounded with my wife. And I love FPS/RPG hybrids. Both huge wins!
The Outer Worlds 2 is tracking to be my GOTY. I loved the first one and with them saying this one is going to be bigger and better gunplay. Very excited.
I played for a couple hrs last night with a buddy. It’s all right. Killing Floor 3 and Borderlands 4 are the two I am really hoping nail the co-op shooter.
@TheGameThrifter they have been having a killer year this year as well. And we still got Grounded 2, Outer Worlds 2, Black Ops and Ninja Gaiden 4 to go. Not to mention all the third party they have lined up for Gamepass. Keep that momentum going!
Maybe. I have the Switch 2 on preorder right now, if I were to get this it would be around Christmas time and if the pricing is truly competitive but with rising costs on everything I am doubtful of that.
@CallMeDuraSouka well there are people that buy a game and play it for a little while and than just leave it. Should they be lumped in with the sales of people that dumped hrs in? Both paid the same, just as you and I paid the same for Gamepass.
As for attachment rates some games don’t have good attachment rates on GP. Some have ok, good, great or amazing. If Doom has a high attachment rate that is great news.
@CallMeDuraSouka but they also include me who 100% the game on Gamepass and paid for the upgrade pack for the DLCs. So there are a lot of metrics going on. Who paid for the game? Who paid for Gamepass and played it? How long? Who got the upgrade pack? Who got the premium edition? The collectors edition?
But ultimately, who cares? They seem to be happy with how the game is performing and that is what matters
Gears E-Day, Fable, Clockwork Revolution, Perfect Dark, Blade, Contraband, State of Decay 3, Everwild all next 2 years? Also due for some Halo news! Next Halo game teaser using UE5 would be 🔥
Love it! My GOTY so far, I love shooters and I just wrapped up my Nightmare run on this going back for a couple things I missed for the 100% and than wait for the DLCs! Fantastic game
@LogicStrikesAgain I can not wait for Saros! Returnal is such an amazing game. I’m playing The Midnight Walk right now, game is beautiful. I love dark story games like this. Should have it finished up in time for Doom Dark Ages next week. It’s been a great beginning of the year.
@Kaloudz Arc Raiders does that as well. But is much easier to avoid players if you are careful. You can always matchmake for a group on Arc Raiders as well for some extra help. Years of Dark Zone and Sea of Thieves have conditioned me on being use to losing loot to other players haha
@Kaloudz I’ve put a few hrs in on the test and it’s pretty great. It’s a third person extraction shooter and even has some raids. It’s difficult and punishing. I love it, I play with two buddies of mine and we were all big into Divisions Dark Zone. It’s a good time.
