@Stocksy exactly the current gen consoles still don’t live up to the promises Sony and Xbox made at launch. 4k with ray tracing and 120fps. Most games nowadays are 1080 upscaled and 60fps if your super lucky.
Considering the majority of gamers are casuals who only buy a few games per year, do they really think $1000 consoles will sell well. They’re gonna kill off console gaming as people will just game on phones instead.
If its more than $600 it’ll be dead on arrival. Consoles have always been cheaper than pc’s. They may pick up pc gamers but most casual gamers aren’t gonna spend more than that.
@Shinato2024 that was the biggest let down of the game. I thought it would just be easier to off him and the crimson fleet as well, and i couldn’t. That bothered me much more than sparse maps and loading screens
I think she is definitely a hire that will follow corporate guidelines. The gaming industry is all about suits not gamers deciding the strategy and its starting the stifle creativity of devs at the moment. I don’t like the direction the industry is heading in, too many remasters / remakes and not enough modern aaa classics
Lots of remasters remakes, next gen the pool for suitable games will shrink so they’ll have to remaster the remasters. Its gonna be the slow start of stagnation in the industry if not many new games are made.
@Master_Cthulhu70 exactly lots of devs do the bare minimum for the S, for example Monster Hunter Wise is a blurry mess on the S even 1 year after launch. The reason the switch 2 version looks better is Capcom probably spent more time optimising it than the S.
@bazchillin I actually have a series S and am happy with, what I was saying is that these modern console were marketed at 4k machines with ray tracing and 2k for the S. very few games get anywhere near that nowadays and I feel that’s disingenuous at best. The ps5 launched with 8k support on the box or 4k 120hz as well, like i said disingenuous.
every time I see these most active users charts, it honestly makes me think that the gaming industry is slowly but surely dying off. Most users only play the same old games or the few big fps or sports titles on console. No wonder most studios are afraid to release groundbreaking titles and just rely on remasters and remakes.
1440p on a console that was marketed as a true 4k device 5 years into the generation is disappointing to say the least. This generation has been so lacklustre from a technical standpoint.
@Sindayl yep exactly, the quality of games optimisation will decrease as well if they’re making for multiple consoles. I think the quality of series S optimisation especially. Look at how many 3rd party games launch janky on the S compared to 1st party.
Simple solution don’t buy new consoles and just play older games, there’s not much that comes out nowadays that I’m interested in and I’ll just stream anything new that I wanna play.
Also it’ll mean that lots of devs will put more time into series s versions as opposed to some of the awful ports we’ve had as they be releasing a switch 2 version as well.
Just take a look at what the most played games are on playstation and xbox and you’ll see that its not current releases so gamepass isn’t effecting new sales that much. The average gamers probably only buys a handful of games per year so getting them to subscribe to gamepass might actually create more sales.
If this game only sold about 220,000 on steam, which has a much bigger user base. 22k on xbox isn’t probably a result of xbox fans not buying games and more likely that the game isn’t in high demand.
Making what should be a jrpg game into a full on action rpg is obviously gonna affect sales.
The switch 2 being out is great for series s owners. Many games will also go on it so devs will put more into optimising it, and this in turn will mean that the series s will get better optimised games as well.
I honestly think it’ll be mediocre at best. Bioware seem to have forgotten its the story and writing that are the most important things for RPG’s. Nowadays if it comes from a western studio I wait for reviews / feedback to come out as opposed to buying at launch.
@themightyant it’ll probably be something like just stick in the disc and it’ll play the game akin to ai developed emulation, which would be cool. Not sure how it’d work for digital games though.
@GoldenPants yep me too, i rarely buy full priced games these days, although i’m very tempted to buy Monster hunter wilds. I usually just wait until its at least half price
The real problem is RGP’s exist on their writing, its not rocket science. From what i’ve seen the writing looks terrible, even if the gameplay and graphics are good if the story sucks then fans won’t buy it.
I very well might have bought it but the scenes i’ve seen just look cringe and thats enough to put me off. I’m predominantly an rpg player so writing and story is very important to me.
If its a free game and you don’t need to spend money on it, then I see no problem with shutting down servers at any time. If the base game is full price it should be protected at least for a certain amount of time and if the servers shut down early you should get a refund.
It looks good enough for me to resub to gamepass for a month to test it out. Gone are the days were I buy games at launch as nowadays they tend to be buggy messes (cyberpunk) or shallow reincarnations of great franchises (veilguard). Either way I won’t pay full price unless I know they are actually great.
That would make good sense, they could skip ps5 launches and just do switch 2 as that will most likely dominate again. PlayStation is viewed as xbox’s main competitor whereas Nintendo is kinda separated from that.
@GuyinPA75 most games nowadays don’t release at 60fps in quality mode and thats nothing to do with the series s. Third party games are optimised for devices like the steam deck fine and that’s not a powerful as the S.
Its not the series S’s fault is just a cheap copout for devs who didn’t put enough time into optimising their games for the devices they release on. Most games nowadays require a ton of patches just to get into a state they should’ve been at launch. The industry (most likely the suits in charge) have gotten sloppy and don’t mind releasing semi-broken games.
I bought it on sale well before the next gen patch was released with the intention to not play it until it was released. Am glad I waited as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I played the witcher 3 on ps4 , really enjoyed it, but for some reason haven’t been able to muster the enthusiasm to replay it after the next gen patch was released.
@themightyant maybe, but a lot of companies are making their remasters their main focus, for example sony have announced several remasters recently (days gone, horizon zero dawn) but zero new ips/games.
@somnambulance yeah I agree that the capcom res remasters/ remakes are good and I really enjoyed 4’s remake. But its still a sad sign of the times when companies aren’t making bangers like they used too. As the industry gotten bigger so has the influences of the suits in charge.
I don’t know what everyone else thinks but I think this reliance on remasters is going to slowly kill of the gaming industries creativity. The suits who decide what gets made won’t fund the making of new ips and we’ll just be getting games with a new lick of paint on them.
@IOI most exclusives are heading to other platforms? Really? Either you’ve got a crystal ball and can see into the future or you’re completely over reacting.
@kelomaniack exactly do you remember the video about mesh shaders where John Linnamen face looked ever so sad when ge said PS5 can’t them and its gonna be a disadvantage going forward as more and more games will use them. I guess they no longer matter
I thought DF said a while back that the PS5 can’t do mesh shaders (most new games use them for better performance e.g Alan Wake 2) and this was a major disadvantage, I even remember J Linnaman’s face looking so sad when he said this, I guess they forgot about them or they no longer matter.
@Widey85 you’re exactly right Xbox can say goodbye to their dreams of increasing market share in Japan. The Japanese will always buy a Japanese product instead of a western one and closing studio their only Japanese studio is a stupid move.
While xbox is planning to stay in the console race they’ll never release mainline xbox franchises on PlayStation. They will always keep current gen games exclusive, but they could release last gen games on to playstation to boost sales of current gen games.
As an xbox fan I would be bothered if older mainline games went multi platform.
@eire-shabba I thought it played good but the pop-in is very aggressive. On internal levels its plays fine and isn’t noticeable but outside the draw distance is almost immersion breaking as the draw distance is very close for stuff like vegetation. It made me stop playing it, I would’ve preferred at 30fps option with better draw distance.
Microsoft wanna grow gamepass subs they ain’t gonna do that by going multiplat, worse case scenario is xbox games go to other systems a year or so after xbox or you can stream xbox content on other consoles.
Major gamepass sellers ain’t never gonna go on other consoles though, that would be a complete turnaround to their stated long term business goals.
@shushibda xbox is no longer just a console experience all xbox games release on pc as well as console. Also once new graphics tech gets into pc builds it’ll filter down into the console build and that means better performance for all players.
Xbox just bought Activision and all this drama is probably because xbox are considering which IP’s to put on other systems nothing more nothing less. If anybody believes that xbox will put its mainline xbox ip’s on other systems then they’re just gullible, never gonna happen.
@Fenbops yeah I agree totally, I never even finished Gears 5 I got kinda bored half way through. The open world elements weren’t particularly interesting and didn’t suit the scripted gameplay of earlier Gears games,

@Kaloudz as long as core MS franchises (gears, Halo etc) get a nice console exclusivity period ( 1 or 2 years) I couldn’t care less.
