We're getting closer and closer to the release of The Outer Worlds 2 this October, and speaking to The Guardian as part of a new interview, Obsidian has revealed how Halo Studios helped with this highly-anticipated sequel.
In the interview, game director Brandon Adler explained that after The Outer Worlds 1 came out, the team went and did a "full breakdown" on Destiny because they felt the gunplay needed improvement, and then talked to the Halo Studios team about to implement effective gunplay as well.
“We also talked to the Halo folks … They gave us a huge list of stuff and said, ‘You guys should target this … you should add that to your weapon configurations.’”
The result, according to The Guardian's hands-on preview, is that weapons are more enjoyable to wield in The Outer Worlds 2, mentioning how they "relished each encounter" rather than avoiding large-scale combat like in the original.
Brandon also says that each weapon "feels very different" and has a unique purpose to it, insisting that the idea was never to just make small changes - and clearly the Halo team has had a notable influence on that.
We don't know about you, but we always love hearing these stories on how Xbox studios have collaborated with each other to make their games better, and long may it continue! The Outer Worlds 2 launches October 29, 2025.
