@Royalblues the chip shortage will definitely play a part in how many consoles Microsoft is able to move over there. But if these sales figures continue to trend upward like they’ve been doing in recent weeks, the prospects of more Japanese content gracing Xbox will surely continue.
It seems as if Microsoft has won the favor back with its Japanese fan base the 360 help cultivate. It’s had it’s work cut out for it after the disastrous Xbox One generation but the tide appears to be turning.
@K1LLEGAL I regret them not buying Mistwalker so much! Their last JRPG intended for Xbox 360, “Cry On” was sadly cancelled and thus the end of a very brief relationship.
@K1LLEGAL if they can continue this run of budding success, add projects from Kojima and Tango Gameworks, then hopefully more Japanese exclusives will follow.
I read on another site that Microsoft moved over 12,000 consoles last week in Japan. Pretty impressive despite console shortages and no real Japanese exclusives as of yet.
I think some of y’all need to face facts. The market for some of these Japanese games that Xbox gets passed up for is just not there. The sales numbers prove this. Phil and company can do everything in their power to entice Japanese flavor over, but if the people don’t support those efforts, what do you expect? Japan will take their games to an audience that will buy them.
Gungrave Gore No More Heroes 3 AI: The Nirvana Initiative Fallen Legion: Revenants Hatsuna Mika Paint Soul Hackers 2 Persona 5 Royal Digimon: Survive Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Xbox is getting solid Japanese support outside of Final Fantasy. And personally I’m fine with that. As long is it continues, I say let Sony keep it.
I was blown away by this announcement. Always wanted to play these games and now I can. This was a good moment for Xbox fans and hopefully we’ll see this become a more consistent occurrence in regards to getting high profile Japanese RPGS.
I liked the show. There was some positives to come out of it for sure. The rebuilding of Japanese relations is continuing with the Persona announcements and Koei Tecmo releasing a new ip for Gamepass day one! Xbox one generation ruined a lot of hard work done during the 360 generation, so it’s still a work in progress but one that is working. We will see what the other studios are working on in due time, but in the mean time, slowly but surely, Xbox is bringing back the magic that made 360 so amazing.
@Jslade you do know all the Gears games are available on Gamepass right? And Gears 6 will probably release day one on Gamepass since it’s a first party game.
Honestly I couldn’t care less. Developers need to let go of past glory and focus on new projects. All these remasters/remakes are taking away time and resources that could be better spent on fresh new ideas and experiences.
@Chaudy ah ok. I appreciate it. I just kinda assumed the rumors of him working with Microsoft were false or the deal had broken off entirely since here lately it’s been Death Stranding 2 getting the rounds on the internet and on the Xbox side of things, it’s been real quiet.
Not sure how Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo fit in here since they’re clearly not exclusive. I would think Forza Motorsport is one and could be close to releasing this year or early next, they could also be referring to the rumored Gears collection, and maybe Avowed or Hellblade 2 is part of the 5. So many possibilities.
Let’s just hope Xbox has something good to show gameplay wise. I would love to see Avowed get a release this year or early next. I need some elder scrolls fix!
The rush of going out to my mailbox anticipating a new issue and actually seeing it was everything! The news of finding out what amazing new demos were going to be playable, the smell of a new magazine in your hands was an experience I wish that never left us. For fans like me who grew up before the digital age, this new age where practically anything can be done online is a hard thing to accept.
I’m going to say this is due to the obvious stock shortages that have been plaguing the industry. But, it’s still impressive that Microsoft is moving consoles in the numbers it’s been moving with the Series consoles over in Japan, in an region that has struggled to gain any traction since it’s inception. Whether or not this will translate to more Japanese games being brought over remains to be seen, but the dark days of double digit consoles being sold week to week appears to be over for now lol.
That’s awesome, now about fixing the movies and tv app where the genres don’t appear anymore or how some anime series are listed but won’t allow you to purchase.
Another year, another Atlus survey. Why can’t you just be like other publishers and put the games on it without asking questions. It’s either you do or you don’t, quit getting people’s hopes up.
Lot of people in here aren’t in agreement with what he said, but I believe it’s harsh criticism that is needed at this point to wake up Microsoft and Phil Spencer about the current state of its unreleased games and the turmoil that seems to be going on within its studios. Look, I don’t care who’s to blame within Microsoft, I just know it’s more that one person and the fact that this has been going on longer than we care to acknowledge is troubling. I actually like Phil, but Jaffe is right, he’s not the right man in charge to get something done on the managerial side and speak up when the situation warrants.
It’s embarrassing to have all these studios in your back pocket and not have anything to show for it.
Meanwhile the competition is doing more with far less assets at their disposal to keep their fans happy. And as for us Xbox users, what are we left with? We’ll the truth is, not much. Exclusives help separate your console of choice over the other guy’s and are vital for brand recognition. Sony and Nintendo have that thanks to their amazing first party output. Microsoft has only really had Halo and Forza over the years and that formula isn’t working like it once did. Gamers are tired of the same old same old. And let’s be real, this just didn’t start with the Bethesda deal, Xbox couldn’t even manage a consistent release schedule back in the Xbox One days when there wasn’t any Covid so this whole “I’ll let them off the hook” take going around, I’m not buying. The leadership at Xbox has got to be called into question at some point in regards to studio management and why we’re not seeing games that have probably had 4 years or more in development by now.
This is all positive, but the icing on the cake will be hard convincing gameplay coming out of their event in June. All of this momentum will be lost if people don’t see any signs that more games are in the near future. We’re tired of cgi and rumored projects in the works. We want proof and we deserve that for being loyal Xbox supporters.
I want to see most of the games everyone else had already said along with some new game announcements. How about a reveal trailer for Dragon Quest XV, new Pragmata trailer, a new Mistwalker JRPG and some gameplay of the new Sonic game!
I’m eagerly awaiting a huge Japanese announcement of some sort either by acquisition or a secured exclusive or two. And maybe they finally show or tell us something about the rumored Kojima game.
@Rural-Bandit totally agree on everything you said. I’ll add another thing to this topic. You mentioned the artwork not being on the inside of the case and the case itself feeling too cheap which it is, but for me, the exclusion of the physical manual and opting to go with a digital one is one of my biggest pet peeve’s that they’ve done to physical games.
@Solidchief couldn’t agree more. Part of the fun buying games was the artwork and how nicely the collection looked on your bookshelf. I have way more physical copies of older games than I do of current ones.
I actually like it. Something different from the regular boring ones we always get. I’m not a fan of the short thin cases Microsoft introduced during the Xbox One era. I miss the big Xbox 360 cases games came in. It felt like it was higher quality and the box art extended to the spine unlike most games now.
Very good numbers so far. It’s a great system in desperate need of some real good exclusives though. They’ve been slow on arriving I just hope Microsoft can keep the momentum going until the games finally do arrive. It’s looking pretty barren this year for Xbox software with delays hitting for some and no firm release dates on others. I’m kinda surprised Microsoft hasn’t signed on any timed exclusives to bridge the gap until their first party games start dropping. Xbox 360 had a lot and I think it helped pry PlayStation 2 owners over to Xbox.
They really need a concentrated effort for Japan. They had one going in the early days of the 360. I think they’re encouraged by the sales numbers over there and want to capitalize on it which can only be considered a good thing.
I’ve got to think it’s a studio who solely develops for PlayStation, so with that in mind, my guess would be Square Enix. Sony has been tossing around a lot of money as of late their way by keeping Final Fantasy off Xbox after all.
And don’t forget about Everwild from Rare. It’s looking like all those acquisitions aren’t paying off for Xbox as of yet. And Playground games involvement with Fable isn’t going as planned since a predominately racing studio has no idea how to craft an rpg.
The announcements blew us away, but sadly the results have been less than ideal. If Microsoft ever hopes to one day succeed Sony, it needs to start with the games it’s first party makes. And it doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon.
Let’s see what the numbers look like when these two systems are both readily available when you walk into a store. I can’t take these sales figures seriously until the asterisk is removed from the equation.
@UltimateOtaku91 totally agree! I would be for first person games in general to decline as we go forward. Xbox has been saturated with them since the beginning!
This is great news! As a PlayStation gamer before Xbox came along, I hope they flood the service with ps1 and ps2 games with enhanced visuals and hopefully make their first party games available for as long as you’re a subscriber like GamePass does with Xbox games. I want to play Clock Tower 3 and Haunting Ground in HD!
I really hope they can return to it one day. I loved it when I first saw it. I was devastated when I learned of the news that it been cancelled. I remember the sites going into E3 that year saying Microsoft had secured a Japanese exclusive from a big talented studio. Shame it didn’t pan out
@norwichred it’s available on the Xbox marketplace. All of the games they announced today for BC is not in the backward compatible category yet, you have to search for them individually. I’m playing it right now!
While I’m sad it’s over, I’m excited for the games that made it. I just bought Otogi1-2 off eBay for a hefty price but totally worth it to celebrate Xbox’s past while still enjoying the present. I have Ridge Racer 5, Binary Domain and Nier still sealed and now that those have been added, I won’t have to unseal them. The games I will miss making the jump will be Resonance of Fate, Eternal Sonata, Magna Carta 2, Ninja Blade, Tenchu Z and Ace Combat 6. Oh well at least I still have my Halo 4 edition Xbox 360 to play those on so all is not lost. Overall today was a good day to be an Xbox owner!
Ngl. I got a little emotional when the old clips started rolling. It was like a trip down memory lane for me. I’ve been team Xbox from the start through the highs and the lows and am just proud of where they are and where they’re headed. Here’s to another 20 years of Xbox gaming! 💚💚
Wow! I am shocked by the Scarlet Nexus and AI: the Somnium Files! Already having them downloaded and will be firing them up soon! Thank you Xbox!!! 💚💚💚
