Its because MS are great at putting out 8/10 games but struggle putting out 9's and 10's. Starfield is a great game and Hi-Fi Rush is good fun they aren't at the level of Baldur's Gate 3, TotK, Alan Wake 2 and Mario Wonder. I will say while Spidey 2 is a great game its certainly not GOTY level, solid 8.5 but no way should it be up there with Baldur's Gate 3 or Alan Wake 2.

Shocked Gears 3 didn't get more love though in the day as that's peak Gears and one of the best 3rd person shooters ever made.

The game looks pretty lovely on PS5, i like the Devs focused on detail and immersion rather then trying to be ultra realistic.

Is Armoured Core 6 up for best action game? Is yes then that's my pick.

I mean can you count Diablo 4? MS never made or funded it and was released before they bought Activision.

@Ralizah I still love Starfield its just now that the Honeymoon period is over and i've seen most of what it offers i feel the faults are just more obvious. I agree there's definitely some weird hate for the game, it seems no matter where you turn everyone acts like its the worst. Maybe its not the 10/10 we wished for but 8/10 is still really good.

@Banjo- I addressed you once you replied and then i replied and then you replied with me now replying, welcome to the concept of convensations or in this case a debate. I challenge the notion of why you think Hi-Fi is GOTY worthy when a game like Baldur's Gate 3 exists, its like thinking Barbie is Best Picture worthy when films like Killers of the Flower Moon exist. As for Spider-Man 2 i don't think its GOTY worthy i think its a solid 8.5 and nothing else though i find it interesting you're getting antsy that Zelda and Spider-Man 2 are nominated while the 1st party Xbox games aren't on this Xbox centric site.

@Kienda I love Starfield but its not unique or daring, its basically Fallout 3 in space what is great but as a space game No Man's Sky, Elite, Everspace 2 and Star Citizen all do or do most of the things that Starfield does space wise but far better. Starfield's strengths are the typical Bethesda stuff you would get in ES or Fallout but the moment you start exploring those empty bland worlds or do anything in space its faults are pretty glaring.

@Banjo- When i think of 10/10's of the year i think of Baldur's Gate 3, Zelda, Mario Wonder and Alan Wake 2 not a fairly decent if nothing special action game that has been forgotten by most. It was never getting nominations because again its nothing special and if not for a shadow drop and Gamepass i think the reception to it would be a tad colder.

Funny you're throwing the opinion card at me though considering your comments on Zelda. You think its overrated cool but the vast majority clearly don't just like you imply my thoughts on Hi-Fi Rush aren't the majority.

@InterceptorAlpha This game isn't charging $70 and features endless MTX and battle passes. Ark will be more broken and not look anywhere near as good as that trailer but its cheaper and not monetized to hell and back.

This game is going to be such a mess.

Already own it on PS5 so nope from me but i'm happy Xbox owners will be playing it soon as its incredible.

360 era is peak Xbox, while it got pretty meh towards the end the years of 2006-2010 were amazing.

@AtlanteanMan Despite my thoughts on Halo nowadays i heavily disagree that "gaming isn't fun anymore". This year is straight up one of the greatest years in gaming, its crazy how much i've spent on gaming this year and how little of it i've got round to playing due to the sheer volume of quality releases put out. AAA, AA, indies, console exclusives and so on there's been something for everyone and there's at least 3 or 4 GOTY contenders.

@ParsnipHero A mobile spin off. Mario on console has never been treated the way MS/343 has treated Halo the freaking mascot of Xbox and the reason Xbox succeeded, Infinite should be the crown jewel of the Series consoles something that is on par with the Switch's Mario and Zelda games or the PS4/5's God of War games. Its disgusting how badly treated Halo has been since Bungie left, freaking Forza gets more attention from MS then Halo does.

Imagine if Nintendo treated Mario and Zelda the way MS/343 treat Halo.

@Rioichi Actually Nintendo out of the big 3 are the easiest to please as they let almost anything on the Switch and 9/10 completely uncut as well.

As a big Forza fan and someone who prefers it to well any other racing series i feel the only thing this entry has over GT7 is the visuals. I feel GT7 is just a much better and more complete game then the latest Forza and i hate saying that.

@jedinite Alan Wake 2 can do 60fps on PS5 and SX and not only that Starfield while pretty at times is hardly groundbreaking while Alan Wake 2 has some of the best visuals in gaming to the point its a miracle a 60fps mode is even possible on PS5 and SX.

When Spider-Man 2 can do 60fps with the best RT in console gaming, have zero loading with a completely seamless world with insanely fast transversal speeds it really drives home the fact the biggest Xbox game in years is locked at 30fps with no RT in a world cut up by loading screens on the most powerful console ever. I love Starfield but let's not defend the 30fps and technical shortcomings when games like Spidey 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 are pushing gaming forward and released in the same timespan as Starfield.

@BrilliantBill The first Horizon game was getting competition ads to win a PS4 on Channel 4 back in 2017. Fact is Sony market their big games hard, you know when a new big Sony is out because you see marketing almost everywhere just like you do Mario, Pokemon, Zelda and such with Nintendo. MS don't do this not even with Halo, their new games aren't events they're just new games like any other.

@BrilliantBill and God of War last year got the same level of hype Spidey 2 has to the point PS5's were being sold on GoW's name. The biggest 1st party games of the year should be events and giving the red carpet and not be upstaged by DLC for a 3 year old game. The new Forza just dropped that should be massive yet i felt the new The Crew game got more marketing.

@OldGamer999 Look at the marketing, didn't see a single Starfield trailer on TV yet you can't move for Mario and especially Spidey 2 trailers on there to the point even my Mum is aware there's a new Spider-Man game due to the ads being constant. End of the day nothing about Starfield screams Xbox, its a great game imo and up there with my favourites of the year but it is just another Bethesda game while Spidey 2 feels like a Sony game and a game i could only play on Playstation. Sony and Nintendo treat the bigger 1st party games like the biggest thing in gaming while MS seem to treat 1st party games like anything else.

@ChromeMud Just checkout the reviews, public reception and sales, hell check out the user reviews on the games on your Xbox and you will the games aren't getting the same love that Mario, Zelda and Spider-Man 2 are getting. Redfall is ass, Forza is massive disappointment, Hi-Fi Rush while good is largely forgotten leaving Starfield as the only big win for Xbox and even then it doesn't have that 1st party gloss that Sony and Nintendo games have.

@TakeItEasy Of course not but Phil didn't want a 10 year deal he wanted a 3 year deal. Sony dragged it out to the very end to get the best deal they could.

People can hate Jim Ryan or Phil Spencer all they want but they have had more success and earned more money in the past 3-5 years then all of us will combined on here in are entire lives. Maybe instead of acting like you know better then Sony/Jim or MS/Phil you should remember where you are in life right now compared to them. This sites community really does like to think it knows corp business better then the actual billionaire businessman and CEO's. @TakeItEasy MS offered a 3 year deal, Jim even spoke out publicly about that. The 10 year deal came after as MS's hand was forced.

Yeah Jim's retired good but i expect after a very stressful and busy year and a bit he's grown tired and weary especially when his job kept him from his family and him flying around the world constantly every month, the guy's nearly 60 no wonder he quit.

@Banjo- Sony and Jim got want they wanted a far better COD deal then Phil was previously offering before he extended it to 10 years. Sony knew it was a losing battle so they just dragged it on and on until MS were forced to make a deal that suits them. I'm shocked no one saw this common business war tactic, Jim has been in this game long enough to know it could never be stopped but he can sure as hell make it difficult and have MS make deals they never wanted to make.

Of course Pete cares about sales because bad sales impacts his studios. Also the game hasn't sold 10M as far as i know it just had 10M players but that 10M is a BS number because MS do what Netflix does and counts players who only spent like 10mins only with it. We don't actually know well its sold but the fact it left the top 10 pretty quick is not a good sign. Gamepass is killing sales.

@Moonglow I'm willing to bet Starfield would have remained in the top 10 charts for at a least a couple of months if it wasn't on GP and was on PS5 as well and Pete knows this, yeah he's retiring from all this for family but i bet the way MS has treated Bethesda was the tipping point.

I love Starfield but the fact its pretty much forgotten already shows how the Netflix module is damaging to well everything.

@Moonglow Yeah they do own D4 and MW3 now but let's not pretend they have any impact on those games.

Can't happen because of licensing issues but i would love to see remasters of the various Marvel games they made. Being more realistic how about Pro Skater 3/4 and Underground 1/2 remakes please Phil?

@Jimboss Scorn just hit PS5 a year after Xbox because it was timed. To be clear i don't have issue with timed deals but i do take issue with fanboys acting like their favourite corporation plastic box maker doesn't do them.

@cburg MS also done all those things during the Xbox and 360 eras and were constantly getting 3rd party exclusives or timed deals, hell MS even tried to nap Nintendo.

@Moonglow Quake 2 and Minecraft Legends are on PS and Switch and MS never funded or made Diablo 4 and MW3, in fact MS didn't even release D4 so that's a massive stretch. MS have had a decent year but its still amazing how little they put out despite owning so much.

Foolish to expect MW3 but i wouldn't be shocked if MW2 is on it within the next few months.

@Dan1283 I'm playing on SS as well and i've put around 80 or 90 hours into it so far and i've had just 2 crashes. Have you thought about deleting and re-downloading it? Sometimes that can help with issues like this.

@ZuneTattooGuy AC4 was crossgen i own the PS4 version. Lighting, crowds, textures, the seamless world, animations, draw distance and so on are all way ahead of AC4 or even stuff like Far Cry 4, Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Also yeah Mirage would look like a X1 game because it is an X1 game, its a Crossgen release like Valhalla so it was never going to be jump in visuals like Unity was to AC4.

Yeah not exactly a shock going by how poor it was.

@ZuneTattooGuy You think this is equal to AC4 visually? Yeah your opinion kinda looses all credibility right there.

@Spider-Kev Watching a film at 24fps is very different to playing a game at 24fps. Modern TV's actually make lower framerates feel terrible, 30fps on a 120hz screen feels far worse then 30fps on a 60hz screen released 10 years back.

@OldGamer999 Yeah i've been thinking for a while that MS may go 3rd party like Sega while keeping Xbox as an actual Gamepass machine instead of a proper console. End of the day they're never getting a bigger game then Starfield until ES6 drops in 10 years time and like you said it didn't really do anything for Xbox, sure it increased console sales for like a week but as i said as soon as CP2077 2.0 update dropped everyone stopped talking and caring about the supposed biggest release this year that isn't called Zelda, hell even Baldur's Gate 3 stole Starfield's thunder. Personally i feel Phil's on borrowed time, his legacy may look very "pro-consumer" but i don't think its done much for Xbox and the likes of Gamepass and BC while great haven't really sold Xbox in the way a big 1st party PS game sells PS4/PS5's or Zelda and Mario sell Switch's. I hope things change but Xbox's fate was ultimately set in the stone with the X1 reveal/E3, they never really recovered from that and it tainted Xbox's image beyond repair.

@OldGamer999 To be clear right away i love Starfield and its easily in my top 5 games this year. I'm amazed at how forgotten the game feels all ready, like as soon as 2.0 dropped for CP2077 all the remaining hype for SF just went and i feel it really shows how little people care for Xbox, Spider-Man 2 is coming soon and it already it feels like the most hyped game since TotK to the point i'm already seeing ads on normal bog standard TV something you rarely see for VG's that aren't Fifa or Zelda/Mario. I think between MS's utter indifference to exclusives and Gamepass making gaming feel like Netflix the hype for Starfield couldn't last beyond a week or two. End of the day like Sony or not but they make games like God of War, Horizon and Spider-Man feel like actual gaming events you must be part off, they market the hell out of them and they keep that hype rolling after, is Starfield going to sell Xbox's this Xmas? Sadly no but SM2 will be making the PS5 to console to own this Xmas. I'm not being anti-Xbox here and i wish things were more equal but i really think the current course for Xbox isn't working, if Starfield barely makes a dent what hope does anything else have?
