I played the alpa - the story was interesting, but the gameplay was the worst kind of floaty, generic looter-shooter nonsense.
As for the gear system, if I wanted to engage with that sort of rubbish I'd open an Excel spreadsheet.
I might have a go when it inevitably ends up on a subscription service in November, but giving WB Games actual money for this crap only encourages them.
I've been playing Starfield over the last few days while it's been the Christmas break and it's ... alright. But I've been increasingly annoyed by:
navigation, which is a pain in the backside flicking through the various map screens
the constant loading screens when you open a door, get on the metro, transition to a new area etc.
the bugs - my least favourite being unable to switch to third-person in a firefight, as my character's head, hands, and feet disappear and I can't move.
the characters who I'm struggling to care either way about
landing on planets at just enough of a distance from a point of interest to make getting there take a minute or two
most of all, the encumberance system, which is some ***** (as all encumberance systems are).
After reading about the forthcoming update, I'm going to put it down for a while until that's released in the hope it mitigates some of the above.
How you can copy and paste a sentence like "HyperMotionV technology, which uses real-world volumetric data to deliver authentic action on the pitch" with a straight face is beyond me!
The original Marathon and Marathon 2 were superb, with great single-player modes, and genuinely exciting co-op and deathmatch modes. This looks to be everything they weren't.
It certainly was a looker and the story had its moments, but boy is the gameplay am absolutely tedious, repetitive slog. It was the One's equivalent of The Order 1886.
If there was ever a game that I knew, just from watching a trailer, was going to be insufferably and irredeemable obnoxious, it was this one. The whole thing is nails down a blackboard to me.

No, the S is a dead weight on this console generation.
